Oh, no things are getting weird again - guess what my TikTok showed me last week that inspired this video. Today we’re talking about Zhou Chuna a Chinese beauty influencer that is famous for getting a lot of cosmetic procedures done at a really young age. After doing some research I found out her backstory is very sad - growing up in an age with social media all around you can make it really hard to fit into beauty standards. The way you look definitely determines how you get treated in life. We also get into kpop idols getting pressured into getting work done when they’re still trainees and the toxic culture behind beauty pageants. I’ve never seen any of those dancing TLC reality shows other than when Abby Lee Miller tried to chomp on someone’s finger. The Youngest Plastic Surgery Influencer at 16 #edvasian

NO BUT I GET IT! I was so insecure about my knees when I was 13!! I vividly remember looking in the mirror years later once I got taller and leaner and thinking “oh my god. I have the knees I always wanted.” And it’s so weird like I don’t know where that insecurity even came from
I’ve heard that they also worry about calves. A friend of mine who lived in SK for 3 years said that a lot of women would get surgery on their calves to get them more shape and honestly now that I know that exist I might try it cause I’ve had nonexistent calves that just won’t come out of hiding no matter how much I work out my legs lol
It's so sad, I found myself at one point wanting knees that were wider/knocked because I thought it paired great with skinny legs 😭. It's like I saw my body as the clothing itself if that makes any sense lol

I feel for the little girl at the end, the fact that she doesn't even know what botox does is what breaks my heart. She's still little and doesn't need it, and her mother should be ashamed at herself for exposing her kid to plastic surgery at such a young age.

Her losing parts of her memory from the anesthesia is terrifying. There are other side effects like hair loss. I noticed after one of my surgeries that I was losing quite a bit of hair, my hair stylist pointed it out and actually told me that this is a common thing that happens.
Did it grow back? I need to get a surgery next year and trust the doctors completely so I wasn't stressed, but I have a new anxiety now

My ballet instructor gave us laxatives and eating disorders as children, literal children... I had to be no older than 10 when she told me I needed to start skipping dinner because I was starting to develop.

Same! my instructor treated the more skinny and younger children better, every monday she measured us and start telling us: you'll need to be more skinny if you want to do this choreography (or be able to stuff that didn't have anything to do with being skinny to perform better). I left the classes after I hurt my back trying to force myself to have more elasticity (because my instructor always force elasticity on us, never gave us exercises to develop it naturally), I was just a preteen back then, and during years I struggle with my self-esteem/weight alongside my back injury.

My parents have been pushing the idea of getting a rhinoplasty since I was 12 bc I was terribly bullied (not only by classmates but my family too). Pretty privilege exists all around the world
I am so sorry that is so mean and unsupportive. They should accept you, adore you, love you for who you are. Your physical appearance shouldn’t need to change, and no one should insult you or encourage you to change your body. It’s yours and it comes from your parents/family; your features are what make you unique. Maybe they have insecurities about large noses, but it’s not fair to take that out on you or push you to get surgery- especially not when you’re so young. Your nose should be accepted and even appreciated, not ridiculed and altered to become something different that doesn’t belong to you/match you/reflect who you are and where you come from. I hope both you and your family will come to embrace your nose and celebrate who you are.
I'm glad you haven't done it! I also got bullied for my Roman nose in school, but it suits me, looks kinda elegant, and hasn't affected my dating prospects at all. Keeping it almost feels like a rebellious act the way society is so concerned with "fixing" any nose that's not a perfect little slope. It's important to show people that other noses are not inherently ugly ❤️
You have to do what's right for you. Don't worry about what others think about your choice. It's your body. Whether you embrace or change, you're still you and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.
I’m so sorry that you’ve gone through this. Bullying in any form is so awful. I’m similar to you as I was bullied by my father and at school for my appearance. The beauty standard is so subjective and biased and it totally distorts the way people think. I’m most likely older than you as I grew up before the social media age and have insecurities. I feel for the younger generation having to look perfect when they reach puberty. The standard is so racially and gender biased that it’s sickening. I still can’t get over the sweet little girl getting Botox at 8!

