This song came out when I was dating my future husband in the 1960's and the last words he said to me before he passed away seven years ago were, "You are My Sugar Pie Honey Bunch!" A gem of a song.💖

I am sitting here crying because this song reminds me of my aunt Elisa who passed away in August of 2019. She was a kind and beautiful soul. She loved music from the 50s and 60s and has all of these old songs on 45s!! My uncle Eddie had a retirement party way back in 1962 and she went all the way back home to get her record player and records just so everyone could dance!! She was my friend, my protector, my north star and my God mother!! I know that she is an angel in Heaven now and she is still dancing!! Some of the best, beautiful, classy and most enjoyable music ever. They don't make music like this anymore. I was painting an empty bedroom in my house this week and had the Four Tops greatest hits, The Temptations, The Association and so many more great artists from that period blasting on my Bose portable speaker and signing along, never has painting been more fun and enjoyable. These men and groups were blessed with amazing voices and gifted us with music that still stands the test of time. They just don't make music like this anymore, music that makes you happy and joyful and just want to love being alive.

Despite being from Generarion Z (current generation of teenagers), I still feel incredible nostalgia whenever I hear this. This is mostly because when I used to be in elementary school as a young kid, old songs like Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Come On Eilene, and Sugar Pie Honey Bunch used to be played on the speakers of the school during dismissal. It was a truly joyful and blissful experience at such a young age. Moreover, the overall vibe that this song gives off is timeless and epic in its own sort of way. If anybody in this comment section was alive or listening to these kinds of songs when they came out, I salute you since your generation defenitely knew what "true" music used to be like. I wish you the best of luck!

This came out in April of 1965 when I was 21 and I was stationed in Vietnam. I left my newlywed wife behind in Florida with our twin baby girls while I went to fight for our freedom. I remember that summer in Nam was amazingly hot. I didn't realize at the time that myself & my soldier buddies was a part of something so great & I would make some amazing friendships that would last forever. When I came back from Nam my father gifted me a 1965 Alpha Romeo Spider at the Airport & we took a family trip to the Bahamas. Good times. Miss you dad x

When I was young, in the 1960's, the family, of our black building superindentent, used to take care of me. (My Mother was single and worked) Their daughter's name was Lucille, but she was called Sugar Pie. For Christmas of 67, they gave their son, Bubba, a drum set. We used to play and dance Mo town all the time. I have an exceptional amount of soul and rhythm for a white guy.

My grandfather played with them once when they came to Kansas City. This is real music that brings tears to my eyes.
The Classic Motown sounds will always stand alone. My Dad exposed me to it. It was the music of his generation and youth. I’ve exposed my Children to it. I hope this music never dies.
Classics don't die.
I'm a 28 year old guy & this right here is what music really is. Not this crap they play today!
Tim Fountain And this Tim also agrees with you. There was so much joy in these classics and one never tiers of hearing them, when ever they are played.
Tim Fountain Never again will we have class like this, motown was the best era of music ever.
Tim Fountain you know what's worse than bad music? this comment under every song that's older than 15 years. you're 28? then grow the fuck up, stop whining, listen to the music you like, and start talking about interesting stuff.
GustafGouda Negativity.
Tim Fountain I'm with Gustaf, no one cares how old you are listening to this song. If you really liked music for what it really is, you'd see the ignorance and how narrow minded you sound in saying all modern music is "crap".
Four Tops, Temptations, Diana & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Martha & The Vandellas.. is it any wonder how Motown was one of the most successful labels of the 60s and 70s, and the premier soul and r&b label of said era? This stuff is amazing.
What about The Drifters ??? ;-)
MJ and Jackson 5
Jackson 5?
Spinners
Marc John exactly they broke down barriers during the civil rights movement & the Vietnam War every Motown artists & groups crossed over to the white pop audience & black audience bands like The Temptations, Four Tops, Miracles & the Supremes were appearing on TV
A classic!! Forever hits 🔥🔥🇰🇪
Amen I remember it from Forrest Gump
Ah, the 60's, and I was there for every single second. Thank you, Jesus.
This is the song my grandpa always played and he always would see it with me when I was young and he just recently passed away so I cry every time I hear this. Rip paps
😢😢😢😢😢
Do not cry you will see him again someday

