Bro, at my workplace, if anybody used a pneumatic impact wrench to remove bearings, bushings, anything, they would be asked to leave. Step one: spray the part with oil! A little lubrication goes a long way. Step 2: Maybe try heat and cold. Freeze the part, then apply heat to the bushing or bearing on the outside. You might be surprised the result. Finally, use the correct tools and be slow and intentional. If the part has any value, take your time. Even the proper tools can destroy a part.
Yes, avoid high amounts of force whenever possible. Heat differential (pun intended) is the winner, if possible. Shit just falls apart with gravity, sometimes.
😊😊
Exactly, so many people thing pneumatic tools are for everything because they speed things up. BUT you can’t these newer generation anything, only some have some wits about them but not much. 😣
This isn't a high quality part tho. He's just showing how to get it off. I do agree with you but he did fine for an old rusty piece also
And at my work place they teach us to use pneumatic tools to remove bearings and bushings. Just cuz you’ve done it that way doesn’t mean another way is wrong.
Did anybody notice that the location they first tried to place the puller was right next to the gear, but the last place they used the new puller was right at the lip where the bearings were?

an did u notice the cut right when the tool failed an had to get another one Chinese aluminum

Yes both are different. Making fool
A real mechanic would love to have the well manicured nails of this guy. No broken nails, smooth polished and extremely clean.
There's always a right tool for the right job
Lubricate the puller threads and it’s likely to outlast the job. You can often notch a bearing race with a slitting disc. You don’t need to go deep. Just enough to keep a cold chisel lined up. Support the race on a heavy “anvil” and hit with a lump hammer. The race will crack.
Right. Go just deep enough to 🖕up the pinion gear.
Or you could just use this tool …..🤷♂️
@@Sicurap2 Frankly with all that rust I'm surprised it even came off with the puller.
@@InsideOfMyOwnMind It only worked as the rust hadn't penetrated between the shaft and the race. If it had, then there was no way that puller would have done the job.
@@Sicurap2 that puller doesn't work that well, that bearing was definitely split before they used the puller, it's just not shown

A little lubricant goes a long way also, sure you can hack something off but the right tools for the job make it easier👍
I was going to say soak it in PB Blaster for awhile and the jobs a lot easier no matter how your removing it.
Lube don't help remove those as they are pressed on, no lube is getting in there. That race was not really even stuck, more times then not using that puller I have broken that upper ring off. Heat is often your best friend here.

I have that set of bearing pullers and it will pull off large bearings down to the tiniest bearings on a battery tool. I love this tool.
It's always good to have the right tool.
Nah, costs money and you probably use it once. in this case, grind the hard chrome off, weld as couple peaces of metal or grind slots for puller to crab since the bearing race is toast anyways, apply penetrating oil to now heated gap that got the rust moving and more room for oil and use puller to remove it, or just grind it in half using grinding disk not cut off wheel if you dont have a puller in hand. Just need to be careful when getting close,. Then oil and give it a couple taps to remove the halfs. For some cases you can use used cut off wheel to make a cut and then finish by removing the material in top, then bang wedge to open it up and pull the race out. Where there is a will, there is a way, just use your head and consider the potential issues like ruining the temper, damaging the important surfaces etc and laugh how this type of tool demos are ridiculous, specially if you know about mechanic work. There has been maybe one tool that could be useful, rest are just waste of money and worse faked and scams.
It takes two minutes to place the gear upside down and heat the bearing with a torch and it falls all by itself. It's called heat espantion while the inner race is snug on the shaft , when you heat the inner race fast enough it will expand to the point that it has no choice but to fall as if it is too big for the shaft.
@edwardst•pierre1020 • Agreed, but even less than two minutes if you just run a bead on the race with a welder, and less heat penetration to the shaft/pinion.
@@douglas_drew yes you are right but using a torch with the proper heat is a better control situation. While the gear is standing on the shaft end the flame is in direct contact but won't touch the shaft. This can apply to any size shaft . Welding means that you have to make contact with the shaft and possibly knocking it over. I have seen people use a zip grinder and cut through the inner race of a bearing which takes a lot of energy, while cutting into everything in order to remove the core off. Using a torch is very dangerous if you are not a professional with a torch. Once you are good with a torch and with the right technique anything is possible. I have cut bearings off of a shaft with out touching the shaft at the same angle as the shaft by bouncing the flame off of the shaft. Those were the days that I missed. It sucks getting older while on a pension. Boy could I tell you of a few close calls. I actually have a few lives left. Hey have a great day every day because they are the best ones.
.... and how long to unravel and pack up your hoses etc etc. Use a grinder, but on a 45 degree angle (or more), not up and down like in this video. Only need to score a line then a sharp hit with a cold chisel will crack it and it will slide off easily. Takes only about 2 mins an no damage.
@@joey66436 sure could work
@@edwardst-pierre1020 yes but if you weld your torch, bearing buller and welding nozzle together creating this sacred tool of awesomeness, then it should take it off under a minute. Also soak the gear in Gas so it cleans off the corrosion immediately before.
I used a dremel with an elastic wheel, to cut through a bearing inner race, or siezed car wheel bearing. Make the gap wide enough for a coal chizel. Then hit the head of the Medal chizel with a lump hammer. Ping it parted because it's a brital material. Forgot - hit the outer race of the bearing with a hammer, it will shatter, because it's brittle.
I'm headed to Harbor Freight to buy one of these.

