Damn, you'd think those jets would rip his arms off
@jkilco1Ай бұрын
Do your arms get ripped off when you support your body with them on a bar? No. Then why would anything happen here?
@geo310629 күн бұрын
@geo3106 LOL. A bar is static and has no thrust, therefore no energy opposing your weight. Further, the comment was more about perspective of that energy. Imagine the guys getting this jet pack project wrapped up and came out into the room and said, "well... we're all done here! Now, who'll be the first one to try these out?" You're not raising your hand, I promise.
@jkilco129 күн бұрын
@@jkilco1 First off, energy does not “oppose” weight, it’s a scalar property that defines the potential for something to do work. Work done is force applied over distance, and here, we’re only interested in the force (since distance will anyways be covered when force moves mass). When you support your body by holding onto a bar next to your waist with your hands straight, you’re bearing the force of gravity on your body. The only two factors that can increase this force are adding mass and vertically accelerating. Therefore in the case of the jetpack, the only time you’d have to bear a small fraction more downward force is while accelerating vertically (as you can see in the video, the acceleration is quite less, and for obvious reasons). The rest of the time without acceleration, the thrust acts like the bar, both providing an upward normal force to support your body. As for being the first to try the jetpack, I’d have many other reasons not to be the one. My main concerns would be mechanical failure, heat, fire, explosions.
@geo310628 күн бұрын
@@geo3106 I was referring to the energy produced by the jets opposing the arms. Jesus buddy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@jkilco127 күн бұрын
@@jkilco1 I will remind you that it is not the energy that opposes your weight, it is the force. The energy enables the force. When you’re hovering in the air, you’re not gaining any potential energy, and all the energy from the fuel is being converted to heat, sound, and radiation out the other side in the exhaust without affecting your arm. Also, when you’re hovering in one place, the jet engines are outputting a thrust equal to the force of your weight, which is the same thing that happens when you support yourself on a bar (the force that prevents you from falling “through” the bar holds you up). It is only when you are accelerating that you experience a slight increase in the force your hand has to bear with the engines.

For real! Also, when he landed the turbines were pointing more towards the camera. How would that not push him away from the camera instead of moving towards it. Another thing, I worked at Dulles Airport for 14 years. I used to watch little water spouts form in front of the engine whenever the tarmac was wet and the engines running. Without going into detail about why that happens, I only mention that because when he fired up those 1000 horsepower turbines his sleeves never pull away from his arm as I would expect.

Damn, you'd think those jets would rip his arms off
Do your arms get ripped off when you support your body with them on a bar? No. Then why would anything happen here?
@geo3106 LOL. A bar is static and has no thrust, therefore no energy opposing your weight. Further, the comment was more about perspective of that energy. Imagine the guys getting this jet pack project wrapped up and came out into the room and said, "well... we're all done here! Now, who'll be the first one to try these out?" You're not raising your hand, I promise.
@@geo3106 I was referring to the energy produced by the jets opposing the arms. Jesus buddy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