As an esthetician, at least in my state, we cannot administer Botox. It's considered a cosmetic procedure and must be administered by a licensed medical professional. I can't believe that woman is giving her daughter Botox injections. She's way too young for that, I can't even wax someone's eyebrows if they're under 10, so the idea of giving a literal child Botox is horrifying to me. Also I feel bad for that girl who got all that surgery that young. If she's happy, then that's fine, but she should've never have been made to feel like she had to change to be accepted, and it sucks that that is how this world works. Society man.

If you getting before it might effect you brain especially in the future .The frontal lobes are important for voluntary movement, expressive language and for managing higher level executive functions.It might not effect her now but she’ll have trouble in the future when she’s older

Lorry Hill has talked about this after Bella Hadid admitted to getting plastic surgery at 14. Basically, she says that Hollywood people that grew up in the bubble, start tweaking their features really early. They'll just say it's puberty.
The Hadid sisters interactions with their mom about food are horrifying so I can only imagine what Yolanda was saying behind closed doors to both of them. Not to mention her blatant preference for Gigi’s appearance when Bella wasn’t modeling yet. It’s all so gross.
This is super prevalent in Kpop now, many girls debuting as young as 13 or 14 and seeing their "before pics" floors me because its obvious they got work done so young.

Speaking of this girl, I actually did some research on her on the Chinese part of the internet. First of all, she's not really an influencer. The only influence she has is getting people to diss her in the comments of various videos and comments sections I saw. I couldn't find any channels by her anywhere, so I'm guessing that it has been taken down. Here's an excerpt from an article that I found. Note that because this article was written in article format, it is far kinder and attempts to be more neutral than the actual reaction of most Chinese people's. The beauty standard in Asia is insane. I live in Indonesia, I've seen a lot of job ads that include good looking/attractive as a requirement or preference, especially for barista for some reason? It's also uncommon to see job ads for doctors/health care providers that include said requirement. It's weird because I think patients wouldn't really care about the doctor's look as long as they're clean, neat, gets the job done and they're using protective suit anyway with mask and all that 💀

@@scramblecore9156 sadly it's true, although I think it also heavily depended on the work field, for example technical jobs don't typically require the candidates to be good looking, but jobs like marketing, public relations, secretary and even cashier or admin staff are most likely to include it as a requirement. She wasn't bullied into changing her appearance. It was her that got plastic surgery, and then her classmates started to isolate her. Idk where Edvasion got his info, but it wasn't the original source, because I actually did some research into this on the Chinese internet where the OG sources are, and there's a lot he said that was wrong.
Changing appearance happened because her parents allowed it and paid for it. I would've never thought of plastic surgery as a kid when I was bullied or hated my appearance because I was(still am) poor. Blame the parents and social media for enabling this behavior and mindset.
@@nathalieli7617 There was a show, an American or British one, I think where they give free plastic surgery to kids under 18 because they were being bullied in school about their appearance but couldn't afford any procedures. So yeah, a lot of kids must have thought about it. Btw social media is just an outlet for society. Good luck trying to change anything if your focus is on social media rather than society itself.

There’s this Japanese KZhead mom that forced her 9 year old daughter to get double eyelid surgery even tho she didn’t want to do it. Until then she always talked about how ugly her child was. Also I just checked and she posted a video saying that her 9 year old child did her “gravure” debut (modeling in bikinis, swimsuits and other outfits that a 9 year old should not wear) . I just looked at their channel and all their videos and thumbnails are super extreme and disturbing. No one in the comments are supportive thank god and I’m surprised they’re not banned yet. I think these are one of those KZheadrs that do extreme and problematic things on purpose for clout. I’m so sad to see this especially as a Japanese person, please report their videos to KZhead.

