This guy was no joke, he was based on real life Mexican fighter Ricardo "Finito" Lopez who retired undefeated with a record of 51wins 1 draw and 38 KO's.
that 1 draw gonna be against Ippo :O
wait till you watch the new season hajime no ippo shippuden

could've sworn he was based slightly off of Julio César Chávez, but i guess i was wrong. wonder where i learned that lol
@@airsoftgunreviewr331 Julio Cesar Chavez is a whole other beast, I think he had his first loss on his 92 fight. A true boxing monster, he hunted everyone down in the ring.

Ippo: one of few series where being Mexican is considered a super power
Hahaha!!!!
Apparently, there are a lot of Mexican boxers and supposedly their machismo and ability to push for physical labor is what makes them great boxers. Look it up.
Julio César Chávez a proud Mexican boxer who fought in the super featherweight class (Ippo is featherweight I believe.) Total fights 115 Wins 107 Wins by KO 86 Losses 6 Draws 2 I'm pretty sure Ricardo is based on him.
@@DrClawizdead Chavez is amazing himself but Ricardo is based of a real person as well Ricardo “el finito” López he was an amazing boxer just like in the anime. When it comes to boxing Mexico is literally a powerhouse always bringing up new talent they are always dominating any combat sport.
Actually Japan has great love for Mexican fighters and culture. The idea of Mexican pride goes along with the Japanese way of thinking. Mexico is a superpower when it comes to boxing. The only weight we don’t control is heavy weight we are too short
This is the definition of: "There's levels to this." 🤣🤣
Facts. Huge Skill Gap
Ricardo reminds me of something Oliva said in Baki. To paraphrase, he basically said, "Bro, there are over 2000 people waiting to fight me. You're in last place."
Ippo getting crushed by Ricardo only using jabs here is basically Zoro challenging Mihawk and getting defeated by only his tiny blade.
@@hypnoticskull6342 💯
Yeah but remember ippo was a teenager and in that moment he's 17 year's old
Whats best about this spar (even though Ippo got completely crushes) is that out of a majority of fights Ricardo fought, Ricardo the big man remembers Ippo after all the years past after the spar. He recognizes him and his stength along with Sendo. I hope in the manga we get to see Ippo vs Ricardo.
Do u know where I can start reading it?
@@dragz_hnimangakatana
@@crowly616 thx but I already found one
I do really like the theory that prior to making it big as a pro boxer Ricardo has a very similar style to Ippo and also used the Dempsey Roll which is why he was able to dismantle it so easily and also why Ippo made such a big impact on him despite the little dude not really doing much.
Then, we have to make sure to live long enough to see it, and Morikawa sensei to live long enough to make it. After all, Morikawa sensei is the only mangaka to spend 240 chapters for a MC time skip and teasers😂
That jab is not anime overexageration. If youve ever spared against a semi pro with a fast and good jab. From your perspective as a fighter you can see the punch sometimes specially against someone who doesnt telegraph their punches. It really feels like your getting hit with punches you cant see coming. Its a vety humbling experience.
Y
It's like a rewind on a videotape
None of the techniques from this show are overexaggerated, they're just dramatized. But yes, they're all a thing in the real world.
When i saw him i was like: man, this manga will last a lot longer than i expected.
it will XD
……And Ippo has retired and hasn’t returned to the ring for hundreds of chapters already
@@jaykenarn6223 I'm praying for him to return to the ring. Lot of his rivals are itching for another fight with him. Besides eji passed the torch to ippo for a reason.
@@jaykenarn6223 fuk
Of course, they're milking the everliving crap out of the manga. Ive never seen a manga with anime's characteristic poor pacing
Ippo's biggest weakness is his timid mentality and lack of faith in his own power.
Those are his two biggest weaknesses: Lack of a boxing mentality Easily discouraged when he isn’t on his last leg
Can't wait for Rinnegan Ippo hahahaha
On g!! That shit pisses me off 💀
Bro facts if he had Takamura Heart for the Sport he would've challenged Ricardo long ago.

