Making A Viking Bearded Axe (Skeggox) From An Old Axe
I wanted to make a simple axe restoration.
But as I was grinding the axe head, I discovered many cracks. The head was very old and rusty but I didn't noticed when I bought it in a flea market last summer it was that damaged. I tried to weld it, and fixed some of them, but one was on both side and couldn't be fixed just by welding it.
I almost gave up on the restoration, but decided to make a Viking Bearded Axe out of it, cut the damaged parts and reshape it. And it turned out pretty well.
Engraving the handle was very time consuming but in the end, it was totally worth it.
I hope you will like the video.

That's amazing. You have some serious talent.
Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it ;)
Д
Thank you very much !!! (I was sure I answered your comment earlier, but somehow, I didn't...) :)
Would you like to have a blacksmith video for the flintlock, or to make other machines, such as the 18th century Austrian airgun valve. Thank you, and how to let the iron is not rust, is a simple anti-rust method, thank you, I support you, your e-mail is how much, I was 992467756@qq.com, China's Tencent qq mailbox , I come from Henan Province, China, the name is any star.
I have since subscribed to your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your videos! You are awesome!
My five year old daughter says you are a ninja. That’s pretty significant praise! Well done!
Can you please thank her for me. That's one of the biggest/best compliment I ever got😊
I have she wants an axe to restore now
@@jonvancil4431 😁😊❤🖤
That defect getting cut out makes it look sexier. Great video.
Thank you Brian. Agreed, I really like how the head's shape turned out.
First axe regrind I've seen on KZhead where someone was finally knowledgeable enough to understand they needed to heat treat and temper the blade after all that cutting.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
That's why I use a file an stone. But yes I agree.
The axe restoration and enhancements were worth the wait. Thanx 4 not giving up, as that really has some impressive attributes.
Thank you very much. Lot of work, but yes, it was worth the effort ;)
The Redsmith You're welcome, Sir. I would enjoy seeing your processes on Japanese Kamas. ( hand-held 1/4 sicles atop oaken handles. ) Your work is appreciated.
Japanese Kamas...hum, that's a cool idea. Will see what I can do ;)
The Redsmith . I thought that you might like that idea. Back in 2007, I made it as far as the Canadian Nationals, in the Senior Blackbelt Traditional forms. During the Regionals( inter-province), I employed the use of a set of kamas I had purchased, as my " Kata weapon of choice." I. placed 3rd in the division, but not before being taken to hospital, for one of my kamas ( razor sharp) stabbed and tore through 2 layers of my black belt my gi top and an undershirt, only to penetrate 1 1/2" into my back and missing my spine by 1/2". I got my medal, trophy and 12 stitches. Worth it.
Waow. Happy it missed the spine ! In my many years of training I never hurt myself as my as during my years of making. Tools are sometimes more dangerous than sharp weapons... Glad you're ok. Scars can be trophies too :)
By far I got to say this is a real great piece.
Thank you very much!!
Odin would be proud 👍
Thank you!!!
I've got to say when I saw you throw it in the trash I choked on my Guinness a little. But, then you completely redeemed yourself. It has a fantastic look and that handle, bruh, the handle brought it together wonderfully. You, and people like you, give inspiration to others to step up our game and stop with the "I'll just buy a new one attitude". The more I watch on the old KZhead machine the more I am heartened by the fact that so many like you are taking up the mantle of a hands approach to life. It's just unfortunate that skills like this are not highlighted more frequently in the media.Well done.
Thank you ! Your comment made my day !! Indeed, buying, throwing away and buying again is something I avoid doing. I find value in old stuff and really like giving them a second life. Thank you very much for watching. :)
One of the best Axe restorations I've ever seen & watched. Excellent work.
Rag Tie Thank you Rag. This means a lot to me. 😊
So beautiful! My 4 year old daughter was mesmerized the whole time too!
Thank you Michael. Your comment makes me really happy. My almost 3yo kid is mesmerized when he watches Jimmy's video with me, but never with mine ;)
Uh-oh!
Very Nicely Done Especially the leather it makes it one of a kind 👍👏👍👏
Thanks Alonzo. I was quite hesitating about the leather, but yes, it makes it look a little different. And I put leather everywhere anyway ;)
Imagine being able to think "Hmm. I'm going to make a viking axe today" and then just doing it. What an amazing level of talent.
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. Because that's pretty much what I thought that morning ;)

The shape of the axe head is so cool looking. I like the way you heat treated and tempered the axe head.

I feel the need to get an Axe now, Amazing work!
Thank you very much!
Tremendous work!
Thank you very much!
DUDE..!!!!! Love all the detailing on this pc. Next time you have cracks in an axe use your angle grinder to grind them out then weld over.. welding over a crack doesn't remove the crack, you have to get in there and get all of the crack, then fill the grind area with weld.. that handle is sweet too!! Very cool Celtic style.. and the leather to hold the head on was a nice touch.. VERY WELL DONE BROTHER!!!!!
Lonnie Dillon Thanks Lonnie. I really aporeciate your advice. I now realize I should have ask you before. But if I had I would have made a viking axe but maybe just a successful axe restoration 😊
The Redsmith haha all good brother.. enjoy your Saturday
You too Lonnie.

Alex 2Q Thanks my friend. I'm happy you liked bith the build and the video. Sorry for the wait 😊
Alex 2Q exit
Awesome work, best of all of the making a Viking axe from an old axe that I have seen, and the only one with a properly shaped handle, most put a modern shaped axe handle instead of a roundish shaped on like yours! I love it!
Thanks for noticing that ! You're the only one so far ;) Thank you for watching and the kind words.
Question: wouldn't a slightly oval handle have been better, to keep the axe from turning in your hand? The rest of it was beautiful!
Love the music and that is a awesome beautiful axe Brother!
Jesse Travella Thank you very much!!!

That's marvellous! You could do some serious pillaging with that.
