    • Brent Sheffield your rollcart is top notch! Do the guys at the dealership bust your chops for having a GM box at a ford dealership? Haha

  • Other guys pick at me for taking such good care of my boxes and tools but they are more than just tools to me. My dad passed all of his down to me that he attained from the time he left the Navy when WW2 was over until he passed in 2014. They’re priceless to me. I plan to pass all mine down to my son one day. That’s also the main reason I try to buy mostly USA made tools. This guy apparently works in one of the few good dealerships left. It’s almost unheard of to find a technician that stays in one dealership that long anymore. I hope the dealership appreciate him because guys like him are few and far between. You should’ve asked him on camera how difficult it is to keep that white roll cart looking clean.

    • My tools are as special and important to me as a pro golfer's clubs are. I am no longer in the profession but I have tools that I bought in the 70s and as a ASE certified tech in the 80s. I keep everything organized and clean. My box (s) have been waxed numerous times throughout their life. When you make a living and rely on your tools to consistently work there is no substitute for quality. What alot of people do not understand is just how important it is that a tool not fail. Does not matter if it has a lifetime warranty, you can not afford for a tool to fail. It seems that is what everyone points to when comparing a Snap On, Matco, Mac tool to a cheaper brand. The key is never having to need the warranty. When your living is based on a book value of time breaking tools is directly affecting your wallet. It pays X time to perform the job, dosen't matter if you take twice as long, you still only make book value time. Of course you do have the convenience of the tool truck servicing you and are able to spread out the cost over time. Hell most techs have owed a tool truck money since they started working. That and it is only in recent years that you actually had options when buying quality tools. Home mechanics went with Craftsman and professionals bought from one of the tool trucks. Even today it seems that everybody and their brother compares their offerings to Snap On, there is a reason for that. Fortunately for many the interweb has made buying quality tools so much easier. Companies like Tekton offer a good quality product and have probably the best replacement warranty process in the business. Well as far as buying online.

    • @Antonio Orozco he doesn't need them. Until you're into medium duty you rarely need 3/4" drive and the shop likely has a set for when they do. He spends his money on what makes him money. $600 for a set of sockets you have at the shop and use once every three months isn't exactly a bright idea.

  • I have a fully restored 68 Firebird so that black box is awesome! But that box would look best next to 1977 Firebird Trans Am ( Smokey and the Bandit). On a side note, other than my 2 classic cars I have to say tools! And Firearms. My family first of course, then good friends . But after that its cars, tools and fine firearms.

  • I would love to pick Mr. Sheffield's brain. I can't imagine how much you could learn from someone like him! I'm a diy / hobbyist mechanic and I try and learn as much as I can. Its not often you find someone who knows how to do things the right way that you're able to learn from. Everyone shares their two cents but you can never replace someone with 20+ years of actual hands on experience and training.

We have about 30 techs now, but at one time, we had 50 techs!! Doing this in the South like we do sucks weatherwise 75 percent of the time, LOL. Hope you shop has AC! Our one does not, but a new facility is currently under construction! Been through everything from audits, ownership change, Manager change, pay plans, turnover, etc... But, still love mt job!! • Hi Clay, I've been watching your videos from the UK and I think they are really great! It's nice to see the passion you have for your profession and the tools! I bought my first Snap-on tool when I was 17 and fell in love with the whole experience. I moved to the medical world and have been a professional Paramedic for 30 odd years now but I still have my tools, Snap-on Master serious 'Isle of Man TT 100th anniversary' edition. I do think some things are over-priced but as you say - shop around, by MAC, Facom, Irwin - whatever is quality and suits your budget and the job. I treated myself to a 1/4 drive metric set for working on motorcycles just a couple of weeks ago. Stepping on the van took me back to when I was 17!! We don't have Matco here in the UK or Cornwell as far as I understand. Keep it up! Brent has a great Roll-cart and 'hats off' to the experience and qualifications he has acquired. I'm defo going to keep watching! My best mate from school ives in Houston so if we ever come to the U.S.A. I might pop in for a coffee!! ;-)

  • I'm with you and this master technician. I am converting all my flex head ratchets to Matco. The same reasons too. The Matco and snap on ratchets are nearly dead even regarding smoothness. But the Matco ratchets are slimmer, less bulky and the feel is better in my opinion. I like a comfort grip, not a soft grip like the snap on.
