Skanderbeg - The Dragon of Albania (Part 4)
In this episode of Skanderbeg, we cover when the League of Lezhë was reunited under the umbrella of King Alfonso V of Naples in 1454. However, a year later, the League would yet again crumble after the Arbër League suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Berat in 1455. Despite the devestating loss at Berat, but also disloyal members that had joined the Ottomans, Skanderbeg was left to fight the oncoming Ottoman army of around 60-80,000 soldiers at the battle of Albulena in 1457.

Great work. I'm partial to the Dukagjini family. As you know, the Venetian records' have a good amount of information on them and more-so than the other Princely families; you get good insight to their psyche. Given the amount of power Leke (III) Dukagjini and Skanderbeg had when they joined forces, Leke could've easily taken over many lands. The lands he does take or attempt to take had been in the Dukagjini family for generations. Now, in the hands of others. I have respect for that. I also feel the Dukagjini get flack, ultimately, when Leke and Skanderbeg work out their differences. They win (I believe) three battles in a row in a short period of time and Mehmed offers a peace deal. Before those triumphant victories it seemed Europe was expecting Skanderbeg's decline and or capitulation. Finally, in the 2nd Siege of Kruje (1467) I'm sure many know the story of Leke's "Embetha!" Even Skanderbeg didn't object.

I'm no pro on the subject, so here's my take, recently, there was a person from Syria claiming to be a descendant of the Dukagjini and Top Channel (gjurme; with marina mema) did a story about him. Although it is possible. The tomb of Dukaginzade Ahmed Pasha (he was even mentioned in Muzaka's memoir) is in Istanbul (I believe) he was a legitimate Dukagjini. Muzaka mentions him, .."The third daughter, Lady Chiranna (Arianiti), was married to Lord Nicholas Dukagjini. She was the only daughter among brothers, and gave birth herself to two sons. One died and the other turned Turk and became a pasha and a great commander of the sultan." The timing is right and even the Ottoman sources mentions him having a brother who died. Which makes me wonder if there was foul play. Anyway, I would bet that has to be him. If you can decipher his DNA (if that's even possible) a whole history is there. If that is him, he came from two princely bloodlines Dukagjini and Arianiti. Now, there is also an idea of "two" Dukagjini Bloodlines. Not sure how that would work. In the broad sense, though. I would make an educated guess and say that the current members of the 12 Albanian tribes, with the Gheg or medieval dialect, their traditions, etc. All come from either high ranking soldiers that fought with Skanderbeg and or are descendants of the few princely families that stayed in Albania instead of fleeing for italy or sicily. That's with all due respect.
i did not know before that dukagjini family betrayed dhe great hero. very disapointed now that i know this. i thought they were real albanians but aperently thay werent.
My origin is Albanian too, my grant parents moved to England 1900 from southern Italy. My dad used to explained me our family origin, opposite Italy east where big and longest river in regions between mountains where eagles fly by and place was named Dibeur mean Wise man where Skanderbeg comes from too. That’s all I know, I wish know more and write a book about Eagles Land.

I'm curious as to why Skanderbeg couldn't take control of majority Albanian Kosovo, Macedonia, and Epirus?
Many reasons, but 2 main ones. 1. Ottomans had set up a base in Shkup (or Skopje) since the 14th century which cut off the Albanians of modern Macedonia off from the rest, which is why they also converted to Islam earlier then other Albanians. Since this worked, they did the same thing in Elbasan to cut off the northern Albanian Gegs from uniting with southern Tosk clans like Zenebishi, Shpata, Bua, etc. Effectively making the Albanian resistance only really a "central Albanian alliance" 2. Albanians hate each other. From clans to clans, Fan Noli wrote that even though they created the league of Lezha and supposedly had 10k troops, in reality Skanderbeg fought only with his own troops from the Dibër-Mat-Ndërfan region that he could trust, numbering usually 3k to 4k. If we could actually unite from Balsha to Bua, you would be learning about the Albanian Empire today, instead we became victims.

You are correct. Vrana never betrayed Skanderbeg. However, Mois Golemi did, but was later paraden by Skanderbeg. As for his nephew Hamza, he was never pardoned. After Hamza was captured by Skanderbeg, he was later ransomed back to the sultan by Naples.
Even when the ottomans want to make a big deal with Vrana he didn’t betray Skanderbeg. The familiy of Vrana still exist in Italy - Branai-Kastrioti - In Italy the Kastriotis and the descends from Vrana married together. They were very respected in Napoli.

He surpassed any "Turkish teachings" he consistently defeated Turkish armies of 80-120k with 5-8k . Ottomans biggest strength wasnt their tactics, it was their numbers. When they lost 20k soldiers, they went and got 20k more from the middle east, north africa. Also the Ottomans realized Albanian superiority in combat, which is why they started recruiting them, they would say 1 Albanian soldier is worth 5 regular troops. Your Turkish ancestors knew Albanians were the truest form of warriors. And id suggest u do a DNA test if youre a white Turk since 5-10 million Turks have Albanian origins. If your results come back haplogroup E-V13, R1b-M269, or J2b-L283 and it says "Greek and Balkan" which is the generic term they use, then youre Albanian by origin.
I agree he did surpass but with our teachings. If you look at Atilla's time same thing happened with the Roman General who was also our hostage. If you look at Skanderberg's father he lost easily because of the lack of military education. Look at the battle of Kosova the Turks one with Murat I, Albanians were there with the Bosnians, Serbs etc the result didn't change. Also I don't doubt there is Albanian heritage, I don't know how true it is but an Albanian guy once said Mustafa Kemal had roots to you as well which needs to be looked into to see if it is true. And no we dont hate Turks, Turkey is a big ally for Albania, most Albanians consider Turkey good friends. Albanians were a big reason why the Ottomans became so great, not only in soldiers and generals, but multiple grand viziers, etc. Albanian influence was in every corner of the empire and often times decided who the next Sultan would become/be killed. Kastriot comes from an Albanian corruption of Kastriotes, meaning “from the castle” Djordje is the Serbian corruption of Greek name Georgios, meaning “farmer”

And the kastrioti original surname was mazreku because the first noble of the kastrioti was named Constantine mazreku which means horsebreeder in Albanian.
