Shot my first 8 point (Cheboygan Co MI) last year thanks to this channel. Been hunting 6 years. My sons are 5, 4, and 2. Can’t wait to share WHS resources with them as they grow.
Just shot my first 9 point this past weekend in (Emmet Co MI) and wanted to also extend my thanks to this channel. Watching these videos helped me mature my hunting game on my family's cute little 69-acre property. Small world, best of luck this year neighbor!
grats! shot my first public land deer in south central Kalkaska county bout

Just got my pa buck on first frost morning yesterday. Very nice day.
Monday night was🔥in Southern Tier of NY. Had 2 good bucks in the field and 6 doe.
Thanks Jeff and Dylan. I really feel like you are lining us up for success. Mike from SW Wisconsin
Hi Mike! Good to hear from you! Good luck 👍😊
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751Likewise my friend(s)! Wish you great luck on your Target Bucks this year.
Same here from Clintonville WI👍👊✌😎
Tagged out Friday in Wisconsin! Pre rut is becoming my best time of the year to be in the woods!
It is awesome Brice!
I’ve been watching your videos whenever they pop up before work in the morning. You guys are awesome!
5 deer out roaming the alfalfa at mid day today. 20 degrees here in central Ontario Canada. Caught me by suprise
Hot here in Missouri. That is going to change dramatically by Sunday. This week high in the 80's. Next week high in the 50's and getting down to freezing by daylight. It is going to get busy! I'm loving it! Great video. Thanks!
Pete from North Central WV elevation 1250'........ Bucks are now semi serious fighting. That spot where they change from jousting to drag out fights,
I got family who own land off route 50 a few miles from Clarksburg and I’ve always loved getting out there to hunt, so I’m jealous
Farmers are having a hard go this year taking corn and some beans off due to water and mud in the fields.... But they might be hard at it this weekend if we don't get soaked again here in South East Michigan.... Some really really nice bucks have been taken locally and it's only going to get better in the next few weeks.... Good luck and get after um boys and girls.
Next week in KY is looking like 76 on Sunday, rain Monday and Tuesday, and 46 on Wednesday. I only work half-days on Wednesdays, so I'm looking forward to that afternoon.
I have all next week off, and my god is everything about next week setting up to amazing in upstate Pennsylvania. It usually is a hot week for deer movement, but theres a huge front coming through mid week, with a 20 degree drop in temps in just under 24hrs, with heavy frosts the rest of the week after that. Going to be such a good week if i can get in the right spot
Your videos helped me bag a nice Michigan 10 point on Saturday!
Jeff, southern Ohio here, just south of wayne national forest, practicing what youve been telling us for 2 years or so, this is the first year I am applying your patience tactics so i dont spoil a good morning stand, its killing me lol
I heard you say before about timing and doe estrus, from that, i wrote down the date and exact time of my harvest last year. Two decent bucks were hounding a doe, I had never witnessed that behavior other than videos. Knowing the date gives me a bit more confidence , especially that day. (Anyone in or around Central Kentucky, that date was 11/14/2022 @ 0753 hrs if anyone was curious)
I go back to work Saturday through Tuesday dang it.
Big cold front coming in next week! Cant wait to hunt it.🙂
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all! Your tips and tricks have lead me to horns on the ground this year with my target buck for the season!
Super informative and easy to understand. What guy hasn't sported the "electrical tape" band-aid at least once in his life. Rock on guys. 🤘😎
Haha... appreciate you!
Looking for the right weather and day next week for opening archery. Hung the mock scrapes learned from your videos a month ago. Can't wait to check the cameras. It's public land and hopefully I will be successful. Haven't killed a deer since my last tour in Iraq. It took me awhile to get back into hunting four legged animals. Last year was more scouting and finding spots and learning new area. Wish I could bag a deer like you have there.
Best of luck...it's coming very soon and happy you can get out! Most of all thank you for your service 👍
Thank you for your service, good luck, hope you get a big one!
Good luck !
