  • It's funny how this song sounds more villainous than "This Is The Thanks I Get" Almost sounds like Asha is trying to convince people to join a cult

    • OP, no duh! You think she and her social justice friends are going to have anything better to bring to the table than what Magnifico has? All they have is “the heart wants what the heart wants.”

    • @@blueturtle3623Who are you to determine that not all desires deserve to be met and fulfilled? These are people's dreams, their hopes, any wish deserves to be fulfilled, no matter if it is simple and humble, like Asha's grandfather who just wanted to play a song for the city, or seemingly impossible like the woman who dreamed of flying . you cannot determine whether or not people deserve to achieve their dreams.

      @gilnothing8565@gilnothing856513 күн бұрын
    • @@lukasmiller486Magnifico did not fulfill about 99.9% of his subjects' desires, he took away people's dreams and hopes, he determined whether or not they were worthy of fulfilling their dreams. even the simplest and most harmless ones, like Asha's grandfather who just wanted to play a song for the crowd with his guitar. In many scenes it is clear that he makes up lame excuses to not fulfill his wishes. the guy is literally a dictator who robs himself of hope, and at that moment he was literally KILLING the hope of his subjects through sheer power. not even the queen, HIS WIFE, was on his side.

      @gilnothing8565@gilnothing856513 күн бұрын
    • @@gilnothing8565 if every single person wished to be king, what would happen? Or if someone wished for another's death? Its fairly common for people to want to be rich, but if every single person wished to be a gazillionare, the economy would suffer. There are things that shouldn't come true. Its not about the wish being outlandish, its about the potential for harmful or dangerous wishes to come true.

  • Why does Asha reminds me of Gaston when he was singing follow me? Try to convince everyone else she was right. I mean Magnifico's point was logical and valid (he did have good intention and everyone was happy for a long time), not every wish deserves to be granted. Taking away someone's free will and forced them to 'love' you? Something that you can do yourself with hard work? What if a really dangerous person had a really terrible wish granted? If they stuck with the original concept that they had, it would had for a much better movie and this song would just worked much better as well as in the original, the king and queen where supposed to be an actual villainous couple and a real threat.

    • Not you spreading misinformation about Asha's motivation because you didn't get the villainous couple. Would that change Magnifico's motivation? No. This proves that you couldn't care less about Magnifico and are just being childish.

"At All Costs" for example really sounds like a love song (the music, the lyrics, etc.), but in the movie Magnifico and Asha (who are not in love) sing this song to a bunch of floating orbs... A composer who worked on many of the Disney Renaissance animated movies said that the songs should either establish character, move the plot forward or both. If the song can be cut without it affecting the story, it should be cut. I am not trying to ruin your enjoyment of the songs, I am just trying to explain why they would have required more work, when it comes to the writing.

It doesn't really include much about what they actually believe, and that's simply because this movie never went into details about WHY the king turned evil or why he's suddenly power hungry when he was happy to be a just ruler for YEARS!!! Por eso dice "knowing What i know now"

    • Sorry, but the story was the weakness of the movie. It wasn't bad, but ....when pointed out I can't help but agree ...what did the King actually do wrong? He didn't murder anyone. He didn't force anyone to live underneath his rule. He wasn't even a tyrant mad with power. The people lived very well under him ....the entire happy premise of the beginning of the movies doesn't help either. The movie struggled so hard to make him a bad guy ...that they had to give him an evil book, otherwise, there was no reason to stop him. Even in the end, he didn't use his power to simply blast the main heroine into nothingness. Considering the evils of past villains ...it was hard to see what he was guilty of. What did he do wrong?

    • The story would be better with a greater story Imagine a moral dillema of exploring both sides, Asha and her naive yet wholesome view on wish granting, and Magnifico as a Coping, traumatized yet proud king who knows the ins and outs. imagine a side of Asha thinking the King is an evil minded royalty, while he actually creates a facade of ego to keep himself together. What if this wasn't the first time a star went down? A wishing star is a compelling power of cosmic granting that pulls in to the deserving. What is considered as deserving? A person of will. A will to manifest a powerful entity to one's call. A star in you is the will of you to keep pushing. Now let's make this a backstory. A wish is asked, and upon the stars, the star falls to the person's will, but it was a will of malice and destruction. Taking command of the star, havoc reigned. That would be Magnificos backstory. A victim of a powerful force misused, and outcome of a traumatic paranoia. This would lead to coping mechanisms, which his wife would have used to help him grow as the king they knew. Love yourself, you couldn't do anything then and theres nothing to about it. It's done, learn from it. King Magnifico would A story of a young lad learning sorcery and taking a forward step to be the bridge of magic to humanity, to grant wishes to the deserving, because not every wish can be granted. That would be a compelling villainous arc. He holds the cursed book to study cosmic powers, powers beyond human control. He is put to a more paranoid state as he slowly pushes people away, even his beloved, while the voices in his head say he will betrayed, he is faithful. Faithful to his people, to his wife, to his oath.

But her turning on her husband in the actual movie, and the demonization of the king as a whole, didn’t feel deserved. He hoards wishes selfishly, yeah, but the motives and his abrupt change to being “pure evil” just felt kinda cheap to me. I’d love to see a version where this all feels more earned, because I do like the message that a woman can/should recognize when her love and situation blind her to abusive behaviors from her partner. We don’t see stuff like this in kids movies typically. Just wish (lol wish) it was executed better, because there’s an interesting conversation to be had about it.

