  • I know this comment will most likely get deleted, but these pearls are most likely mot from this mussel, and were more likely dyed. Pearls are rare and are the same color as the mussel’s nacre (the inside of their shell) The pearls were most likely harvested, then dyed, then returned back to the mussel. And pearls of that size would take a VERY long time to grow. Pearls are also not always very round, and most you see here are round.

    • I agree with everything you said. I have been all over the Internet, trying to get information on how they operate, how they get those strange colors, who they sell the pearls to, and are they growing them in a pearl farm it just looks like a bit of water. If you find out anything I would be so happy to know what they are doing. In the meantime, I just watch because it’s fascinating. Pearls are my birthstone, so I just like watching them anyway.

    • Actually that is not entirely true. Pearls come in many colours. It all depends on where they come from (which ocean or fresh water area) and what colours are in the make up of the shell. Most shells will have some pink, green, lavender, blue, cream, peach undertones in them along with the white, it's faint but it is there. You'll find fresh water pearls ranging from white to cream, pale pink, peach, green, blue, green with blue undertones, or blue with green undertones, lavender varying shades of grey, black and yes even varying shades of yellow and gold ( found in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines). Gold can occur naturally or can be from the way they are cultivated. Fresh water pearls are more often than not imperfectly shaped. Salt water cultivated pearls are naturally white, cream, grey, black, or brown with various overtones of pink, green, blue or lavender. Truly brightly coloured fresh water pearls are often dyed.