Thank you for your Service !! Truly appreciated. . Enjoy every day hunting in this great country of ours that you Protect !! Shoot Straight Stay safe n God Bless 😎
My son hunted my pre rut / rut stand that I fell out of this past Saturday.he had fantastic action and let I nice 2.5 year old 8 point walk.he heard 2 buck sparring this morning at 5:40 and yesterday At 3:00 had 2.bu ck
I agree I also don’t see hunters really in the morning either I set up a hour before light shot a lot of nice bucks in the morning stay blessed!!
Had a buck chasing 2 does in my back yard yesterday..seems so early still!
For Georgia specifically, the DNR mapped out per county the peak days for Car vs. Deer(buck) accidents. With the more movement pre-rut---RUT--post rut they put out a good guestimates on rut days for each county
buck activity is ramping up in SW PA. had a couple stinky ones pass by last week.
The Rut period is Halloween to Nov. 18 in my part of New York. The pre-rut has started. Doe Estrus and a Mock scrape has always worked. The Peak Rut is the first week of November.
I am going to say that being noctural is an in-born instinctive behavior, not necessarily a hunting pressure induced behavior. True, hunting pressure will make them MORE noctural, but they were already predisposed. Take trail camera observations of low pressure areas like northern MN and WI. Steve Sherk from big woods PA. A lot of his pictures are at night and he starts getting excited about hunting when they start getting daylight active.
Nose to the ground in a primary scrape area
Peak rut here in middle TN is right around my birthday, Nov 15th. Ive had alot of bucks show from last year, its awesome to see how much they change and trying to figure out which deer is which, just adds to the challenge. Good luck fellow hunters 👍🦌
Great advice ! Pass through clover plots still jamming on pm sits. Saving bedding am's starting 29th 🏹🦌🤸 Thank you for building better bowhunters !
Jeff can you do a video on your E-bikes that you use and what you look for and how you utilize them for hunting? Thank you!
Thanks Jeff
Hey Jeff, got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and even can't go hunting with all my time off!!
Hopefully you can go this weekend!
Oh I ain't missing this weekend no worries 😂
Great video and thank you for the knowledge! Occasionally you show bucks that you take while hunting, do you have videos of your hunts somewhere to watch? Would love to see them! Thanks in advance
The deer here are getting no pressure.Sign everywhere. But don’t like to cross the creek till dark.Getting daylight activity on my cameras.Last year on the 13th of November?I saw 8 buck chasing off my deck.Next week looks real good to hit my best stands. And hopefully get my wife out for her first sit.She has the best luck. She has 1 sit and a shooter walks by her🤷🏻
Forst year on public. Hopefully i tag put this year. Thanks for the info
Nice, we love hunting public land! You are welcome...best of luck to you!
Very good information I really enjoy your videos ,and have learned a lot from your channel. Thanks for the very helpful information.
Cant wait for Friday😁😁 30 degree drop into Saturday morning
It is crazy Zack...can't wait!
Same here, NE Michigan. If you could only take Friday OR Saturday off of work what day would you suggest?
Saturday that’s the temp drop day and a break from the rain.
@@twominutewalksinthewoods.4400 Saturday all day sit different spots
Hello Jeff I wish I had your knowledge in the deer woods years ago but know learning so much from KZhead videos excellent job.
Great post. Thanks for your expertise.
You are very welcome?
Hi Jeff! TY as always for another awesome podcast. Northern NJ and pre rut is on now as well. But weather is crap!!! Not even morn temps are going to be below 40s and 50s until next Monday. Would you still take a few jabs/sits in the morning anyways if wind is right?
Always great advice thanks
Thank you TS!
I love it when you make this video. Makes my season worth waiting on. Crappy weather has krpt me inside. Cant wait for 1 more week... gonna hit it hard and can not wait to shoe you my big fella... if i get lucky 😂
heading up friday.. temps drop by 20 degrees sat...
I got my first picture and video of a well into daylight buck on Saturday in one of the funnels I plan on hunting as soon as I get the right weather. Looks like a front will pass just before Halloween here. He was not big but his nose was to the ground and he was moving straight through.
Hi Jeff, I have been watching your videos for about two years now and I believe this year is the year I will have success on a mature buck with a bow. I have a buck that has daylighted once in the morning and keeps showing up in front of my stand about an hour or so before daylight. When I go in to hunt expecting him to come back around 9 he doesn't. I think I know where he is bedding. I was wondering if you could give some advice on what I should do.
