Our SWEDISH STYLE DINING ROOM MAKEOVER begins - all because of a MORA CLOCK! Happy Tuesday, In this video we're finally starting with the makeover of our dining room! It's so exciting because we've been keeping a secret: We bought an antique Mora clock last year - something we wanted to have for such a long time. The Swedish Mora clock helped us decide how we wanted our dining room to be: A colourful Swedish style room with Gustavian furniture. Not only do we love the classic English interior style but we have a huge passion for the Scandinavian style as well. So stay tuned for more! Kirsten & Joerg xx

RECIPE EIERLIKÖRKUCHEN:
Ingredients
125g flour
125g corn flour
250g icing sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
5 eggs
1 vanilla pod
250ml oil
250m Advocaat
150g dark chocolate
75g cream
a bit of cinnamon
Method
Grease a bundt pan. Mix flour, corn flour, baking powder and icing sugar. Using a whisk mix eggs, vanilla pod, oil and Advocaat. Add this mixture to the flour mixture.
Pour the mixture into your bundt pan. Bake in your preheated oven (175 degrees Celsius) for 50 to 60 minutes. Let the cake cool down. Remove from the bundt pan.
Chop the chocolate and heat up the cream with cinnamon. Remove from the heat, add the chocolate and let it melt. Cover the cake with the chocolate glaze and let it rest for 3 hours. Enjoy!

Looks like your chocolate seized …just add boiling water a little at a time and it will smooth out. Love the clock, the paint and you both!! Can’t wait to see the finished room!
I searched to see if someone had suggested the hot water solution for the chocolate. 😊 I recently made some icing, read that instruction for chocolate. Love the Scandinavian colors.
only add the choc to the hot cream off the stove :)
And don't overheat the cream. I have found it's safest to heat the cream & chocolate up together and just heat it to a temperature where the chocolate starts to melt. Do not boil the cream.
I have had success making this type glaze using a double boiler or simply a bowl sitting over a pan of simmering water not quite touching the bottom of the bowl. Place your ingredients into the top bowl, stirring until it has melted and is incorporated.

The clock is wonderful! I suggest a mirror with a wood frame, closer to the mantel .. the wood tones are so lovely.

@À Strand Each dish they make in their videos has the recipe written in the description box. They always mention if a dish is not gluten-free, but the majority of dishes are gluten-free.
A little hot water before spreading the icing (stirring well and it will smooth out) and then let it cool a couple of minutes. I am glad it tasted good. Love your Mora Clock. Also how your dining room is coming along. God you both.
Dear Kirsten, I did laugh when you said you don’t like alcohol but you like the taste of Advocaat, because my German Mother was just the same! Thanks for reminding me of my lovely Mum! By the way that cake looks delicious, don’t worry about the topping , my mouth is watering!

The Mora Clock is wonderful! Being Swedish, of course I cheer for your chosen theme. I would never have dreamt of such a bright yellow wall colour, but it will definitely make for a sunny, cheerful dining experience. ☀️ I love the curtain material. It seems to work well with the tiles. We have similar chairs, and I think it's going to look lovely once it all comes together.
If I remember correctly I believe that the French painter, Monte painted his dinning room a glorious yellow too. Can’t wait for the finished room. Love to you both.

Stunning choices! One thing that works for me when painting, is a light sanding of the walls before applying the new paint. And the clock! What a treasure!

WOW, What a clock! The decorative painting looks very much like the Pennsylvania Dutch designs we often see on antique furniture here in the states. When I saw Joerg open the can of Yellow paint I said, " Oh, that's much too bright!"....then I looked up at my ceiling and my kitchen cupboards...Mustard Yellow! So, never mind......🙂

I own a little cake business…cute cake…the glaze….it’s just been over heated. Next time warm the cream by itself, take off the stove and then put the chocolate in and just let it sit for a few mins and then stir. It’ll be glossy and beautiful.xx

Beautiful! I love the paint colour! It will bring out and highlight the details in the clock. I can just picture it! Combined with the lighter furniture and the upholstered chairs, the dining room will be exquisite!!! What are you going to choose for the ceiling light fixture? I've actually made the non-gluten-free version of that cake. If you melt some coconut oil with the chocolate, the glaze turns out perfectly. Thanks Kirsten and Joerg! Thanks so much! Luckily there are light fixtures in the room so we're not under pressure and can look for something antique. Absolutely, that should work perfectly, we usually use coconut for a chocolate glaze. I wanted to stick to the recipe only to find out it wasn't ideal.

