The Incredible Story of the Milky Way [4K]

2024 ж. 16 Мам.
460 374 Рет қаралды

On the darkest of nights, free from the glow of the moon and the haze of light pollution, a stunning, striking formation can be seen imprinted upon the sky. That imprint is our galaxy- the Milky Way. Our galaxy is a giant, which extends for hundreds of thousands of light years. But by measuring the motions and velocities of the stars in our neighbourhood, both their past and future trajectories can be extrapolated- revealing the history of the Milky Way.

We (all life) are all just an amazing cosmic coincidence flying through a speck of dust through the cosmos, bound by the laws of our universe. I regularly rewatch so many of your videos and ASTRUM to remind myself that we're all so small and we're all in this together. That brings empathy. It may be one of the *harshest* environments to be, but it's still so pretty and calming to look at. Nothing bad will happen to us on a Universal Scale for billions of years, so it's nice every once in a while to sit back, and just watch the stars do their thing. And if one happens to explode, so be it. That just means that more stars and possibly planets will form from that gas cloud. Great video, lad. Loved every second of it.

  • Your videos are always well made and incredibly informative, but I think this is the first time in nearly three years of following this channel where I felt genuinely moved by the video. There's just something about seeing how those original progenitors came together to form our home, the whole of the milky way, that makes me appreciate just how fortunate we are to be here today. So many things had to go right for our galaxy to form the way it did, for our solar system to be able to form around our sun, for Earth to form in the exact right spot to support life, for us to be here watching this video now. Not to mention the fact that we are all here, now, at a time where we have the capability to study our galaxy with such astounding confidence and precision. Thanks for the video!

All of these blackholes, galaxies, stars and the like are unfathomly large, and so far away, it still baffles me we can discover things and tease out our galaxy's collisions long before our time, and another collision after our time. • Appreciate you work, SEA! It is engaging the young minds out there with science. Your efforts are to the noblest end there is, one single thing that made us who we are: the curiosity about and study of the Nature's ways. 🤩Globular clusters are full of surprises! They are dense, thus tightly bound gravitationally, stable, not easy to rip apart, and also ancient. Yet it was recently discovered that they are commonly deficient in dark matter. A new puzzle to solve: with their strong gravity and senior age, they should have held tight on it back from the times when everything, including DM, was much denser. 🌟This is a fascinating time for young folks to consider astrophysics! The datasets already collected are mindbogglingly immense, we hardly tackle their surface, even with the help of our still feeble AI. And, beyond JWST, there are a few much more sensitive space-based, Earth-based and radio telescopes already in the pipeline, with their ever swelling deluge of raw data. Much more data than the next generation of astrophysicists could be able to process, even with the fast-growing computing power and a tad lagging behind, but still advancing AI and sim algorithms. There are literally hundreds of Earth-shattering... no, Galaxy-shattering discoveries lying in wait to be revealed, up for grabs! 🌊Help! We're drowning in data, lend us your hand! If you're young and yet undecided who you want to become, or are working but thinking of a change, mark Her words: the Universe Herself calls on you to reveal Her majestic mysteries to you!

  • I absolutely love the content. I had always loved astronomy, even when I was a kid. I never pursued the path, but I sincerely wish I did. Your content not only shows us how insignificant we are but also educates us along the way our path of knowledge as a species. May we find the answers we are looking for.

    • My friend and colleague completed his grad studies and defended his PhD thesis at the young age of 56. It's never late to answer your calling. Your saying that we're insignificant is too modest. No star, AFAIK, has ever studied humans or other stars to better herself and her kind. Only the reverse is happening. We are part of the Universe, and only thanks to us the Universe can observe and understand herself. This is utterly significant! And yes, it's the greatest feeling of satisfaction when you finally find an answer to the nature's riddle, or even a little piece of the puzzle; but no, I don't think we will ever run out of our questions to the Universe.

    • As a kid I too was besotted with the cosmos. As a family our family would go camping and with the lack of city lights I would spend hours lying on my back letting my imagination run wild. One moonless and clear night ( maybe 1970) I spotted a comet with my pristine youthful eyes. I tried on several occasions to point it out to my father but he never could see it. After returning home I continued to track this comet for a couple of months until it was announce in the newspaper that a new comet had been discovered and named after the discoverer. I felt rather aggrieved, I was sure I was the first to see it.