Great points as always Jeff. Thanks 🙏 for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us. Sadly my wife works nights and I can’t leave to go hunting until she gets home 🏡 or a little after. I watch my little 5 year old stepson and definitely will wait until she gets home 🏡. Then a 45-60 minute drive to the hunting area. Looks like does in the evening for me, which I have to be fine with, plus they can taste even better according to some people. I personally can’t tell the difference. 🦌🍖🥩😋🏹
Thanks for all the tips! Good luck yall! -midmichigan
Had2 buck come behind him modesto the ground and then had a small buck bed down 20 yards from him in a primary scrape area.its definitely starting in pa
I feel like lots of smart hunters will be harvesting their bucks this weekend here in MN
Low 70s and sunny here til Sat. Then rain.
Dylan deserves a huge pay increase ;) great vid Jeff
Pre - Rut, is just a time early to your interaction with the deer that may be mating and concluding the psychology of the season,, so your hunting pressure is like a gauge of it to the end of your interaction or movement about the Rut so rutting bucks are vulnerable LoL
Heck I see the rut peak different stand to stand because I cover so much ground. I've got 4 stands that based on trailcam data I only hunt one week a season.
Hey Jeff, I hunt public land in the Cincinnati area. This week temps are in the mid 70s during the evenings and I was wondering should I still try to get out and hunt this week or wait for a front to come in? What locations should I focus on if I do hunt?
BTW do you have any recommendations for hunting club memberships? I like hunting public land but would like a place to go further North.
Here’s the problem - it’s so hot these past few days and the leaves so dry. One step in the leaves is like and AC-DC concert that I’m afraid to check in fear to scare things off. Kinda suck pre rut
Do you ever out trail cams into known bedding areas? We have a defined bedding area but i have never gone into it. Just have cams outside when they come out at daybreak or sunset.
I’m having a hard time seeing Bucks Southern, Michigan Saint Joesph county any tips? And I sit for long sits I usually do day pack outs. I am using scent control, and all the preparations.
Hi Jeff, any idea when pre-rut will kick in for Western, NY?
Hey Jeff, I hunt the U.P, and I haven't been seeing any deer yet. Should I keep hunting those spots (private land), or should I try find different places? Will the pre rut make them move more and make it worth it to keep hunting my spots?
14 yes old, first year hunting. Going for buck
But you said in another video that the signing phase is showing the pre rut is around 7 to 10 days after the signs?
Chris Brown hunting public land and WMA’s here in Harlan Ky’s steep treacherous mountains, super thick and rough. There’s zero agriculture it’s pretty much so mountains. Some of the biggest mountains in Ky are here. I’ve been hunting strictly bow. I have found a bucks core area and hope to get him on the ground this weekend. I’d love for any KZhead hunter to come here and try their hand at these big public land mountains.
Pretty awesome!
Weird I haven’t pressured my food plot at all and I still don’t have bucks daylighting. Central mn. Still 50 degrees, but this weekend is a huge cold front. Would you suggest an evening hunt even though no target bucks have daylight yet?
I always find the pre rut hard to hunt for me. Being as I work 6 days a week. And we start before sun up. So morning hunting is confined to one day. And sometimes I don’t get that day off. It’s really frustrating
Will the 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks be bedding in the same areas as the nature bucks?
Another great video! Quick question if you can. I'm assuming the acorn crop is the problem but my cereal grain and clover plot is limed, fertilized, growing beautifully, lush and green, only problem is the deer aren't touching it! My rye grain and wheat is 10 inches tall and getting tough. Can I mow it??
Plant clover
@Bow-Man there's a lot of clover mixed in and it's doing well. I will layer more clover on it I guess and again in early spring. Thanks
What delay do you run on your Tactacams? And do you use multi shot?
Jeff, do you do any waterhole maintenance? My water holes are full of frogs and algae. I'm seeing two schools of thoughts on it, one is deer like the murky dank stuff, and the other says i need to clean it up. What are your thoughts?
