  • For those talking this down, let's not forget the fact that almost everyone hated the original X6 (E71) when it came out in 2012, which went on to insane success and created an entirely new car segment that has been emulated by all the top manufacturers. I personally loved and still do. SO much so that I have the current G06 (wasn't a fan of the F16 though). But yeah, see original X6 reviews here: kzhead.info/sun/dd5_j9ZxgZ2sdZE/bejne.html kzhead.info/sun/Zpp-pbiFgYCvdps/bejne.html Back to the XM, I particularly don't love it per se. But there's a chance I may end up getting one (or a future version of it) some day. For now, I'll keep my '22 X6M Competition at least until 2028 and then see how and where this has evolved to by then. But like others here, I think I like it just a little better every day, though that's very different from the immediate love-at-first-sight experience I had for the X6 10+ years ago!

  • I was at my BMW dealer getting my X7 serviced yesterday. They had a few of these on the lot. I looked at the one in the showroom. I love the concept of the vehicle the styling is what’s taking getting used to. I purchased a new x7 last summer before the redesigned ones came out. I purchased an x7 in 2019. The styling was controversial and I purchased a new one to avoid the split headlights and lack of switches in the cabin. I guess change is a big part of their plans vs slight tweaks Mercedes is doing.

  • Nice review. This is the first objective XM test. Excellent point about the XM being a rolling testbed. Almost everything BMW does right now is experimentation, with the exception of their bread-and-butter models (3, 5, X3, X5). Not enough speed? Wait for the Red Label. This one is just an appetizer. Looks? Everyone said the same thing about the e66 7-series by Bangle, which then went on to be the highest selling luxury sedan in history. Within five years, every manufacturer was copying the Bangle butt. Mercedes still hasn't figured out what to do with car rear end design, since then. BMW fan boys need to get over the e46 M3, and realize that it's 2023, and car companies are in business to make $. Remember the fugly Porsche Cayenne that saved Porsche? Pure marketing decision. BMW doesn't need saving, but to continue racing and making cars like the M5 CS, or the M3 CSL, that are not profitable, sometimes marketing wins the discussion. Also, the XM isn't targeted at the broke-ass-whiner demographic. Not even close. Try getting one. Every single allocation at any dealership in a 500-mile radius from me is pre-paid sold out for the entire year. If that doesn't nail it, what does? Does every BMW have to drive like a 20 year-old M3?

    @mspeed2441@mspeed2441 Жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely! BMW are going to sell a boatload of these per year at profit on every unit, as opposed to maybe limited units a year if they'd produced a direct 2-seater M1 successor. Like most BMW designs you recoil when you first see the design, but then it totally grows on you. The XM as well as the M3/M4 are my favourite-looking cars of any manufacturer at the moment. BMW keep fearlessly pushing the design envelope. It's amazing to witness

  • At first look I thought this vehicle was ugly with that front end and rakish (almost Corvette) lines but when you showed it in other colors it looked better. I’ve brought this up before but the growing weights of these vehicles are amazing me. 6,000+ lbs! How are the tire manufacturers keeping up? They are limited to 4 wheels so each tire is having to accept more and more weight. Where is the limit? What are the tire companies doing to make sure their products can safely handle this obesity? Thank you, sir!

    @mikemaslanka3786@mikemaslanka3786 Жыл бұрын
    • Great question: The tire manufacturers are now tightly integrated into the development of new vehicles at a much earlier stage. Previously, this was only limited to high performance cars but now most do this. The first one to do this was the C4 WAYYYY back in the day.

  • Motoman, great review! May I add, that indeed the XM designation used from Citroen, they had a car model called XM in the old days... Indeed its true, of what you said, the Bavarians called the French and asked permission to use the XM... they got it. Also, there are rumors here in Europe that the French gave them the idea about the hybrid system. Here in Europe car manufacturers have no enough batteries, like Tesla, so they are making up all kinds of hybrid systems..... Good job Motoman! Good to see you!

Two things: I actually like the look of many (though not all) current generation BWMs, including the 4 series, but this, despite its lovely interior and details, just looks ungainly! Two, it's absurdly large and heavy. A misstep by BMW.

    • Range and acceleration stats dont mean anything for the potential customer of this car (4 seconds 0-60 or under is fun enough). This is like saying a mediocre VW Golf R is better than a Mercedes S500 cause it has a quicker 0-60. You have to take into account exclusivity and build quality. The Tesla interior consists of just a screen and flat lines (reduce production costs) with cheap materials everywhere, also the Model Y is just good on straight line. This BMW can handle better than a Tesla despite its weight. Also all the Tesla Performance models have poor braking performance for how quick they are, people are forced to buy larger aftermarket brakes. Teslas are good when it comes to electric efficiency compared to other electric cars but you have to think of Teslas as an electronic device you use to go from A to B and anything more than that. BMW always tries its best to deliver a good driving experience, taking into account brakes, suspension, balance, interior materials, build quality etc...

  • For the money, the M division could've made this thing like the F-Pace. They could've made it good looking. Also, I'm really annoyed with the short range when driving in EV mode. BMW should unlock the top end and bottom end of the battery to allow for a fuller charge, thus a longer range. When the battery needs to be replaced, do it. I think used battery pack buy-back programs are going to become a massive business opportunity. Once EV/plug0in hybrid owners get money back for their used battery packs, they can put that money toward a new battery pack. When plug-in vehicle owners know they can get a new battery pack for not that much money, who is really gonna care about babying the battery pack anymore?

  • Guys, this is an appalling vehicle. I'm so confused by the fact that this XM, and the M4 CSL, are supposed to be BMW's flagships. The M5 CS and M2 CS aside (I would love to add the new M3 to the list but can't given its beaver teeth), this dang company has lost its mission, trailblazing straight into uncharted design territory and hoping old fans follow. We'll see. Their old faithfuls (I'm 28 years old and consider myself one of those people) are moving elsewhere. Yet allegedly XM order books are full already? Crazyy. Nothing against people who buy these, everybody's got their own taste, but the first time I see one of these on the street, and the owner steps out of it, I think I'll know exactly what kind of person they are.

It's a good SUV but more like a niche product if that makes sense? But for me way to heavy, I don't want to drive a factory on wheels, you can mask weight only so much with technology.