Red flags about his character were already there so it really isn't that surprising that once he started using an evil book an remaining inhibitions were removed.

    • lyrics are significantly worse written than any other Disney Musical I've seen, (lyrics are generally more vague and vapid than usual in some songs, there's some really bad syllabic flow and incredibly contrived rhyming schemes here and there) but the orchestrations are often quite nice. I'd say it's probably the weakest set of musical numbers in any of the Disney Musicals, with maybe only Hercules and Tangled competing, but they aren't bad, and they were going for a unique sound even if it didn't pay off.

      @Omnipotentmonkey@OmnipotentmonkeyАй бұрын

      @Sophildoodle@SophildoodleАй бұрын
    • @@Sophildoodle Tangled and Hercules have much, MUCH better songwriting than this, no doubt, their songs are just a mixed bag in terms of story usage, orchestration etc. for Hercules, "Gospel Truth", "Zero to Hero", and "I won't say I'm in love" are bangers, excellent, catchy, well written songs. but "Go the Distance" is just such an autopilot song, it's well sung, and the lyrics are... competent, but it's just generic as hell. and "One Last Hope" is just okay. catchy, but again kind of generic. for Tangled, "Mother Knows Best" and "I've got a Dream" are great, but "When Will my Life Begin" and "at last I see the light" are the same problem as "Go the Distance" they're autopilot songs, particularly the latter, If I was looking to just write a generic love song, that's what I'd go with. in hindsight though, yeah, they're still FAR above Wish, they're the weakest musicals besides Wish, but they're leagues above it.

      @Omnipotentmonkey@OmnipotentmonkeyАй бұрын
    • @@Omnipotentmonkey I agree with you and I see what your saying. Though I don’t agree with “at last i see the light” and “when will my life begin” which are Bangers. The very first song in the movie plays a pivotal part as it introduces Rapunzel as a Character and her Day to day life, The lyrics sets that up quite Nicely in a very Upbeat Guitar beat. It’s literally her to-do list that ends with her Wishing to go out and not do the same things she always done. You can’t compare “go the distance” to “When will my life begin?” Because both have different goals and Different Wants, though Hercules is the more “generic” one. “At last I see the Light” is Such a Romantic song and I don’t think it’s super generic cause It ties it all that Rapunzel ever wanted: to see the lights. And now she has a New light she sees which is Eugene which starts up the duet. It also starts in a guitar beat just like the first song but Is much more slower paced and subtle. It’s a nice tie in to what was before and to what is now. But yeah, LEAUGES above wish

  • I kinda wish Asha had more of a character arc in this movie - she essentially starts with the morally correct worldview from a narrative standpoint since the very start of the movie. The only thing that changes is her realization that Magnifico is a villain as opposed to a leader who shares her values, everything else about her remains more or less completely unchanged throughout the plot. It almost feels like the Queen would have made a better main character in that regard - more agency/proximity with the villain, larger personal stakes, more grounds for conflict and challenging one's own beliefs to grow and become a better person. Asha has an astounding singing voice, but I felt they underutilized her character and made her a mouthpiece for the story's theme rather than a representation of it.

    @reddherod7677@reddherod767728 күн бұрын
    • How much of a character arc did Ariel get that didn't heavily involve romance, how did Belle change that wasn't just being given stuff, how did Moana change as a person over the course of her journey, how about Dorothy after running back to the farm in the first 15 minutes, did Snow, Cindy, or Aurora change as people over the course their movies? Really more than a few main characters in movies DON'T actually go through a major character arc but they do often influence others that sometimes needed someone else to push them to change.

      @1993digifan@1993digifan7 күн бұрын
    • I see your point in regards to Disney heroines being more instigating and guiding influences in their films, however I still feel their characters had a chance to portray a sense of growth and sincerity through the transformative aspects of their journeys that Asha, in my opinion, did not. Asha doesn’t get to discover anything or become surprised (in a truly consequential way, that is) by anything for most of this film. Even though Moana may not have undergone a paradigm shift in her own adventure, she still has to uncover the truth about her enemy and make the choice to adapt her strategies in confronting it. Belle isn’t won over because she’s bribed by gifts, she gradually falls in love due to the Beast’s capacity for gentleness and caring despite the fact he is literally a monster person. Even then, though, she still finds there are still some aspects of her ‘simple, provincial life’ that she couldn’t abandon - her dad - and thus inadvertently acts in a way that causes the Beast to nearly lose himself to despair and get broadsided by a vengeful Gaston and his goons. It felt to me that Asha wasn’t allowed to make any mistakes or make any discoveries or adapt her strategies or outlooks after that first, early meeting with Magnifico. It felt like a choice that didn’t extend from malice or laziness by any means, but more of an overabundance of caution on behalf of the storytellers to create as uncomplicated and unquestionably ‘good’ a protagonist as possible.

    • @@JadenOmega I think it may be that some parts of the plot just feel a little...stale? Underdeveloped maybe? Idk, when I first watched the film, I didn't really feel anything for it. I didn't hate it but I definitely think they could've done a better job with some of the characters. I have to say when I heard we could've gotten a villain couple with the King and Queen I felt pretty robbed ngl. But oh well.
