fully 3d printed 50mm speed jet! she had a good maiden flight. very positive flight characteristics. I need to make some minor adjustments to the design and print a new one.

    • One of my sons at around age 2 decided he could fly like a bird, and “trusting” his beliefs he did a belly flop off the coffee table and made about half a flap of his arms/wings before going splat on the floor. Maybe he needed more trust.

    @reeceengineering3560@reeceengineering3560Ай бұрын
    • The reason the intake might be separate from the fuselage is to reduce the amount of disturbed air entering the intake. Look at US military jets such as the F-4, F-15, F-16, XB-70. Is this what you were talking about?

    • Woahh I just checked out your channel that’s so cool! If you haven’t flown that yet I can give you some pointers. You’ll need to reduce your roll rate down to 35% max. We have very similar air frame profiles. My CG calculation was not even close to the actual. Email me anytime you’d like. Builtfastkyle@gmail.com

      @hotlapkyle@hotlapkyleАй бұрын
    • @@hotlapkyle Really looking forward to seeing the v2 video! Thanks for your advice - the roll rate reduction is something we have recently learned the hard way on our foamies we've been flying - was way too responsive before and led to a few crashes! The CG tuning has also been a lot of work too, conventional methods for working out neutral point break down for delta wings. We've been able to refine this by taking measurements in the wind tunnel and using CFD to give an exact estimate (we also "flew" the aircraft in the wind tunnel recently - video coming soon). Interestingly the neutral point also changes at angles of attack above ~15 degrees which makes trimming the stability even harder. Thanks for sending your email - i'll keep in touch!

  • That is a GORGEOUS airplane, sir! Looks like an early cold war X-plane, and they are by far my favorites. I haven't tried the XFly 50mm units, so I can't speak to those, but I have a couple RC Lander 10-blade 50mm alloy stator 4300kv units (~$50) and they really rip on 4s. The other 50mm class I've really liked are the QX units. One thing to remember about the 50mm class especially, though, is unfortunately, many otherwise decent fan units come with motors that aren't the greatest and don't really push the fans themselves to the max they're capable of.

I use mode 1 , so that my left hand is always on the left stick , giving me elevator and rudder control ,during the hand launch. 2. The edf should be mounted slight upthrust and left thrust for sucessful hand launch...when view from the rear. 3. Always have ample space for the battery compartment for ease of getting the c.g. balance.

  • I forget what the exact original designation of the SR71 was but it did not start out as that. I followed the project since I was like 13 years old the design the whole thing just amazed me. Originally the skeptics really put the thing down when it was on the drawing boards. Just so folks know Clarence Kelly was the birds father and it was not just Lockheed that made it fly. North American was deeply involved in design concepts over Lockheed providing the power structural specs. Grumman gave it the weapons bay and Skunk works added the spyware to the stew. The SR71 can carry a nuclear payload too. There were so many misleading public articles about the thing. I got to see it in person at home in 1988. Just before I briefly left my enlisted military tenure it was on the tarmac at Groom Lake. That was where I talked to another A&P that was servicing the engines on it for a flight over Russia again. That was where I noticed it actually had a fair size weapons bay. For years the Navy kept kept a handful of highly modified F14's and A-6's.

  • I’ve done a lot of research into electric EDF trying to push speed boundaries, and it’s really a game of diminishing returns. Sure I can shove 2 90s and a 12s into a foamie, but that power system weighs more than 5kg, more than the weight of the original aircraft, and you don’t even get the proposed 12kg of thrust, it’s more like 10. In terms of power to weight ratio: 1.5:1 is required for a fast jet, 2:1 is awesome but difficult, 3:1 is probably impossible, and 4:1 is definitely impossible with today’s motor technology. If you’re chasing speed it means one thing: you MUST upgrade to a turbine jet. Be careful man. Chasing speed is a rabbit hole. It’s literally more expensive than drugs.

  • Nice one! 2nd attempt was not nose heavy but a poor throw. I remember an old Starfighter plan and the CG was at the leading edge at the fuselage. Don't underrate the influence of your fuselage in front of the wing. Room for improvement I think is: Rounded intake to avoid flow separation inside, the back of the intake at the vertical stabilizer and you can reduce the diameter of the nozzle to increase the speed of outflow. Lots of testing is needed but fun! Good success!

    @hi-5429@hi-5429Ай бұрын
    • Thanks. So I added the speed meter in front of the battery and it added 25g to the nose weight. The plane was already very nose heavy. I also think that battery was weak too. Lots of adjustments to be made! The current exhaust diameter is 43.6mm right in the middle of the static and speed thrust for a 50mm. I can adjust it once I get some measurements

Excellent video. You may not approve of making rockets and bombs, but you can save lives. I subscribed.😊