It shouldn’t even be legal for a _literal child_ to get _any_ permanent cosmetic surgery (I’d argue filler too), least of all over 100!! But that’s capitalism for you; if you can pay, I guess anything goes. It’s just sad that adult professionals, who likely went to college for 4+ years, are okay with operating on preteens who clearly suffer from massive insecurities which can actually be treated and managed instead of exploited. Edit: Also Zhou was such a cutie before the surgeries!!
I feel like she looked very much like many of us Southeast Asians, and I’ve actually met many Vietnamese girls who are praised for looking like her. I think this was probably the reason for the bullying, as East Asians (especially the Chinese) haven’t always historically embraced their Southeast brethren, and often associate our features with inferiority. That prejudice just manifests itself in subtle, ingrained, invisible ways. Because she really was quite cute, so I can’t see any other reason why she would be bullied for her appearance.
i totally agree, the only exceptions tho i’d say is surgery to correct a deviated septum (because that can help with breathing), or other functional surgeries like jaw alignment if the jaw is asymmetrical etc (correcting this can help w teeth-grinding & pressure in the ears)...other than that tho, it really shouldn’t be legal to operate on a kid’s face... it’s so sad what bullying & dysphoria does to children

The first time I heard of plastic surgery was 8th grade. A girl I saw on the bus told me her parents signed her up to get her nose done. It was a bit too soon. She had to get it redone because she grew a bit more. I finally figured out that her Dad got his nose done and signed her up because she had inherited his nose shape. She looked great but it really threw her for a loop that her parents wanted to change her face
I knew of one in the 9th grade but she had to do it because of an accident where a horse beat the hell out of her and destroyed her face

When that kid was asked why she needs botox, then her mom mouthed something to her and the kid smiled in this pretty, complacent way at the interviewer - it reminded me of Jenette McCurdy's book; she said that she learned how to look content and happy for her mother, and then for the filming crew and audiences. How she would endure any crazy sht her mother forced her to do, always with a cute, pleasant smile, so as not to show even the slightest negative emotion.

That's not true. Your brain never 'finishes developing'. It's not cake. It doesn't go "ping!" and stop cooking. The study behind that myth was poorly done; basically the guy never scanned any brain older than 25 so he just put that down as the 'done' date. I’m glad that woman pointed out that she never thought her gums showing when she smiles/talks was a bad thing, until someone mentioned it. I think a lot of people still have trouble noticing this when they perceive certain features as a “flaw”. It’s possible to go your entire life being okay with how something looks, unless someone else draws attention to it in a negative way. It happened to me plenty of times in high school. Even my aunt one time, told me that I had a “big, ugly nose” like my dad and that I needed a rhinoplasty (it was said in a “joking” manner in front of other family members too). I never thought my nose was all that big until that day 😬
Big noses are beautiful and unique. 😄 I may be biased because I have a big nose too. But I look at my beautiful children with the same big nose.. and I'm proud we are all connected in this way. 💕 our faces tell a story.

As a mom I'm absolutely horrified that ANY parents would allow their children to get non medically needed botox or plastic surgery. They child will never be able to know what they would actually look like once they reach adulthood, and also have a lifetime of mental problems caused by the insecurities the parents placed upon them. The botox mom needs to have CPS called on her.

That Botox story has sent me on such a google rabbit hole. Some stories say her child was taken away. Some say that she just made it up for cash. Another one says that her kid wasn’t taken away because she doesn’t even live in San Francisco… I want someone to deep dive and find the truth.
It feels like a Black Mirror episode. 8 year olds DO NOT have wrinkles. The face CREASING while you're making expressions, are not wrinkles (yet). They can become over time. But not at 8 years old.
This is so sad. It reminds me of when I was teaching at a hagwon in Korea. I had one student who had just turned 15, and her parents gave her double eyelid surgery as a birthday present. Her mom wouldn't even let her skip class to recover from the surgery. I'll never forget having to hide my horror when she walked in with stitches in her swollen eyelids. Her parents love her too much. If they didn't love her, they wouldn't have spent so much money for her. The problem is that they see nothing wrong in indulging their child to dangerous procedures just because she wants it.
Fr, Kylie Jenner went through so much just to be bullied online for looking like she aged in a recent picture (which doesn't look any different from how she usually does, at least to me). You can never win at conforming to beauty standards. Plastic surgery or not, it's pointless to try to look perfect for total strangers because it will never last long as the standards for beauty change with time.

Look, I hate being the “she looked fine before!” person, bc it’s almost always used to shame people, but… fr she was so pretty before. She wasn’t even an adult, and her face had so much changing to do and would likely have gotten more defined on its own. I would’ve loved to see how her face matured naturally. Those kids that bullied her better know about her now and regret their every previous action.
The scariest thing is I'd doubt they even regret it considering how fcked up Asian beauty standards are.

