Inca Empire - rise and modernization / EU4 / RP storytelling

The Incas, a rather small people who lived in the center of the Andes Mountains, had a rather interesting fate - they created the largest empire in pre-Columbian America with the best infrastructure, the best administration, the largest army, the highest level of technology, the most gold and silver, the coolest llamas, and so on. In this video, I will tell you my story of how this empire was formed, what it was and how it was able to survive the invasions of Europeans, and adapt to the world that suddenly appeared before them, in the form of a historical narrative, using Europa Universalis IV with the mod MEIOU & TAXES.

  • One's I had a weird thought of what if the Incas somehow adopted Tibetan style Buddhism. I think the aesthetics would be very interesting.

    • I straight up had a Tibet game a long time where I colonized a lot of the new world lmao. Most of the south and North American west coast is Vajrayana. So your scenario would play out there

  • This is exactly the kind of RP I love doing in EU4. It's a great balance of doing things because it's optimal for gameplay and doing things because it makes for a cool alt-history. I also absolutely love imagining the cultural syncretisms that would emerge in these multi-cultural empires, and I really wish vanilla EUIV had something more like Imperator Rome's religion blending and Crusader Kings 3's cultural melding. It's honestly the only way I could have more fun with vanilla EUIV without absolutely enormous overhauls to core mechanics.

  • A great video for a great civilization. Due to their insular nature, the Incas are especially interesting to compare to civilizations all through the world: what kind of social systems they developed, and how different and similar they were from those from other continents. And the fact that you're playing MEIOU is a delight too.

  • When you're having an inca history test next week but too lazy to study: Joking aside, this is surprisingly informative. I was under the impression that this was just another role play session, but in a historical retelling aspect. What i was not expecting was the amount of real-world history tib bit sprinkle all over this video

  • This was so cool. Thank you for making it. Idea for the next one, if you convert a CK2 save to EU4 but have the Sunset Invasion DLC enabled, it will generate a secret OP Aztec Empire in the Americas. A video where the Aztecs colonize Europe would be a lot of fun.

  • Blessed timeline, can't wait for more Americas content! It is not true that the Andeans had no idea about sea travel though. They had large ships, hell, the first Quechua person the Spaniards met was a crewmate on a native ship! There's also the story of Yupanqui sailing off for an expedition into the western islands. None of these would be possible without large ships... Mesoamericans also made use of copper and bronze, but that's a minor nitpick lol

  • For some reason, I heard comparisons of Inca state and policies with Communist ones, mainly because of command economy, assignments of labor duties on a large-scale population groups and so on. Though I personally believe that on such managerial similarities the comparison ends. And it's really funny that, according to story of this video, Age of Imperialism essentially started with the very Incas and their strive for total domination in South America. Nevertheless, I would disagree on the notion of supposed Inca belief of their relation to other Amerindians: those are pagans, has absolutely no relation in culture or language to Quechua people (and linguistics of South America natives is a special kind of Charlie Foxtrot) and refuse to modernize in a way it was done by Inca elites. I even could suppose that for some time - namely, after modernization efforts were secured - those very elites could aspire for becoming even more European than Europeans themselves. And after one or two generations of such ideas, doubled with the very European arrogance and perception of Incas as "still barbarians", such phylia would turn to phobia and lead us to that very imperialism of late game. Reminds me of Japanese expansionism, though. On the video itself - great as always, will wait for other such stories. Especially such as this, based on MEIOU - I did try to play it, but my PC just cannot handle it's satiated contents, but MEIOU makes EU 4 much more... "realistic", I would say. The only thing I would like you to improve is pronunciation. To know proper spelling of word you may use dictionaries (such as Wiktionary - English is preferable, Cambridge one and so on), Forvo (you may find there examples of pronunciations) and, in general, it's very useful in trying to read foreign texts with knowledge of IPA and how to decipher it's symbols.

So Spanish won't be the main inspiration source for this Quechua script but it would more likely be German and Italian with lot more of freedom since the culture is more isolated and is autonomous. So i represent things in three columns, otl quechua - ttl quechua - ipa A a - A a - æ/ɑ (Ä) ä - A a - æ (to indicate that a is /kæ/ not /qɑ/ C c - Ch ch - tʃ Ch ch - Chh chh - tʃʰ Cc cc - Ch' ch' - tʃʼ E e - I i(/E e) - e/ɛ Gl gl - Ll ll - ʎ Gn gn - Ñ ñ - ɲ H h - H h - h I i - I i - ɪ J j - Y y - j K k - K k/Q q - k/q depending on the following or preceding vowel Kh kh - Kh kh/Qh qh - kʰ/qʰ depending on the following or preceding vowel Kk kk - K' k'/Q' q' - kʼ/qʼ depending on the following or preceding vowel M m - M m - m N n - N n - n O o - U u(/O o) ɔ P p - P p - p Ph ph - Ph ph - pʰ Pp pp - P' p' - pʼ (Q) q - Q q - q used for end of syllables only (Qh) qh - Qh qh - qh (Qq) qq - Q' q' - qʼ R r - R r - ɾ S s - S s - s T t - t t - t Th th - Th th - tʰ Tt tt - T' t' - tʼ U u - U u - ʊ V v - W w - w X x - Sh sh - ʃ Examples: Kecua - Quechua Tavantinsuju - Tawantinsuyu Inka - Inca Tampu Ttuko - Tampu T'uqu Kosko - Cusco Vajna Khapaq - Huayna Capac Virakoca - Viracocha Mama Kigla - Mama Killa Cinkansuju - Chinchansuyu Kuntinsuju - Cuntinsuyu Koglasuju - Collasuyu Antisuju - Antisuyu Huksi käska huk macucapivan pajaca. - Huksi kasqa huk machucha-piwan payacha.
