Soul Calibur II Opening FMV
Remastered in 4K using ESRGAN [AI Machine Learning]
ESRGAN is an AI Neural Network software that is capable of upscaling and reconstructing low-resolution images, while retaining most of their elements and details intact.
I took the original video files from the Soul Calibur II PS2 disk, and used ESRGAN with the Manga109 training model to upscale the videos 4 times their original resolutions…
The results are beautiful.
Original resolution: 640x368
ESRGAN Upscale: 2560x1472
We need to appreciate the time and effort it took Nightmare in full-clad armour, carrying a sword bigger than his body, to climb up that rock and pose like an absolute madman
Just to shout “SOULS! NEED MORE SOULS” like alright buddy we get it you’re built different
Do u have ps3 hdo
*absolute legend
He just jumped once and landed there
The ground around eroded from failed challengers...
This was the best version of Nightmare
I liked SC4 as well
@@jetnebula7915 SC4 had awesome character design, and was an immensely fun game. Too bad it wasn't viable for competitive play though
Either this or SC3
Like not even "SC2 Nightmare is the best Nightmare". These *specific twenty seconds* of Nightmare are the best Nightmare.
This intro was way ahead of its time
PERIOD
the hell does that even mean?
@@Pan_Z it means full stop in american.
They don’t make good fighting game intros like this no more T-T
@@dasetman bold of you to assume he's American :D
No matter how many times I played this game I couldn't skip this epic intro
Yeah. This intro still holds up. And now that video game intros are rarely a thing anymore, it’s safe to say this is probably one of the best video game intros of all time.
I never got the idea that there's no more intros
this game was several years ahead of its time
@@tomr6866 the game, the music, the intro, omg and the graphics too!
The music, introduction to the characters coming back, a story being told, fight scenes, new guest character scene. Still one of the best intros in gaming history imo.
Bro sc 4 had the best intro
I find it interesting looking back at successful older games. There's so much vision and polish that most games nowadays fail to capture.
Late 90s early 00s era intros are undefeated
"What's your favorite character in SC2?" "Heihachi Mishima"
Kilik.
Maxi
Truly unfortunate how 6 is just filled with dark loading screens. Though I am happy they brought back Setsuka.
Why i always found you in a comment
To be fair they apparently had a small budget. 6 was basically their chance to prove to Namco that Soul Calibur was worth the trouble after the shit that was 5. Thankfully, they pulled off a pretty damn good game
So your main is Setsuka, i found her as a much more of a waifu material just like Taki and Ivy
Overall, I give praise to some of the roster (including their movesets, and how they look), the atmosphere, the spirit, the art direction, the music, and MAJOR props to the gameplay. It does a good job *feeling* like Soul Calibur, and does give out those Soul Calibur vibes. I’d rate it maybe a B+ But here’s what I think makes SC6 inferior to SC2 or SC3; SC2 and SC3 each had a massive array of things to do, there were lots of different modes to play, it was fun unlocking stuff, it was fun experimenting with the different weapons, and they just overall had more depth. That’s my main issue with the new one, there’s simply not enough modes or content if you will (which equates to having a lower replay value. If SC6 had more content, I’d be playing it a lot more often).
LITERALLY all it needs is the guy saying "Soul Calibur 2" after the logo appears.
Do u have hdo for ps3
I haven't thought about this in at least 15 years, I can STILL remember SOULCALIBUR ... 2! I love life
It needs Link instead of Heihachi.
My absolute favorite SC intro. Thanks looks great
i'm preffer sc 3
Daniel Player you are undigested
SC2 Nightmare is easily his most most iconic appearance. No other comes close.
I think Sc Broken Destiny Had His Armor Parts
Still gives me chills, it's just so epic, makes me wanna play again
Man, this just took me way back and regained me old strength. Thank you for restoring this masterpiece of art.
The intros were amazing hate that they got lazy and 6 dont even have an intro at all.
Actually 6 has an intro. But its story and its not the quality of this great introduction. Its not that they are lazy but Bamco has tried several times to kill off Soulcalibur in favor of Tekken so for SC5 and 6 both have received lower budgets. This is why I keep telling people to support Soulcalibur 6 otherwise Bamco gets what they want. They don't see the value of both fighting games earning them bucks.
6 is an anthology and retelling on the first game. An intro isnt needed.
@@haydenbennett3547 I disagree. Without an intro people aren't hooked with an awesome presentation. Sure SC6 has a lot of trailers and gameplay footage but it was the intros of the old that intrigued us into this world and its characters. It would help SC6 pick up a little more with a good intro like how Souledge, SC2, SC3, and SC4 had them.
Soulblade was the only one in the series with a dope intro.
@@ReaveIdono yeah but soulblade hasnt aged well
This is still my favorite opening in the whole series
I first played this game 16 years ago and I’ve only just realised that Necrid didn’t drop that Soul Edge shard into his hand. He dropped a DECAPITATED HEAD HOW DID I MISS THAT? Also, goddamn I love this intro so so much this game is a video game masterpiece.
