It's 3am. You find yourself waking to the voice of your daughter saying "Mommy, I'm scared" as she crawls into bed with you. Her tiny little hands hug your back as she nuzzles closer to you. It's 3:01 am when you realize that your daughter is at summer camp and won't be back til next week. You quickly turn to see who's behind you and...nothing, there's no one there. But as you turn your gaze towards the door, you see her...standing there, watching. Your body freezes as she grins and disappears before your eyes. It's 3:05 am and you know you won't be going to sleep again. You should have listened when they said you were residing in a haunted house...one of many haunted houses.
Now, this little story might be fictional, but many people claim to have had similar experiences in the houses featured on this list.
From the Mexican House of Laments that witnessed brutal serial murders to the infamous DeFoe House in New York that inspired the iconic horror movie The Amityville Horror, we bet you would do anything to avoid spending a night at any of the houses featured in this list (And you'd be wise to do so). These are 25 terrifying haunted houses few are brave enough to live in.

  • Yay Lemp no. 1. Just had lunch there last week , food is amazing and yes it's very haunted , we heard gunshots during lunch, and no it wasn't fireworks it's inside Saint Louis city limits, heard gunshots sounded muffled , the staff just goes on about their business , real weird !

    • Yes! Finally the condemned is taken out and told to lie on their back. Progressively, various rocks that require two Men to lift are placed on and around the chest area! The victim dies a very slow-painful death until they choke on their blood or asphyxiation occurs. Either is AWFUL! Early societies were barbaric! Sometimes a simple banishment from the town was enough to guarantee certain death due to animals, Indians, and or exposure to elements. This too was slow and painful.

    • And for a stupid reason! It turns out NOT to be haunted by victims of the Winchester rifle, but by Sarah Winchester who waster her money and years because she fell for a lie by a so-called seer. The seer wanted her to 'donate' her money to her to get rid of the hex, but stupid Sarah frittered it away. She could have donated it to widows and orphans who really needed it during those times

  • Lalaurie is pronounced "lah-lor-ee". Also, you missed the "most haunted house in America" - a plantation in St. Francisville, LA called The Myrtles (for all the crape myrtle trees) where the owner's slave mistress was afraid of losing her position in the house and so decided to make the children sick in order to affect a "miracle cure" on them. However, she poisoned the cake she baked just a little too much, and the children all died. The property is haunted by her and the children. It is now a B&B so go check it out.

However there is one ghost that is in the basement, and he is a coal worker than will just shovel coal and go down a long hallway with his barrel. (this is all from the employees that work the tours there, as of the first week of June, 2016)
