In this video I make Goblet from a piece of Burr Elm and carved a knot into the stem .. Probably not the best choice of wood for something like this but after a bit of resin work on some hidden splits, it just about held together .. I finished it with a gloss spray lacquer..

When I was a girl I used to watch my Dad in his shop use the lathe on regular things and loved it. Now I’m nearing 70 and am utterly fascinated and mesmerized by your artistry. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
Thank you!
Wow. Not only does Andy have great carpentry skills, his impression of a rooster is also spot on!
Ok it wasn't me going crazy!
So random.
@@jayemes1552 It was the booboo, and the rooster took over the comments.
@@jayemes1552 I'm pretty sure it was to censor him swearing after realising it broke
@@bethanymeadows4892 I don't think it broke. I think there was a knot/crack in the wood itself that he didn't know about until he got deeper into it.
🤩👏🏻 Wow! Wood knots have always blown my mind, and now I’ve been shown an artist’s secrets! Thank you, so fascinating to watch 🎉
The residents of Knotting Hill and Knots Landing were on the edge of their seats watching that bastard develop. Excellent job as always Scotland sends its regards
As a fellow wood turner I have to say this is the most masterful example of the art that I've seen. Simply stunning.
Beautiful! It resembles a tulip's shape, and that knotted stem adds so much visual interest to this work of art.
I've been a wood turner for many years, or rather I thought I was! BRAVO! Wakodahatchee Chris
Man, you made me feel real good about myself. I am very new to woodturning and I am learning as I go, mistakes and all. I thought that I was the only one working through some jacked up stuff. I push through until I get something out of a piece so I can see what not to do and works best for me. Hopefully, I can become half as good a craftsman as this because it's beautiful work out of some cracked up mess. True artist. Thank you for the motivation.
The level of skill needed to create this masterpiece is extraordinary, well done.
Rock
More than skill, it took some high level three dimensional thought. I think I could work it. I just can't visualize it.
I am absolutely in love with this piece, not so much for the carving (which *is* really cool!) but because you left the edge natural.
OMG! the chisel fading in and out while doing the broken cup bit was soooo trippy!!
Watching yours and Matt Jordan's channels have really given me a new appreciation of the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into work like this. I literally watched it happen and still don't know how three holes turned into a knot.
Not even exagerating, this is probably the most impressive thing I think you've done (to me anyways). I literally said 'What the fuck" when I saw the knot take shape. Very neat!
Cheers 👍
you must know that this frace 'WHAT THE FACK" said only by the woodturners like as. OLL the others sais ok beaytiful. :))))
@@G32dwm I'm sorry sir but what?
@@theonetheonly1986 phrase lmao
Ahaha Gandalf got the drip
Красотища, вы как фокусник, взяли предмет покрутили, где надо подпилили, а на выходе получается шедевр.
WOW......now there's a Challenge. Very beautiful and most intrigueing.
Goblet, meet pretzel. Amazing work just seeing that in a piece of wood.
Your skills at mounting anything to the lathe never fails to blow my mind. I almost never give videos a “thumbs up” but this one easily earned it. Incredible
Cheers Caleb 👍
At first I thought you were going to make a heart. then maybe a skull? Possibly a soft pretzel? My mind is truly blown. This is definitely a knotty problem. O.O How do you even come up with this idea? This is amazing.
Belli bello👍
WoW !! It takes a beautiful mind to think of beautiful pieces like this ...... Incredible !!
Totaly different level !!! OMG!! You are the best!
Awesome Andy… and I know that is “KNOT” easy to do. Give that a good hard yank and you may never get it untied. But seriously, everything is better with a live edge. Beautiful.
Most talented of all the KZhead woodturners in my opinion. Love the end result.