Same for me, thanks for that one :D
Omg how did I miss that 😭 I’ve been watching this intro for years and I’ve never thought to question what that was what the hell
I love this intro so much. Music, scenes, everything...
this is amazing, for some reason i thought it was the Gamecube version with Link I'd see, lol. still, quite impressive, brings back memories!
The best intro from the Soul series after the legendary SoulBlade intro.
They don’t make awesome FG intros like this no more
Soulblade's may very well be the best intro of all time.
None of the other intros even come close to Soulblade. Not even any other fighting game.
Back then SC2 game intro is ahead of time, tragically today SC6 intro and story scene are way behind today's standard.
and gameplay too
@@Dinnoco Especially the unfinished gameplay.
1:55 I wanna learn how to use that move with Taki lmao
me too
Same. I also wanted to perform that move but I don't think it's in the command list lol. I have a theory that this move is a critical edge move or at least a precursor to it although it's impossible in regular gameplay in SC 2. The reason it wasn't included might be due to hardware limitations during that time and console generation. Namco has included a similar looking move in SC 6 for Taki (like in the video below). kzhead.info/sun/ddx8l5Rwp2uVdK8/bejne.html
It's easy. Just get Din's Fire from the fairy near Hyrule Castle.
Same feeling I had watching Charade's Weapon Demonstration. "I wanna fly like that!"
that’s that hidden leaf village shadow clone jutsu fr
thanks for doing this man, I still think about this intro ALL the time. One of the best for sure.
1:47 that Smile of Ivy 😍💯❤️
That really IS impressive! Real reconstructed image, not some gimmicky upscaled crap i expected at first. Wanna see what it can do to SH2/3 FMVs!
this is upscalling. the description not only states this is an upscaling AI, but that they upscaled 4 times the resolution to achieve theses results
@@LanthusV I think he just means when people take a video and render it in 1080p and call it HD like when KZhead first added HD. People did it just for the views
@@LanthusV it also states *reconstructing*. traditionally 4 times upscaled picture won't look like a hi res source.
The song name is "under the star of destiny"
This intro is a masterpiece
Soul Caliber and Tekken at their peak. We were spoiled for fighting game intros.
Thanks for this. One of my all-time favourites. 4K is how it has always looked in my head lmao.
Man this look dope... Sc3 next?
Done: kzhead.info/sun/kpR6gbFurayOpas/bejne.html
My favorite parts of the SoulCalibur 2 intro are Cassandra, Kilik and Talim.
This is probably the greatest opening in video game history. I have seen this more than a hundred times and I’m still amazed by it.
Nightmare and Taki were my mains in this game.
Same! and Talim too
this is so impressive !! i remember playing this when I was really young, but i wish soul calibur 6 was a little more reminiscent of the old games like this one :(
In terms of cinematics and epicness, this and the intro cinematic from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are the best opening sequences I've ever seen (and probably ever will see, with the deteriorating state of modern game "intros").
my favorite intro for all SC games...love the nightmare scene! SC2 got the best nightmare design.
Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 2 openings are GOATed. No other intros get me more hype than these. Nightmare at the end is simply the most epic especially with the climactic thunder in the background. Reminds me of Guts from Berserk in his armor.
Absolutely amazing.
Yooo, my childhood in HD!!!
As a long Tekken fan, Heihachi sits at home with me! Unpopular opinion, Heihachi fits the mold in the Soul Calibur universe. His primary outfit (not the karate gi) has a historical resemblance.
Chills...literal chills...
I love the overall premise of this game. After the events of the first game (at the end of the first game, Nightmare and Soul Edge got defeated by Kilik and Xianghua. They were sucked into Astral Chaos, Inferno’s realm. The evil energy of Inferno and the realm caused the Krita-Yuga, Xianghua’s sword, to reveal itself as Soul Calibur. Inferno was defeated but Xianghua had to leave Soul Calibur behind to save Kilik), Soul Edge got severely damaged and it’s shards were spread across the world. For a little bit, Siegfried reclaimed his own mind, but despite his best efforts to escape the manipulation of Soul Edge, the evil sword took over his body in his sleep. Over time, Soul Edge rebuilt itself enough to the point of where Siegfried got fully possessed again. He ended up taking the helm of Nightmare once more. In this game, which takes place four years after Soul Calibur 1, Nightmare (as Siegfried) tries to get more shards to strengthen the weakened Soul Edge (as shown in the ending of the intro). Everyone else in the roster has their own goals that often tie into Soul Edge, Nightmare, and it’s shards. There’s the premise of Soul Calibur 2.
Now you know the Soul Calibur 2 intro is so badass!
This is mind meltingly good
Whoa the classic is breath taking 😲
Impressive results indeed. This looks just like in my HD-nostalgia-memories
Great work! wish you kept the "Soul Calibur twoo" part at the end tho. SC 2 still remains my fav out of the series
This is looking great! You should try it on the Ps1 Tomb Raider's intro cutscene, wonder how it would look like after.
