    • That joke about ‘Once you Jim-in, never Jim-out!’ is so funny. I'm super new to BTS so I haven't heard it until now. Might I ask why the purple hearts? I see it a lot on some BTS things but I don't know what it means (if it means anything lol maybe fans just like purple). Anyways you're right Jimin is awesome! I think RM is my fave so far but Jimin is a close 2nd. They're all wonderful though.

  • I also have a masters in clinical psychology so it’s nice to “meet” another person in the field. Their album Map of the Soul is based on Carl Jungian psychology. Welcome to the beautiful world of BTS…..The Bangtan boys are absolutely amazing people. They’re smart, funny, humble, compassionate, and incredibly musically gifted and they, of course, dance. They consider each other as family and live together much of the time. It’s wonderful to watch documentaries about them, but the best way to get to know them is by watching their variety show, Run BTS. Watching their show has helped through a very difficult year of losing my beloved father and going through a divorce. I guarantee that you will fall in love with this group.

  • Actually, if there's one corporation I personally don't mind, it's BTS' company. When BTS started, the company was really small and actually almost went bancrupt. BTS sort of built it up. The founder of the company and BTS' boss also genuinelly loves music and the whole idea behind BTS was to bring someone to the scene who would share their real stories and feelings through their music. So BTS were also all heavily encouraged to write their own songs and lyrics, which they do pretty often. The video you saw in your recommended The Most Beautiful Life Goes On is a pretty good sneak peek into their history and into why they're as big as they are. Also, since you're a mental health professional, BTS are probably gonna be really good to explore for you. They have so many songs focused on mental health and personal development and I'm really curious about what you'd have to say about them. There are too many songs that have this element, but just to start with some of the ones that have music videos: - Black Swan - Fake Love - Spring Day - Life Goes On Each of those songs focus on a very different topic, which is why I picked them. Each of them is also from a different era. Thank you for this reaction. I hope I'll be seeing more. I'm definitely subscribing :)

    • @@Psynergic “Magic Shop” is a track that surrounds a concept about how if fans look inside their hearts, they will find a magic shop where they can exchange their fears for happiness and find the love all of the members have for them. The song is inspired by James Doty’s autobiography Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart and its concept of opening up one’s heart and loving oneself and others. During the BTS press conference on May 24, 2018, Jungkook described the track as a song that could be comforting for ARMYs-whenever they felt tired, sad, or frustrated they could just have to open the door in their heart to the magic shop and there they would find the seven members of BTS waiting for them. kzhead.info/sun/qNh6o5ajooV5gmw/bejne.html BTS Magic Shop - LIVE with Eng Subs

The one playing the organ in that song is Suga (who you said was cute in DNA); and if you are interested in looking at their songs from a mental health perspective I would recommend his solo songs (performed under the name Agust D), specifically "The Last". • Holy shit! You are not prepared for this rabbit hole ^^ I just know you are going to love the boys, their mindset and their lyrics in their songs are incredible, especially in the mental health and psychology... From Hermann Hesse to Carl Jungs map of the soul... Very excited for your Journey :D Oh and you were talking about the company... usually i agree with you, but BTS and Bighit are an anomoly in the industry. If you look closely in the old intro to their songs it says: "Bighit, Music & Artist for Healing". You'll find that this statement accompanies BTS through their whole career. I'd love to see your reaction to songs like "Black swan", "fake love", "blue and grey" or "life goes on" and some of the fan made introduction videos and documentaries! Youll get to know them and their stories :) ooookay this comment was way too long, I'm just very excited! Thanks for reacting!!

