A video I have been wanting to make for a long time! What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
This video is simply about how you can raise a termite queen and king into a colony using a testube, cotton and some water! Hope it helps and i will see you guys in another vivarium update soon!

  • This was very informative...and they are kind of cute to watch. Do you keep the test tube out of the light while they are establishing? Do they manage on just the water and cotton, or do you need to introduce other food occasionally? What type of termites are these? Thank you for always providing great content.🖤🇨🇦

  • This is a superb video Nordic Ants. Thank you for making it. I would like to get some harvester termites from Germany now that I know there is a supplier based there. What type of nest would be best suited to the formation of a termite colony? I think Hodotermes mossambicus can be fed on grass alone once the colony has taken off and there are worker castes available to gather food.

    • Hmmm well a dirtsetup seems to me the best! But if you want to see them put two pieces of glass together and dirt inbetween? Ask the supllier as well! They should know. Or do you want to make a vivarium?

  • I found a queen termite in an actual mound what should I do? She doesn't have a king so maybe one of her workers will molt into one? Or not I do want to keep her though

    • Depends on the species! But remember that it is not like ants where the egg hatches to larvae and then cocoon. The egg hatches into a small worker(nymph) that grows! So egg to nymph, not as much as for ants :D maybe two weeks

    • @@nordicants6232 they do have food and moisture, plus I live in Australia so it's hot. There is a bit of mould growing in there. Does this affect the anything?

    • That ”mold” might be their fungus! Depending on the species you are keeping. Should be fine as long as it doesnt spiral out of control :D

  • i did the same in a small ant-farm container with 20 kings and queens termites. i did not expect almost all survived and paired equally without knowing their gender. i have 8 pairs laying eggs and hatching the same time. they don't seem to eat anything (i put coco peats/coir together with cottonballs) except the cotton balls. IS IT OKAY TO FEED THEM PURELY COTTON ALONE FOR THE WHOLE COLONY?? Help, don't know what to do next caring for it with several pairs in a bottle.

    • by the way, its been almost 2 months, plenty of tiny white babies are appearing the same in the video. there holes they made in their nest are getting bigger and almost reaching with other pair's nest holes. i dont think they will battle it out since they came from the same swarm when i collected them? or should i separate them, if so how?

    • I have to be honest with you, i have no idea what will happend when they meet, but it would be a wonderful experience to see what happends when they do! Please share a comment whem :D if you want. Concerning only cotton, it has worked for me but it all depends on the species! Some even grow fungus
