Super low confidence, so much social anxiety and low drive. Some of my lowest points in my life was due to watching porn. I could promise you this, Once i stopped , my life has been nothing but successful. I found a beautiful GF at my job , in which i wouldve been to nervous to walk up to her and talk to her. My confidence is sky rocketed and my overall prospective of life has changed.

    • I'm going to be honest with you, I've been watching porn since 8 years old (I started with softcore oh Red Shoe Diaries, I loved that show on cinema Golden Choice). From that experience, I was happy (watching adult content when you're not supposed to, kinky). As time went by it did help my view, I realized that women weren't these delicate flowers they were human beings with libido and urges like me and it helped me relate with them on a personal level. Increase and confidence since I realize that I wasn't wrong for having sexual urges. Some of the highest points in my life were thanks to porn. Some of the best stories I've watched, and appreciate were thanks to porn great authors like Jacky St. James, Tsuyatsuya, Tamaki Nozomu, and Nicole Conn. That procreation and sexual acts are carnal acts that I could perform by anyone (the gama of male porn actors is quite wide as well once you pay attention). It helped my life in many ways. And whenever I didn't watch on a regular basis I get obsessed, always thinking about sex. I have a steady job, I have more money than my folks when they were my age, I have my place of my own and any relationship I’ve had being open about sexuality was never an issue. You were the problem pal, not porn.

    • Liam Patrick Well in the future, you might expect your wife to act a certain way sexually (like a way you see girls act in porn) which is extremely unrealistic. It effects relationships like with family. It’s gross but porn like incest can start to get into your head and you might start to think certain things ab siblings, uncles, etc. Porn’s also very degrading towards women and gives men unrealistic exceptions of women.

Both have had stds due to the job, both have mental health issues... I was told by Mel that they don't always clean the sets, the toys ect My other cousin went to a set where she was asked to use toys other people had used.... • well it's funny to be seeing this now, considering that there's an anti-pornography movement nowadays that is EXTREMELY justified. Pornography has always been seen as negative in all senses, and it's an exploitative industry: it exploits impressionable minds (since a big percentage of porn consumers are teenagers and sometimes even children), and hooks them to something fairly sinister. It's also exploitative because it further contributes to body issues and insecurities. But most importantly, the industry is a dangerous one. MindGeek and other adult video corporates have profited off of r*pe videos, child pornography, revenge porn, and sex trafficking. It is also a blatantly misogynistic industry and is very unethical toward female workers, as they are paid less and sometimes sexually exploited and assaulted while working. Frequent pornographic consumption also messes with brain receptors and the release of rewarding hormones, like dopamine and oxytocin. The porn industry knows very well it's unethical, dangerous, and exploitative, but they receive no repercussions and do nothing to solve the issues unless the New York Times decides to expose them.

    • @@gamecoolguy619 the problem with that statement is that you are separating society from porn. members of society come together to create porn, whether professionally or homemade. Even if we were to view porn as an isolated product outside of society it perks the mind and enables dangerous consumption. It is indisputable that there are are less demeaning videos out there, but its the lure of the most popular ones that draws the attention of human minds, both from the fact its a popular video and because the "lure" is comparable to a drug hit- having multiple women, taboo subjects like step siblings, etc. that is hard to not be curious or interested and really distorts views of women (and men!). As a woman I have experienced this way too many times. Bc my natural body is "desirable" i am not even known by my achievements but as the "big boob girl" by both men and women; my classmate said to me "have fun being a sex toy," being chased to my car by a guy saying he'd impregnate me, ive had people say they had sex with me and when i asked people why they believed it they said, literally, because of my body shape. Mind you, im a person who is choosing to wait; there is literally 0 warrant for anything i previously mentioned except how women are portrayed in media and porn. Warren is right when he says porn is playing with fire to peoples minds, and its not just chemically for the men attracted to women. Im not even completely dead-set against porn- i'd say im 90% against it- bc non-degrading videos of men and women do exist, people need to blow off steam every now and then, can be watched to reinvigorate a couples sex life, etc. But MOST consumed videos are the degrading ones, and the actors, directors, script writers, etc. are not separate from society; they are a part of it.

  • It's strange that despite being someone that consumes porn, I have a much stronger affinity for the anti-porn side. I love that none of them even said they were "anti-porn" in their intros, but simply stated a simple statement of the profound effects that porn has had on their lives/careers/professional lives. I agree with Abigail, it does require some level of maturity to consume porn, and it's perfectly okay to consume the material and understand that it does not accurately represent or portray, necessarily, healthy ways to do sex. When J.K. talked about the experience of failing to find pleasure (erection or stimulation) outside porn, that really hit me because at some point, I thought I was having the same issue. Given, I have been single for about 26 years and celibate for 23 of them, I encountered a problem where it felt like I had some issues that J.K. may have talked about and that made me afraid to pursue relationships. Despite being a sex worker, Riley doesn't just talk about the industry from a pro-stance. She outlines nuances and issues faced by sex workers and understands the issues caused by stigma and a lack of sex education. And I love how Maria isn't necessarily on the offensive, but speaks from a place of professional/educational sense. That whole piece about emotional intelligence from J.K. I found really interesting. Disney to porn. Definitely is such an extreme transition for a lot of us growing up!

That said, there are many people who enjoy making porn, watching porn and having sex on camera. It's a Job for many people. Some start out because of wrong reasons and want out, and I hope they do. But what about those that do not want out? Pornography is seen in bad light by almost everyone, but a Vast Majority still watch it. And enjoy it. So, what can you do? Nothing.

Porn CAN mess with your brain, however, just about anything can. The key to it is finding a healthy balance for yourself. I have a very high sex drive, my girlfriend does not, so I jerk off four times a day so that I’m not constantly tempted to bother her when she only wants sex two or three times a week.