I feel so sad for her... nobody deserves to go through especially at that age. she needed someone to assure and comfort her to let her know that she was beautiful even without ps, but it seems like she had no one to do that for her, not even her own parents, leading her to get multiple ps just to get validation.

It’s scary that there’s parents who are so okay with a literal child getting plastic surgery. When i was young, the kids weren’t even allowed to dye their hair, even though it’s not permanent. I’m so thankful getting plastic sugery when you’re under 18 is illegal here, because otherwise i would have a horrible nose now. I thought i got an ugly big nose, turns out it’s just big and there’s nothing wrong with it. Now i realize i’d look dumb with small nose because i got a big face too.

I'm not sure why but seeing *Zhou's BIG EYES* @ 3:53 made me develop some type of phobia against big eyes somehow as it's definitely NOT NORMAL for a human being to have eyes that size and feel so heartbroken for her! The parents need to be held responsible since she's underage along how they even have her spent $600K to get all that plastic surgery done which is so confusing to me on how she was pressured to do so. I even told my elder brother about this and even he agrees with *Edvasian* on how messed up this is for society to push the current generation to be like plastic dolls from Toy Story to be accepted along seen attractive. Me as a brown-skinned black person, I got teased for my appearance along my big nose as I got comments that I look like Linguini from Ratatoulle (can't spell the movie name) and even felt hurt from the comments but decided to accept my appearance as I rather not sacrifice my lifestyle for others to like me more. I rather be accepted for being ugly/well below average than forming friendships for being attractive and feel so awful for what Zhou has to go through just for other teems to accept her. :-(
The eyes are a filter, you can't get plastic surgery to increase the size of you actual eyeball nor the irises etc.
@@chromberries7329 you can add colored contacts. By adding a ring of color to the outer edge of the iris, the eyes look larger. Still, that’s dramatic.

"When she does her smile it has the lines" is not something that shouldn’t be seen as a flaw because that's a natural part of pretty much everyone's face. Skin on the face wrinkles when people make certain expressions, that's just how the human body works edited for an unfortunate typo

I forget what it is called, but the premise is that everyone gets plastic surgery to look like that and the main character either dies or is botched (open to interpretation) under a discount procedure just to look attractive. She was already conventionally attractive before is the thing. The short really spoke about radical and dangerous beauty trends and society.

plastic surgery is honestly more popular in east asia. in most other parts of asia we kinda look down on it tbh. im also 16 and am super fortunate to be born and raised in singapore where people don't really care much about looks most of the time. I feel really bad for that girl :(
Correction; it’s only really “popular” in Korea. In fact, China and Japan don’t have these pressures, nor is plastic surgery popular, supported, or even liked in China. People often misunderstand proportions in regards to China solely because of the sheer scale of the population. As such, things that seem widespread are actually very small on the scale of things. Looks are not the key focus in Chinese society; grades and education are far more important.

I think young girls especially have been through similar situation like this girl, I never wanting to change my appearance, but I am self conscious about something, but it easy to learn and accept your natural beauty, because getting procedure will only led to more and more and you’re truly never being satisfied until you literally get too much procedure , wrinkles are inevitable, getting old is inevitable. No botox or whatever is going to stop that. Kids shouldn’t get these things done. I’m 20 and I use to have that mind set, because of my tanner complexion, but self love is the best love.
Wait, they can't have a passport in China before age 16... WHAT!!!? I had my first passport when I was 3 months old. At some point, if she keeps getting surgeries, her nose will collapse if surgeons don't tell her no before then. Most people can't think about how a desision they make today can affect them tomorrow, next week, next month and so on until around age 25. And today I learnt that knee lifts exist as a cosmetic surgery.

It's so heart breaking to see this kind of thing. Something called facial dysmorphia always comes to mind. It's a metal illness where you see a warped perception of your face (I'm sure you've heard of body dysmorphia, they're the same thing essentially) and no matter how many procedures you get, you will always see yourself as flawed. The only way to get rid of it is through years of cognative behavioral therapy. Anytime I see someone repeatedly get surgeries, I'm always so worried about the possibility. Most people don't realize dysmorphia is an issue until it's too late
We are falling into the uncanny valley with all of these extensive surgeries.