I like the rusty old teapot and janky lantern in the background. Looks like a very professional workshop.
You dont need a fancy workshop just the ingenuity, look at India Africa, they work in dirt and barefoot, and will mend a part whereas in the West you will buy a new part in and charge premium.
El útil util está muy bien y como demostración vale, pero las mordazas hay que apretarlas un poco y pasar lija por el eje y añadir un poco de aceite para facilitar la extracción.
I like the quick cut in the video for when that puller yeeted itself off and they re-seated it in a different spot to complete the video lol

Finger pointing is such a universal language.
That's how it's done the right tool makes the job easy
You forgot the tried and true technique of dipping the whole assembly in liquid nitrogen and then strapping dynomite to the bearing. That's a must for any stubborn bearing. Good call steering clear of lubricants, too. Those are a sure sign of weakness.
lol
It doesn't hurt to spray a little lubricant also , and great tool , I have one .
Nothing wrong with what this person has done, goal achieved. Nice.
Are you suggesting that some things come apart easier with tools designed for the task? I never would've imagined that.
I am constantly amazed how people can come up with tools to do just about anything.
These pullers have been around for as long as I have, maybe longer. I'm in my early 70's.
@DallasBurgher, yea it's amazing just how many actual tools there are for like EVERYTHING you could need one for.... It actually borders on the ridiculous sometimes where there is a "$5-$10" tool that "releases a clip" that you could just press with your fingernail to remove but the tool exists nonetheless.
@zenithperigee7442 hey don't be hating on us nail biters. we need that tool. or a flat tip screw driver lol. or when my nails are long im horrified of pulling my nail off haha.
This is a basic tool in this industry 😂😂. I work for a company that makes front and rear ends and we have a bunch of these pullers at the shop.

That reminds me, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow.
@herculydia, annnd you're going into work instead! Got it!😂 I just finished up with dental work this time last year, like 8 teeth on the bottom! I hadn't been to a Dentist in good grief ages. I had all all wisdom teeth cut out at one point otherwise I had 4 upper teeth fixed and my bottom teeth already had small cavities then but I just went on with life for the next 20 yrs & finally just got all of them fixed last year. Good grief what a time, I was in the Office about 2-3 hours on 2 different visits. Yet I have otherwise "beautiful" teeth. One thing that was so problematic is I had a bad habit of having a candy or cough-drop at night.... But I've always been an "ice-breaker" and love carrots, nuts, apples etc.

You can do this if the shaft tolerance isn't an issue or if the whole thing is going to be replaced anyways. Pulling a bearing without any lubricants or heating (or freezing) may affect the shaft tolerance and thats an additional cost if you don't have a spare. But again, if tolerance is not an issue its ok.
Greasing the tool wouldn't be a bad idea 😂

I'm a little more concerned about the socket that used on an impact wrench, look like a chromium socket to me and those things will explode that's why you use the black impact sockets, just from past experiences I'm sure the experts out there I'll jump on me for this one and Lord over how smart they are LOL but don't worry you can't hurt my feelings I used to have to hold the light for my dad!!😊
I'm just wondering why you didn't use the spinning end on the bolt so it doesn't deform the end of the bolt, plus I'm concerned about why you didn't use a impact socket on the bolt. I've seen them come off a lot harder than that. I've even seen then chip a piece off of the bearing puller before, and I've had to use heat along with everything mentioned.
In the real world you do what it takes.
@drrd4062 or you don't do it at all. It sure helped growing up on the farm, and my grandfather being a John Deere mechanic.
@@user-yq4rp7ye6t you must have learned many different ways to do different things. Would you share some 'tricks" of the trade. I ll start. Back in my day there were points. And to properly set them you had to remove the back lash from the bearings. Otherwise you never could get it right.
@drrd4062 lol. My Troy Built tiller with a 7 hp Kohler still has points on it. Don't forget that you had to set the dwell on the points on vehicles! Something else that I learned to do is weld, braze, and I learned to fuse two metal's together with bailing wire. Start a diesel with gasoline on a rag over the intake screen. Drill out and remove broken bolts. Overhaul, small engines, grind valves and seats, set tapets, overhaul automobile engines. Either you learned to do it, or the farm went under, because who could pay or afford to pay someone else, or the downtime waiting on someone when you could fix it yourself?