  • Blood Sweat & Tears mv is tied to the theme of the temptation (26:01 the signboard behind them sais Temptation), but that's not all the meaning, it's not just the metaphorical story about how we always want bad things. the MV and the whole concept of Wings album and its short films (don't try them yet, you need to be really indepth with BTS Universe to appreciate them fully) - in another words the whole era is based on symbolism connected to the Herman Hesse's book Demian, where the main character (MC) explores his psyche while growing up (spoken lines by RM in this MV and short films are quotes from the book). Theme goes along with coexistence of 'dark' and 'light' in our lives. MC was taught to see only the good side of the world, which is wrong, because the world isn't perfect and has bad side too. One can't live fully embracing just the good. You should accept both. The quote from the book that i really like is MC's thoughts: 'Why are only pleasant things attributed to the God if he created the whole universe? Are not both the light and dark sacred?'. The visuals of mv follow this theme: boys grew up and now facing new temptations to overcome or succumb to it thus they are acting defiantly, as if trying to seduce the viewer. There's a lot of pieces in the MV that are full of symbolism: every picture, statue, sound, object • an apple which means sin both in the religion and the book. Jimin is connected to an apple specifically, but they also all have an apple on their plate in the last supper scene (17:02) • green color also plays the role of a bad things like a devil's blood or a poisonous absinthe reputed to be a hallucinogen and banned in some countries. Namjoon is connected to the absinthe, his lines are "But your wings are wings of the devil. In front of your Sweet is bitter bitter" (16:12). behind the sweetness of the drink (absinthe is often drunk with sugar) lies its real essence of bitterness. it symbolises succumbing to temptation and denying the real world in favor of an illusion • a blindfold that keeps one from seeing the worlds as it is - then when blindfold is gone you see green tears (20:08) • Black and white doors on the sides of the “The Fall of the Rebel Angels” picture that can be representing the inner fight of good and evil (15:13). “The Fall of the Rebel Angels” itself depicts the fall into hell of angels who rebelled against God, they turn into ugly monsters and good angels give them battle. In fact, this is the main idea of the struggle between good and evil, the choice of your side in this battle. there were also sculptures of an angel and a demon on the sides of background in the set for the choreo as you noticed • behind Jungkook's back is a painting of Icarus (16:44). I think everyone is familiar with Greek mythology and is aware that Icarus was presented with wings, but he could not resist the temptation and flew too close to the sun, causing the wax in his wings to melt so he fell. The story echoes the ideas of the song and the title of the album itself: "WINGS". Behind Tae when he jumps from the balcony is "The Fall of Icarus" too (17:45) • a kiss of a fallen angel as an acceptance of a darker side and resolution of the inner chaos. Above the mirror in the MV (20:13) there's a Nietzsche quote (who also has a lot to do with the book's ideology): 'You must have a chaos inside you to give birth to a dancing star'. It's a reference to Nietzsche's ideas about a superman - a creature who, in his power many times surpasses an ordinary person, denies fear and regret, and uncompromisingly follows the chosen path, being the creator of his own destiny. The superman is described in his book "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" and the ideas from there closely connect with "Demian" MC in the book has a few mentors, with help of who he learns life - and you can see that in the beginning of the MV every younger member is paired up with older one + Yoongi playing organ is a direct reference to the one of MC's mentors. Jin (the one who was looking at the painting and kissing the angel) is an observer just like the MC in the book. You also can notice that the rest of the boys are divided into 'good' and 'bad': • Namjoon drinking absinthe and subverting yet innocent Jungkook into it (16:06 Namjoon lights up green candle, 16:34 the wax drops on Jungkook's finger, 16:44 Jungkook licks it) • Jimin having an issue with temptation (holding apple) and Yoongi trying to save him from it (closing his eyes with a hand or a blindfold) (17:42) • Tae being the fallen angel himself (19:53) and Hoseok representing hope and shooting a colourful arrow to him (17:11). I think Hoseok's theme is more prominent in the Japanese version of the mv (it's COMPLETELY different, but be careful, Japanese releases can get blocked). J-hope also has the statue of Pieta behind him, that has the meanings of piety, compassion I would say that especially from Jimin-Yoongi pairing in this mv you can tell that there's no answer what is right: good or evil. The apple is the sin, but the sin is the part of the world. Neglecting it and being blindfolded prevents you not only from "bad" things but from living a life and being yourself: the blindfold holds Jimin to a closed door and doesn't let him go (18:27) the Nietzsche quote also give a hint that hiding from bad may actually be worse then the bad itself, because without accepting all sides of self one can't reach their full potential. and BTS has a whole another era talking about exploring one's self So the story is about exploring the world in its good and bad in order to explore your own self and become something greater