The antique clock is beautiful, I can see why you both fall in love with it. The style of chair from your attic room goes so well with not only the clock, but also the yellow wall colour. I live in Florida USA and painted the exterior of my home a very similar color, maybe a bit lighter. It seemed very bright at first since it had been a dream color. Now it looks just fine and I love it. You are on your way to a lovely new room to enjoy. Have fun picking out the fabrics and window treatment!

When I do a chocolate ganache glaze, I typically heat up the cream, but then take it off the heat and let the chocolate melt into. It makes it smooth and shiny. How odd the recipe had you cook the chocolate. Maybe it was a different type of glaze than I’ve done. Looked yummy anyway.

How excited I was when I saw that marvelous color. My country home in NS Canada had that color in the upstairs hallway with its wall of painted cupboards. I love it! And that clock; Swoon!
The chocolate glaze just needed a double-boiler, so the chocolate will melt more slowly. You need to temper it slowly with the cream as well, adding a little bit at a time. If it overheats, the glaze will "curdle" like that.

It was such a nice surprise to see that you 'adopted' a Mora clock. They are often called a Swedish grandmother's clock. I've never found one where I live but did know a lady who brought one back from Sweden years ago. You have very good taste and it will be nice to see how things look when everything is in place. You bought the Swedish clock from that antiques barn!! The video that I only watched the other day. All those clocks were such a lovely discovery... I'm a big fan of Gustavian furniture and -my addiction is fed- I'm actively encouraged by my Swedish-but-Honorary-Brit pal Bella - who not only has immaculate taste, but has a second career as in interiors consultant. I know like me, she'd approve of that stunning Scandinavian Stripe fabric. I _love_ those vivid colours of Rosi de Ruig's home. And the sun yellow is a fabulous idea for your dining room - I'm so pleased you're going for something vibrant. I painted the exterior of my old Victorian terrace in a lovely warm yellow and it really looked great on an overcast day. 💛 FYI - your chocolate has just gone a bit granular through overheating - a little too long or too hot. Chocolate is a bit of a delicate flower so I only tend to heat it in a _bain-marie_ - a bowl over a saucepan of water, giving you indirect heat - rather than directly in the saucepan itself. You can control the heat much easier without getting hotspots then. I don't have a microwave, but I know chocolate also melts well in short microwave bursts. I bet you barely noticed it when you tucked in, though... 😋 Looking forward to more Dining Room shenanigans! 🤗💛

The Mora clock is very special purchase . It will be such fun doing the dining room over and making it the way you both want it and will get many years of enjoyment when eating there. This mix of material with the chair will be very nice. Will enjoy watching you while we journey thought these new decorations and setting up of the dining room. I know you will be doing fabulous job. Love the Scandavian Style & that yellow! Will be interested to see how it turns out as I have a long Living Room / Dining Room in the centre of the house that needs painting. The roof leaked & paint peeling on the ceiling & one wall. The roof has been replaced so no more leaks. The chocolate cake with Advocaat looks delicious. Really love the chairs too.

Very excited to see how your Swedish design project comes out! The clock is beautiful, and I think the yellow will look great; very warm and inviting. We painted our kitchen in a very similar shade around 2016 and we still love it.
I'm in love with the dining room design ideas and that color yellow will give you the cheery sunshine feelings every minute of the day. Please consider a design board to put together your paint colors, fabric choices, photos of window treatments, lighting, etc. You could use the foam board which is firmer than poster board but you could see everything together in one place and add and delete as you move through the processes. Photos can come from magazines or online Pinterest examples. It's something we could see your vision applied before it happens and as it changes possibly. I'm so excited for you both in this new endeavor.
I had this color in my dining room too for 15 years… loved it & I still do. The time came for a refresh so we went for a rich deep green- but I will always love your rich bold unapologetic yellow. Your room will be spectacular!

Oh goody !!! It's not the kitchen makeover I've been holding my breath to see, but this is good too. I love the clock, especially the old painting on it.