I already did some tests and the results looked amazing: imgur.com/a/aeCNiL6 I'll upload the videos soon.
i remember me and my dad would spend hours on this game...i miss those moments
Holy crap, that's amazing.
@Shaman Xeed no u
This intro is my childhood. Always loved playing Xianghua and Cassandra in this game.
It's amazing that games actually look like this real time now
Holy shit this looks incredible.
de los pocos intros de juegos de pelea que hasta la fecha me siguen gustando.. de echo desde que salió busque el tema principal y hasta la fecha es parte de mi playlist.....
Happy 20th anniversary of soul calibur 2
SCII continues to hit different
This gabe me chills.
Cassandra looks so raw
A NEW CHALLENGER COMES!
The chord progression and accelerando/crescendo which comes to a boil when Mitsurugi cut that geezer's gun in half, gave me chills, so f*ckin' sick! Mitsurugi; proving that the era of the Samurai, isn't over just yet. This intro is so frickin' good. Also, Nightmare from SCII has the best Nightmare character design in the entire series in my opinion, absolutely terrifying looking figure. Thank you for posting this.
Goosebumps.
Thank you for this i got nostalgic chills
Back when Soul Calibur was fun
This is still my favorite
Greatest video game intro of all time, without a doubt. Nothing comes close
Amazing.
Still my favorite 😻
Excellent!
So fucking unbelievably dope
I know it's a very minor change so probably not worth another two videos but any plans to do the Xbox and Gamecube versions of this intro? If I remember right they have changes based on the guest characters (Spawn and Link) in those two versions. Anyway, awesome video :)
That's just wild! That's one SMART A.I.!
Still the best Majestic looking Nightmare EVERRR!!!!
THIS INTRO ❤
Ivy: that's a face only a father possessed by Soul Edge could hate.
You could get this clarity if you had the Gamecube version using the expensive component cables. Looks absolutely gorgeous.
this is amazing and i love it! thanks for making this! but one this puts me off, why not remove the black bars before uploading? we're in 2020, youtube videos shouldnt need or have them anymore..
Aged like fine wine
Definitely my second favorite in the franchise
Dang this looks beautiful, this was the reason why i loved SC in the first place but i played on the GameCube version not this one.
Awesome, perfect job. Any chance of doing the opening of Soul Edge?
Best fighting game of all time.
I don't know if you take requests, and I don't know if it's already been done, but dear god this was amazing and I would BEG you to do Dead or Alive Ultimate's Opening.
2:05 Mitsurugi beat the matchlock rifle.
The best on the series for me
THAT MUSICAL COMPOSITION THOUGH!!!!!!
Best one.
Ok... I got the tingles.
Mitsurugi's scene was something!
@Villet Chuckie lmfao!!!
The best soulcalibur
Damn machine learning be balling
that's...impressive
Nightmare what a BOSS
Soulcalibur 2 is the best game in history with the 1, whatever they say, the years have done it justice, we will never see a game this complete with that gameplay and story, it was legendary, without a doubt, the best in the saga from 3 onwards, they are garbage xc success a remake of this masterpiece for the new consoles 🎮😎👌
I figured the goal of modern consoles is to make character models look like their cg ps2 ganecube xbox cutscenes
I wish someone does one of these for the Berserk ps2 game, it's cutscenes and intro was in 480i only x.x
Oh wow 🙂
❤️👍 nostalgie
Heihachi had no business being in Soul Calibur 2.
Well, he IS another Namco character, and his choice of weapons, straight up fists, haven't appeared since this game I believe. Really, none of the guest characters have any business looking for Soul Edge.
@@liamanderson7082 Link did. He believed that Aghanhim was possessed by it, so went to look for the source. That's why the Hero of Time didn't appear in Wind Waker, so the Hero of Winds was born.
@@dadladtv8321 Soul Calibur II isn't in Zelda canon. - Agahnim came from Link to the Past, well after the Hero of Time's... Time. His beef is with the Hero of Legend. - Agahnim is just an alter ego to Ganon, who'd have no need of Soul Edge anyway, with the Triforce at his disposal. Why make a gamble with a mind-wiping demon with the power of gods already suiting his desires, with no such trade-off? This other wizard is likely unrelated. - The Hero of Time is gone not because he hunted down Soul Edge, but because adult Zelda sent him to the past to warn Hyrule of Ganondorf's plot. That's why he isn't there when the gods have to flood Hyrule. - The "Hero of Souls" here may physically take after the Hero of Time's design, but isn't really him. That was just the definitive Link look at the time, so it got used here. I might be forgetting some points.
Fave in the series. Got to meh afterwards, 3 is an exception. But 2 was amazing. I had it for xbox and had spawn
Thank you for posting, but the beautiful ending is interrupted by suggestions of your chanel
