I count myself among those new fans, having discovered this artist with the Contrabendo CD+DVD (my first music purchase in two years), and I REALLY regret I didn't discover this true bluesman and rocker earlier.

Contrabendo is an AMAZING disc, bundled with CD and DVD, and it doesn't belong to Universal or some other fucking Big Company. Unfortunately, finding Contrabendo on sale has become excessively difficult, it's not even on streaming platforms, so I will look the other way if you resort to less legal venues cough

Besides Calvin Russell, and for the entire album (no Soldier-specific information was available), there are Jeff Gautier (drums), Fred Payonne (bass), Eric Sauviat (guitar, vocal), Gabriel (Gabe) Rhodes (guitar), and Markus Bommer (keyboards, vocal). Paul Personne plays in the disc, but not in that song, in another one, Behind The 8 Ball.
I never knew this wonderful musician until 3 wks ago, when I came across this song.,but to know he passed after is rather tragically sad. What a great voice... Lyrics in the song, musical arrangement, but more so that I never listened to him when he was alive. RIP great man.

Never had the oportunity to see him perform live, but the music he left us tells me of a great human being with all the sins and blessings one can do in a lifetime... A true warrior in his heart gave me the strength to overcome a lot of difficulties in my time. This song particulary inspires me to be a better man. I saw many of his concerts in Paris, when he was touring for his first, second and third album. Met him a couple of times. He signed all my CDs with some nice words for me. A great, great musician and very humble person. His music has accompanied me since. Listening to soldier very often when driving to work. He passed away too soon. I remember Calvin because I have been present at one of his live concerts in Oberwangen, Canton Thurgau in Switzerland about 10 or more years ago, where I bought from him the CD SAM which he signed personally for me and my wife. To my opinion he was a very kind, sympatic and decent person which I have never met again. Moreover I remember his extraordinary deep full voice and of course his simple guitar play during the whole evening which I will never forget.