Sorry to be a dick but you do know you lost the Vietnam war
Anonymous Khan U r a dick!!!!!!! Wow!!!
L G yeah I am but the amount of times I hear Americans saying they won is annoying when they clearly lost but i know I sound and am a dick
Anonymous Khan How did they lose? Americans are not speaking Vietnamese now and I have friends who r Vietnamese refugees. So, what happened there? We didn’t free them?
L G mate the Americans went in to stop communism spreading to the south then America went in but realise this was a different war because it was the enemy hiding in plain sight so they were just taking casualties at casualties yeah they killed a lot of Vietnamese but for the strongest nation on the world they took so many casualties so Jimmy Carter saw a pointless war left within the year the took out the south and fell to the Vietcong
I'm 26, and I will never forget the first time I heard this genre.. I was 3 and called it, "Happy music"
The first single I ever bought and owned... my older sister turned me onto American R&B. This is such a cherished song for me. Motor City Soul rarely sounded better than this Holland Dozier Holland masterpiece. This was the golden age of dance music... The Tops an elite group.

such a nice, wholesome, fun little song. There is still some good music nowadays, but most kinds of music really peaked in the 60s and 70s in my opinion
Disco duck? peek of the 70s
I wouldn't call it a "little" song when it's a masterpiece.
Nirvana! 90’s rocked!
I agree with ya.
Sugar pie honey bunch, mine and my wife's song when we first met 1965 Hawaii when I was stationed there aboard ship, married 1966 passed 2016 thanks for the memories
over covid my cousin and I replayed this song while on call, loved every minute. we made videos, and put them together even though we were apart. some of my best memories
Can't be the only 22 year old who likes old songs .... ffs my room was elvis Presley growing up 🤣 shame my kids are going to think my old music is like ancient songs when they are my age ... another 20 year to go for them
I bet younger ppl really do think I grew up on some.. of these older songs tho :/. Well, maybe not this. But maybe 60s ,even up to the 80s. Like sure I was around for the 80s. But then again, in 89 I was still only 7.
When I was little, I thought they were saying "Suga pie honey bun." 😂😂😂
Hi x
Orinoco Flow for me: Sail away; I thought they were singing save the whales
me too😩
Me tooooo! LMBO!
I'm only 19, and this is the kind of music I listen to 24/7, all classics. My parents raised me on classic country, rock n roll, etc.. I cannot stand new age music. Love these guys! Talk about true talent.
2023 and beyond....80's baby, I'm living this right now...may be my wedding song 😊...Louisiana strong 💪🏾

2021 now. I was thinking of the dorky pet names I come up with, & my partna, & the air: ____ 🙄, you called? Then I forgot about it, got annoyed, then recalled again. Gonna send this to him. Once I get done knowing all the lyrics
This comment is to remind me of how it’s 8:15 pm on a Friday night. I’m riding in my dads Grand Prix with my mom also. He just re- pin striped it. Looks fire. 🔥 I love my parents with all my heart. ❤️ I pray I have them forever. It’s hard to not shed a tear knowing I may not have them someday but I’ll remember the good times. And hell the bad times too. I’ll cherish every memory. 💕💕

ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME
I'm 989 years old and nobody listens to this from my generation. My generation music is awful, but this is the bees knees!!!
what?
Mediaeval music is the shit.
The Four Tops Version Of This Song, Went To Number 1 On The Billboard Hot-100 Chart In 1965.
Still love this track...I'm a 65 year old grandmother who loved motown, in UK but brought up on this beautiful sound late 60's onwards. Remember vinyl motown chartbusters and Diana Ross & supreme next with 'up the ladder to the roof' very happy days ❤
When my dad came home from Vietnam, Motown and Andy Williams is all he listened to. I don't know what he went through but it made him get through it. Now that Ive been a police officer for 24 years. I understand. I miss him.
Motown, best genre of music bestowed upon us all. 🙏
MY GOD ! So well put!
Beside the amazing voice of Levi Stubbs the thing that really touched a piece of my soul was the first time I was able to hear this with headphones. It was sometime in the 80s and I was doing yard work and listening to Oldies. All of a sudden the violins began to play and it truly stopped me dead in my tracks.. I had heard them before but NEVER, EVER like this.. it was a moment I will Never forget. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
One of my favorite songs that came on at my first job at a store. I’d always sing and whistle it, still love it! I guess I can’t help myself 😉
I feel so privileged to be in my prime growing up in this era of simply the best music ever. Also so pleased to have seen most of the motown family performing live on several occasions. Will never forget every body just dancing to these great groups .
Truth I
29 year old from UK.. thank you to the generation that made this music
Classic rock fan from my teenage years, but have always loved Motown too. This is one of the best.
Played this song on my record player, 1966, 60's music will never be beat.