We only take them out in the spring...sometimes...and that's it. Since 2004 😊
I don’t have any morning sets the property I hunt just doesn’t allow for it. It’s 40 acres and 30 of them are beans. My only access is walking in from the field and the deer are all over my stand all night until about 8am
I'm in an almost identical situation. It's tough.
Definitely makes it hard, I think I’m going to try slipping in just after they leave and try calling and rattling to see if I can get one to come back
Recently got into a archery deer culling program in western PA. Ton of doe seen. Any tips?
Lots of fun!
Uga and state dnr created the state rut
Whats the best affordable deer or cattle pellets to feed deer?
Wth heavy rain will that wash scent away ????
Is it best to rattle during pre rut?
Man I’ve seen an explosion of buck activity on the cameras the last few days new bucks showing up! Holding off on a 4 1/2 plus
So awesome Drew...I live for that explosion 😁
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 all thanks to you big guy😊
Me too drew. I have a couple of new bucks, but, all but one 10 point (young, nothing an antler hunter would take) are at night. Within 20 minutes of last legal shooting light, they trickle in.
I have a lot of core bucks but none are bigger then 9 or small 10 point
I’m in NY. We’ve had a ton of just after dark buck activity. I’ve been able to relate wind to it. Suspicious on south winds.. I was right. 4 different bucks were out this morning between 7-9am. Do you think they’re now seeking? Tempted to sit out this afternoon if they’re on the hunt for a doe. They were all around the same tree/scrape that we’ve been consistently seeing them at after dark(hour or so after dark)
Speaking of that, he just came by again at 11am. He’s on the move for something
@@SamJonesOutdoorsI would use Doe Estrus. I’m seeing Buck activity from Sunday. Deer movement was incredible that afternoon with all the wind and rain that day.
@@boostimalaka1 we actually ran a trail last night through the main field with some. With no rain, that scent should stick for a little but I think that’s what’s got them curious
@@SamJonesOutdoors It was 35 degrees outside this morning, I don’t think the temperature has anything to do with deer activity. It’s always around this week bucks will start looking for a hot doe. I have harvested bucks always during Halloween week. From October 30 to November 5th. It’s always around the same time. The DEC Biologist told me the rut always starts the same time.
@@boostimalaka1 I honestly think you’re right. I mean… if it’s 90° or 30° and I want some tail, temps not going to stop me haha. But my brother and buddy that owns the property are going out tonight to see. I’ll update ya on what happens
So what time are you going in in the morning? Everybody says go in in the morning, but the morning is a long time. Before dawn, 7:30, 9?

Hunting all my life and still dont know when actually this prerut is. How do you distinguish between pre rut and the actual rut? Approximately what dates in PA are pre rut and then rut?
Pre rut is when bucks are ready but the first does still haven’t come into heat! He is up moving around in the morning checking out doe family groups and making appearances! The actual rut is bucks are ready and does are in heat and the chasing begins and then bucks start getting locked down with does and start covering more ground
Thanks! so the only difference between the two phases, pre rut vs rut, is a doe being in heat? Right?
What if the doe in an area never go into heat? Does that mean the actual rut cant happen?
👍🏻
AR Ozark Mountains update: The boys are chasing the girls. And the acorns are already falling. Plots aren't seeing the attention they were getting two weeks ago.
Just starting to see some swollen necks and sparring here in Central indiana.
Would you recommend rattling pre rut
Very light...but I do not.
yes it brought my bigggg 10 in i shot last sat...huge big boy
No scents No calls No rattling atleast in northern Wisconsin because every parcel around you has been rattling since September
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 do you wait till 9-10 am when the movement is slow to start calling so that you don’t spook a near by doe
I have a buck that I can’t figure out. I’d love to have a conversation with you and see if you couldn’t help me out. If your willing to take the time, please let me know.
Man Austin I wish I could! I hope all of the videos help you out 👍
Details? Why cant you figure him out? Public land? Private? Nocturnal? Are you hunting over bait? Are you paying attention to thermals? Are you over pressuring? Lets hear the details
Yeah spill it!

That was fast!
Most of us hunt over corn in feeders not food plots
I think most hunters that follow WHS put in food plots. Good luck man 👍