They have a whole series of videos that connect music videos, short films, trailers, notes, webtoons (etc) to make a cohesive storyline known as the BU, which touches a lot of psychological themes and mental health, they even reference Carl Jung through a whole trilogy of albums titled "Map of the Soul". The thing with the storyline is that it requires a lot of attention because it is long and goes very deep, and since many fans love it so much they make the mistake of recomending it to people really early on so some reactors just don't get it and it gets frustraiting because they don't even know the boy's names, get their roles in the story mixed up and miss many details lol Because of your background I'd love to hear your take on the BU and see your journey of falling into the BTS rabbit hole, but for now just know that it exists sghdh have fun getting to know them 😊

Nowadays, since BTS has amazed LEGENDARY status, kpop new generation is trying supper hard to 'tacle' this kind of topics too. (you know since BTS became popular by sharing their autentic selves trough music) but it only feels as a follow the lead since you cant really replicate genuineness. However it means a lot the fact that BTS encourage pple to talk about these things and in return they have gained pples hearts and trust. You wont regret diving into a world full of rich lyricism and introspection, their music really has changed the way kpop is seen across the world.

  • I'm a first year post grad clinical psychology student and I'm really into mystery like detective or thriller. The thing that got me into BTS is the psychological mysteries especially in the HYYH/Best moments in life series and love yourself series, but if your preference is heavy on the psychogy side, bet you have a lot to say about their solos. Start with "The Last" it's very straight forward, much easier for someone new to get a grasp of the depth of their artistry. Then maybe the intro:persona, interlude:shadow, and outro:ego trio which is based by Jung's Map of the Soul concept and after you'll be able to see their work in a very different light. I'd suggest those first before jumping into the rest cause some also need much more in depth explanation, often related to Korean cultures and history. Edit: I feel the need to point out that I suggest "The Last" because it's like a confession which is why I think would be interesting for a clinical psychologist. While "Persona" "Shadow" and "Ego" is more of Psychology as a (musical) art which would be able to act as a bridge to their other songs like "Whalien 52", "Sea" etc

  • Oh Shawn, you better show us your journey getting to know them! Blood Sweat & Tears music video and lyrics are heavily connected to their fictional universe called Bangtan Universe, so if you don't know about it the music video itself is quite confusing. Basically is based on the book Demian by Hermann Hesse which is about a guy in his youth facing temptation and sin, so the music video is full of references to that whole idea. Since you have a M.A. in Clinical Psychology I think it's worth to mention that their fictional universe is about all of them going through traumatic experiences and it treats stuff like depression, suicide tendencies, and a lot of other things that aren't often talked in a country like South Korea. All of it with the final purpose that you must love yourself before loving others, which has been BTS' motto for years. This universe is told through different sources, not only their music videos, so let me know if you want more info about it. I'm a sucker for the Bangtan Universe lol PS: Blue suit guy is Jimin. He is known as the BTS member who can make straight guys to consider their sexuality due to his androgynous looks/attitudes. That's why once you Jimin, you can't Jimout 🤣

    • @@lalisalamilalisalami the vast majority of people who listen to music listen with their ears and hearts. It doesn't take a lot of music theory or analysis to appreciate a song. There are many people out there who can't distinguish against different notes, but in general the majority of music listeners aren't music experts, if a song moves them then it has made an impact on what they perceive as good quality music. So again, if original poster said BTS is the best, then they are the best to them. • I'm 49 yrs old BTS literally saved my life many times. They say BTS finds you when you need them most. I found them in 2018 & in 2019 my mom, sister, & her husband died in a 4 month period & my dad had a heart attack and had to go into a home. They got me through that with their lyrics, music, stages etc. I was in a dark place & became cold & bitter & almost destroyed my family because I didn't know how to grieve. They inspired me and helped me become a better person. Then this year, Jan 1st new years day, my husband of 29 years died 3 days before our 30th wedding anniversary. Without BTS (& my kids ofc) I think I'd be completely destroyed & broken instead of just cracked. Please watch This is BTS by xCeleste to get to know them & understand how incredible they are. They are genuinely good & caring people, and as companies go, big hit actually seems to care about their artists. Also they use psychological concepts from Carl Jung in some of their later songs. Please react to more! I subbed. 💜

The music video is heavy in symbolism from the book, art pieces , and freud, if you would like you can check an analysis vdo of the music video called “Blood sweat and tears what does it all mean” i think u would be pleasantly surprised!
