HOW TO HIT YOUR IRONS PURE WITH THIS SIMPLE DRILL

If you're wondering how to hit your irons pure, I have a simple drill for you. Literally, within 10 minutes of doing this drill you'll be striking your irons more solidly and consistently than ever.
Please visit the link below and I will send you free samples from my Body Swing book and video series: bodyswing.com/freesamples/
So many people struggle when hitting irons which is costing them a ton of shots. This drill is not about hitting down on the ball. It is not about forward shaft lean through impact. It's not about changing your grip or anything else. You may have tired those things in the past and they don't work because they have you hitting the ball with your arms.
If you want to hit your irons pure you need to stop doing all of those things. This best drill for irons and it's totally different to anything you have ever tried in the past.
The next time you're at the range give this a try. I need you to tee up your ball. Take out a mid iron and hit a whole bucket of balls doing this drill. Then adjust as I explain in the tip as you get better at it.
Correction: 6:48
Here I said squeeze against the ground. Should be squeeze against the clubface.

  • One of the best drills I've experienced. I purchased your Body Swing series a couple months back and have seen major improvement. Forgetting the strong grip and transitioning to a neutral grip was probably the hardest habit to break at 58 years old, however, I'm seeing more consistency with my shots. Still working on the loose wrist and hitting my irons pure. Thanks for all your help!

    • Thanks for the support. Glad you are starting to get it. Glad you are doing the neutral grip now. This is a game changer for sure but it does take work. Stay focused and try to perfect each lesson. Just do this daily at home. This is one of the biggest issues people have. They don't do swings daily.

I tried your choke up, hinge technique and hit EVERY SINGLE ball in the bucket solid and straight! Today I shot a 41 in my league, including inches fro a hole in one. This is ALL from watching your videos! Thank you so much for completely changing my game! For anyone reading this - watch Paul's videos, the ONLY training that works! Thank you so much Paul!

  • I seriously think you’re one of the very few pros in the world who actually understand and are able to teach how to hit a golf ball. So many pros are obsessed with body angles and positions, they forget all about what the club head is supposed to do at impact. Thank you!!! Soft wrists and hands are absolute key. I think so many pros and good golfers have no idea why they’re able to hit a golf ball. But for those of us who aren’t naturals, your advice is the missing link of golf instruction!

  • 5:35 - At the range I did one swing strictly hinge/rehinge with very little lower body action, just to see what would happen. The ball went about 83% of my normal distance with a little pull fade. Absolutely amazing. For those people who top it, fat it, don't make contact, or can't get it down the fairway, this one change would immediately lower their handicap by 10 strokes, maybe more!

    • Thanks. Not sure why everyone thinks they have to hang up the clubs. Doing practice swings at home is the best way to work on your swing. No ball means no distraction of you trying to hit it. If there is no distraction you can make the changes over the winter then play great golf next season as opposed to not practicing then working on it next season when you should be playing great golf. I have literally taught this for years. It's just getting everyone to do it. Just take out a 7 iron and having sitting there. Do daily practice swings doing some of the stuff in my tips and it will be mastered by next season.

  • Finally, a sound explanation of what hitting down on the ball means. I've always had this tip in the back of my mind (with my arm swing) with the end result usually being a turf-size divot I could roll out on my own lawn. Now that I have been practicing this drill, coiling-recoiling with a body swing, I can feel the club 'getting into correct position' (aka hitting down) immediately before ball strike.

    • Glad you liked it. Thanks. This is the key. Too many people out there just whacking away as hard as they can. This tightens the wrists and can get you manipulating the face. Just need to let it go. This loosens the wrists so you get way more clubhead speed with no effort. This clubhead speed is for life because you don't have to be strong to be loose. Plus, if you aren't hitting you allow the forces to act on the mass almost eliminating any face twisting. Might want to watch this one too. • Well, I have always thought about this. For well over the first 10 years of teaching I would analyze the students reaction to what I was saying. I was thinking what are they hearing as I say it. If it didn't register I would discard it. This is why I say things the way I say them. Everything has been tested with thousands of students. The main thing holding people back that no one even talks about is human nature. I talk about it here: kzhead.info/sun/mdmIetyulmRoe6M/bejne.html It affects everything you do in a golf swing. Need to go against it. Until then, you will never get it.