Cheers 👍
I have been looking at wood turning videos for three weeks now. I don't know what I watched that KZhead thought I would like watching wood turning videos, but I did. Some of them have no sound and you can you can just lose yourself in the sounds of the wood and the machines. There is one where the guy talks and makes funny faces which I enjoy as well but the ones without talking or music are hypnotic. I wanted to share one with my brother who is a carpenter but I was waiting for a really good video. I have found it. This video was amazing. I have always wanted a know how those knots🪢were made. I am going to watch it again. Thank you 😊. It took my mind off my problem. 🙃 It actually relaxed me.
There are no more words to describe you, your talents uniqueness, you my man ate really good at what you do, plane and simple, THANKS FOR LETTING US IN FOR A BIT.
I was so confused at first. I was like what the hell is he going to do with that giant blocky middle. Didn't except that intertwining mid section. Very impressed. Love seeing your work
Holy cow, that is some serious artistry there.
Correction artistree
Every man has the right to be highly skilled but you're just taking the piss now :-) Outstanding, well done Andy.
Fantastic !! Burr Elm is a really beautiful kind of wood. With a gloss spray lacquer the wood looks like marble ! Gorgious.
Blended projects are the best AND the worst ones. This one was a good one. I love it. My hands hurt thinking about the sanding of the loops.
5:21😂😂😂, but you saved it & it "turned" out great, beautiful 😍. Have a nice weekend 😊
Thanks Cheers 👍
That is SHOCKINGLY beautiful!!!!
Хей чувак,ты делаешь необычные и красивые вещи! Супер!
Завидую таланту художника, его огромной фантазии и мастерству! Просто шик, блеск, красота!
Knot sure how he made me addictive to wood turning , but he did..😍
Wow! I don’t think my mind could even conceive that shape coming from a block of wood. I think it’s my favorite piece that I’ve seen you make on this channel!
Thanks
I was a machinist for years. I am a Social Worker now, which is good but I sure miss the machine shops. Thanks for posting these videos. You do great work and are very creative.
Thanks !
People ask why I fell in love with carpentry. I lie and say it was because of my grandpa. But it’s exactly because of these pieces of art and the craftsmanship required to do said artwork
Thank you for giving me something beautiful to see today. Beautiful done! Amazing!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Превосходно!!!!!! I'm from Russia :)))
Wish I could had one when I married my late husband. I would call this the love knot.
that is really cool looking.
No it ain't !!
@@neilgillmore what is wrong with you?
You just get more and more creative, Andy! It looks more like a pretzel than a knot, but I guess it's really the same thing. So very cool! Phil
Thanks Phil 👍
What a save that was, sign of a great craftsman there, knowing what to do when things don't go as planned. Great to watch. Thanks.
Thanks 👍
For a moment there, I thought you were going to try and use that blue tape to hold it together! Nice save with the epoxy!
The artist that you are proves a twist in your works “turns” out something of beauty.
I have only two words dude......Astounding! Beautiful!
Great piece! Enjoyed watching! Let's go Buffalo! 😏
I've watched the Dremel knot-grinding part three times and I'm still not sure how you did it. Incredible!
This is the cup a wizard would give to a designated king or something..... It has a mythical feel to it.
Watching this whole process like 😯😱🤩😍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💕
Thank you, Andy, I experienced real joy in your creating this beautiful goblet. mj
That was freaking awesome, and possibly one of the most impressive pieces I've seen you make. I don't know how you get your inspiration or "vision" to see how to create such things out of a raw piece of wood, but just more evidence that you are truly an artist. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Andy, Wow! I've never seen anything like it. That is absolutely beautiful Andy. Definitely A Conversation Piece when you have guests over. I hope everything is going well for you and your family. Okay thanks for the video I'll catch you on the next one. From katrinka, SF Bay Area
I thought you were going to make a whatch-a-ma-call-it-thing-a-ma-bob but instead you created a stunning piece of art!!!
Stunning... they should teach this to our kids at school instead of lidded boxes. Beautiful work!
Thanks
So creative. I just don't have the vision to see it until it's complete.