Honestly speaking here, I was that normal looking like her (pre-surgery). She was not ugly, just normal looking girl. Anyways, When I get to my 20, even a stranger( Both men & women) come up to me and tell me I was beautiful. A friend from my childhood told me, “Wow you have changed” Ugly ducking situation. Also, I did get some minor bullying at school. I think it is normal part of life. As adult, people use different tactic. People attack other because they jealous, want to be a big shot, etc… Anyways, her parents walked this life, they should of help her through this bump and help her grow naturally. We can’t choose what we experienced, but we can choose how to react to them.

This just occurred to me about all the treatments and surgeries for K-pop trainees (12.40 mark). Given that the trainees will have contractual obligations to repay the cost of their traineeship I wouldn't be surprised if the corporations involved in the industry add them in to inflate the costs accrued by the kids. There's a reason they're called slave contracts.

I lived in the "West" and I lived and currently live in Asia and strangers do "examine" your look, give you their unsolicited opinions and suggestions. It's something I'm working on to ignore, because it's not everything and shouldn't be that important. Physically and visually, what's important is that I take care of myself by eating well, exercising, taking care of my mental health and groom myself well, making sure I'm clean and orderly. That's supposed to be it, isn't it? It's also really interesting that people do remember me/treat me kindly because, supposedly, I am rather "good looking" because I have long thick hair, arguably even face, and slim body as a (young looking) woman. I have my (visual) bias, too, because people do have appearance and I consume media just like everyone else. I continuously work to remind myself to be mindful and remember that looks aren't everything.

The one thing I was consistently bullied for during the whole of my school life was my appearance. I’m only 22 years old now but after experiencing being told I’m ugly for the majority of my life no matter how much work I do with my mindset I don’t think I’ll ever truly think I’m anything more than ugly
Had same situation like you in a past. Still sometimes avoid myself in the mirror. Was called ugly and fat, developed ED, its truly hard battle because I still tend to relapse. Now I am 32, look the same as I looked when i was 16 (i stopped developing when I was 13-14 due to ED and my looks just froze in time), but despite complements about my looks now, I still remember beeing bullied by same looks and its kinda hard to believe I am beautiful. Hope one day you heal from this traumatic experience because you look absolotely breathtaking. And hope one day will come that you will actually feel it. I wait for this day also. And I wish you the best ♡
I can recommend to hit the gym and take care of your clothes (that you like waht you are wearing and stuff) then you mindset will change automatically over time
The first time I heard about plastic surgery was when I was about 10. I'm someone who is Chinese and born with double eyelids, which every member of my family has as well, and I remember a white classmate of mine asking me how I got eyelids and whether I got surgery to get them, and I looked at her so confused and said "What do you mean? Surgery? No, I've always had double eyelids. Am I not supposed to?".
in my country it's illegal to administer Botox to a person under the age of 18. the person who administered the Botox would loose their license and get a fine. if it was administered by the parent, the parent would be under investigation by the state ... seeing the parent talk so freely and positively about a crime and child abuse is so wild to me.

I remember when I was a kid between 6 or 7 when I started hearing my own family telling me to get rhinoplasty when I grow up. My brother would also pinch my nose and tease me, calling my nose "flat" and "chubby". It made me hate my nose. I feel embarrassed and insecure to the point that there are times I wouldn't look at people directly when I'm having a conversation. Anyway I'm 27 now and I still have my "flat" and "chubby" nose lol. I still have love and hate relationship with it , but I like it way better now. Also I pierced it and made my nose way cuter if I say so myself ! 😂. If I ever have my own kid ( and that's a big IF lol ) I would try my best to be a better person and wouldn't let my kid feel embarrassed and insecure for something beautiful and functional just like my "flat" and "chubby" nose. ❤️

Beauty pageants also have an origin in eugenics and lots of messed up racial stuff. I’ve seen an old news reel of a Finnish teenager preparing for a Miss Europe pageant, and the voiceover was saying how she will prove to the world that we are racially European, not a “mongol race” as was widely believed at the time (and the actual language was much worse).