  • After watching a bunch of Paul’s videos, I’ve come to the conclusion that most if not all of swing problems have to do with “trying” to hit the ball. When you try to hit the ball, you are using your arms, and that leads to widely inconsistent shots. The most helpful swing thought for me is the “hinge-unhinge”. This forces you to use your body and leads to an effortless swing. Thanks Paul

    @SchillerDuval@SchillerDuval3 жыл бұрын
    • You got it. This is so true. Now who wants to hit with arms? Almost everyone. This is why almost everyone needs help with their swing. Pros don't hit solely with the arms. Pros learned as kids when they had minimal arm strength. See it now? Hinge - rehinge is a huge part of it. You get that working then connected to coil - uncoil. Simple.

  • 3:11 - That is so good. I'm just now formulating in my mind, that we are swinging the club between hinged at the top, and unhinged 2 feet past the ball. There is no point in between that should get special attention. Whatever lies along that path, between those 2 points, is on a collision course with the club-face. It really is a different way of thinking about the golf swing!

  • Paul, love your videos and found this one especially helpful. Tried it on the range yesterday and it was just like you said. Loose wrists resulted in a nice ball flight. Might try this during today’s round on a couple shots at our club that are always tough for me. Still not sure, even after watching a few times, exactly why this drill works. Is it simply having a little of the club weight above your hands enough to feel different? Thanks again and keep up the good work.

  • Paul thank you for the easy to understand videos and explanations, I've watched about and I've finally found where I was making my errors and why I haven't been able to make progress. I've only been been playing gold for about 2 years now, a friend taught me a bit of the basics before he moved so I've been playing on my own with what he left me and from watching others and after my fourth time on the course I decided I won't play on a course until I'm satisfied with my swing at the driving range, unfortunately life keeps you busy at times and couldn't go hit the balls as much as I'd like to and I was advised against watching 'how to' videos because everyone is different and would just confuse a beginner because of all the steps and I agree... Luckily I realised a while back that golf isn't about how hard you hit the ball but I couldn't figure out why my club/driver face kept opening and now I know, I don't hinge I tense up instead as well as not using my hips and legs and following through and a few other things thats wrong with my foundation that I'm looking forward to improving so thank you and I look forward to watching your other videos and putting them into practice... Apologies for the essay

    • Very good. Glad you finally help you. Too many people are teaching to hit that ball. In no way would I ever tell you to do that. Your wrists are a hinge. A hinge hinges and rehinges. A hinge is loose. The harder you hit, the tighter the hinge. Then connect it to your body coiling and uncoiling.

    • Thanks. You can do this but I would be concerned about loosening up. I would be doing this drill at home in practice swings loosening up your wrists. Here is now to beat your friends. When you get to the course you hit only 25 balls. When you hit them DO NOT aim for a target. DO NOT care where the balls go. In fact just hit it and don't even watch it. Once you hit your 25 balls go putt and chip. Now you will step on the first tee with no expectations.

  • Something I would never would have thought like gripping all the way down on the club .......made such a drastic positive impact on my irons.

  • “Yeah you will be hitting your irons pure” Paul I like how you simplify it! You are also so convincing it instills confidence. I’m also laughing because your examples and descriptions of our mistakes are spot on, almost as if we played a round together. If you ever do a clinic on Oahu I’m there. 🤙🏾

    • Exactly. It is truly mind boggling what people do and don't do. I have a few students from Hawaii. Never been there. It is on my list though.

  • I have been working with a coach here in Indiana - doing this very drill! It's amazing how it works. I have not been playing very long, about 1.5 years. You have helped me a lot Paul. The guy I'm working with now - has gotten me pretty close to having a nice swing. Thank you Paul

    • Thanks so much. I am actually working on a few things right now so I'm a bit of a work in progress. Will smoothen it out more once I trust it. If it looks easy why complicate it?

  • For the past few months I have really struggled with making solid contact with my irons. I stumbled upon this video last night. Took this drill to the range before my round. BAM best round in months. It is so simple and easy. Did not lose much distance at all gripping down. But shots were much more pure. Also used this technique on my hybrids I actually hit them longer. So glad I found this video. I will not implement this drill into my forever practice routine. Thank you Paul