For the purest you can say "I did it all on the Lathe" LOL. I would bet that wasn't your first attempt at the carving that. Not to many people have the skills to wrap there head around that. Awesome piece. Nice form. Bravo. Thanks
All the Accolades have All been used, so I'll just add... Very Well Done Andy! Very Well Done! 🥰 Cheers! 🥂🍻
Cheers 🥃
Amazing work @Andy Phillip. How you turned a solid wood chunk into a goblet with a knot in the handle was fun to watch.
Красиво, необычно выглядит👍👏
man you just got me in this one, I was like o.O
That's knot what you want to happen when you're turning wood, but at least you managed to sort it out 👍👏
incredible. it belongs in an art gallery!!
Very pretty! Next challenge: Turn a wooden Klein bottle!
Now that's a cup of a carpenter!
WOW Just found this channel. Glad I DID
Bloody hell, impressive. I had no idea where you were going with the middle bit, but.. I can't even imagine conceptualising that detail in my head... oO
that is crazy , i really enjoy watching the things you come up with , one of the coolest things I've seen yet great job
Дело - Мастера боится! Круто!!
Dein Ernst?
I usually tend to like more symmetrical pieces.... But this one absolutely blew my mind. Keep up the amazing work Andy, you are truly a talented artist.
Now that was very entertaining for sure! Great job on the goblet!!!!
Oh, my word, Andy! When you spotted the wobble in the stem, I almost cried. But, you and your quick thinking saved the project. What an amazing job on this stunning piece. 💜
Мне очень 💓 нравится ваше труды 👍👍👍🤝
Well done is an understatement. That is probably the best thing I have ever seen done. Unreal.
Thanks 👍
Holy smokes, that's absolutely mind blowing 🙀🖤🖤🖤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
beautiful piece.
Really beautiful...
Knot!
Jk jk this really does look amazing
maravilhosa obra de arte.
Incredible, uses wood as a plaster. You are definitely educated in the field of sculpture!
Very awesome. You simply carve away "what's not a knot". ;)
Now that is a master piece of turning. I need more..... lolz
Pun intended? 😉 This is making me crave pretzels
Красиво! Спасибо!
🏴☠️
Best goblet yet. I honestly would buy it
this is by far the coolest thing ive ever seen
5:20 запикал классно!)) сразу понятно что хотел сказать.))
🤣
It layman's terms, this is known as 'The Sacred Pretzel Cup'. Behold, The Sacred Pretzel Cup
Didn't want KZhead to hear the frustration. That gave me a good laugh because it was unexpected. Still one of the best wood workers on hete
Thanks 👍
I am Blown Away! B E A U T I F U L !!
That’s different Andy. Really enjoyed watching you make the knot (how did you work it out?). The finished goblet is a real piece of art.
Thanks 👍
Incrível, sensacional, ecelente e perfeito. Grande artista.
Even watching, I still cant understand how he can make that. Its absolutely beautiful and awesome looking. So very cool.
I don't much like captive ring stems but I LOVE this! This is the next level! A beautiful burr beautifully crafted into a beautiful object. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers 👍
The Pretzel Piece More like!! Great work tho.. 👍🏼
Very cool! I like how you saved the project by filling in that crack, but that brought up a question. how many projects do you think you had to scrap after messing up or having faulty materials?
Yeah, really.
Don't you guys know? Woodworkers do not make mistakes or have faulty materials. They make interesting design choices with non standard materials.
A very clever piece of work extremely well done great job
Wow that is awesome. Your so talented. I remember my Dad carved a chain out of wood. It was cool. Thanks for sharing this.
10:57 when that guy in Toy Story 2 cleans Woody
Good job👍👍👍
This is dope! I didn't expect it to be made from one block of wood
Absolutely " Stunning " ! True professionalism... No Laughs , No Giggles , No Waffling , No Advertising Promotions ... And You have " Chickens " .... Absolutely loved the true Art you're gifted with . You've topped many others we've watched in this same field . Thanks for sharing your Talent !
Thanks 👍
Maravilhoso 👏👏👏