@@soyboy6 the challenger arc
Yup, Ricardo is what you call a Boxer-Puncher. Can either use his technical skill to dismantle you or maul you to death in a brawl
The way martinez’s focus locked in behind the shadows when he turned his head slightly to look at ippo after the sparring is a foreshadowing 😏😏 he knows Ippo going to bring some big boy power later
I always wandered what was the meaning of that, this makes sense.
10 years later Ippo became a ring side assitant.
Freaking love Ricardo Martinez, dude's such an epic character and master-class, especially when you read the manga. Easily the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the Ippo Universe (second would be Takamura).
How would he beat takamura. There in different weight classes
@@lancelot4718 "pound-for-pound," it's a phrase used to compare boxers across different weight classes because you obviously can't do it on a normal scale
@@rudysorensen9256 I don't understand. Are people saying if they were in the same ring Ricardo would win?
@@lancelot4718 Non c'est complètement l'inverse qu'on te dit crétin Même moi qui ne suis pas suffisamment à l'aise avec l'anglais pour répondre dans cette langue je l'ai pigé
@@lancelot4718 They used the phrase to indicate that in terms of boxing skill, Ricardo is better. You could never put those two in a ring and have a fair matchup due to the size difference, everybody understands that. If you follow real boxing you'll see the same thing being done. People will argue things like whether Mayweather or Ali is the best boxer despite them being in different weight classes. People aren't saying that Mayweather would beat Ali, they're just saying Mayweather has more skill than Ali since you can actually compare that aspect of them despite the size difference. (I don't actually hold an opinion about who's the best though, just used an example)
And now 4 years later we finish Ricardo's second full fight of the series, learning much more about him in the process. I can't wait to see what else Ippo has in store, 2023 should be amazing for developments.
The pace of the manga is incredibly slow lol, I wouldn't be surprised if the author entirely forgets about ippo

That time ippo got folded by jabs only. This was like watching Floyd vs that one British boxer, he just got outclassed by a mile
Martinez be like : " Now i'm the protagonist kid "
Martinez was like to Ippo : Look at me.... I am the captain
Hajime no ippo is one of few sport anime's where it makes it clear that the mc is not world level and there are monsters besides the mc...
Unlike the other boxers trying to counter the dempsey roll by stepping back to widen their vision, ricardo has his blind spots covered without needing to move. Genius? Huge experience ? He might as well be boxing blindfolded
Nah he has impeccable timing. Ippo is basically a metronome in Dempsey roll, just time it and you will hit. Of course it's not that easy in a match when the pressure is high because one punch could break you, but this is Ricardo. I'm sure his heart rate didn't even rise during this match
Shimbakuro had a unique way of countering the dempsey roll by simply trading punches with Ippo, though Ippo still defeated him in the end.
also dempsey roll is QUITE fast because it comes from blind spots and the way ippo does it at inhuman speeds. Ippo can also just counter you with a early dempsey and can be devasting which is why some characters won't try to stop it. Tho ricardo probably didn't feel the pressure since he has a perfect jab and never tasted ippos power
I like how Mike Tyson canonically exists in anime.
Did they mention it at any point?
@@MiguelJimenez-fs9wiwhen ricardo coach was talking about ippo he said he is kinda similar to mike tyson
BTW in the first manga of Hajime no Ippo, Mike Tyson is mentioned and Morikawa actually drew Mike Tyson! (He was mentioned where Takamura was introducing Ippo to boxing and told him that Mike Tyson was also too bullied as a child)@@MiguelJimenez-fs9wi
@@MiguelJimenez-fs9wi yes in this same sparring. Riccardo's coach says, "He's like Mike Tyson"
@@AlligatorAli They are referencing the style. He is using the peekaboo style invented by Cus D'Amato and mastered by Mike Tyson. Instead of fighting at an angle to create a slimmer profile, you square your stance with your gloves in front of your face. This allows you to slip side to side with each step you take forward, dodging as you close the gap. Very aggressive and energy intensive style, like how a shark must continue swimming forward in order to breath. You would have to have mastered incredibly quick, perfectly timed jabs to hit someone advancing in the peekaboo style.
6:13 Ricardo looking like an undeveloped boss npc 😂
Yet his punches are no laughing matter.. they’re in a another level of strong
I like the fact that only thing that is "animated" are just his arm and nothing else
He's the lyonel on breath of the wild that are harder than the darn final boss
What’s worse is he wasn’t even trying
Well when you bix you're supposed to watch the chest area to make your punches more accurate. You can see everything usually. But good technique and timing rules all in the ring.
Hajime no ippo needs another season
Facts

Ricardo é monstro, queria ver eles lutarem novamente ippo melhorou mt
Turned the Dempsey into Whack a Mole.
The ghost jab earned its name
Damn so the dude basically has a really jab with absolutely no telegraphed mistakes
The most perfect form of a left
This particular style of Ricardo, which consists of pressuring is the opposite of Ippo Ippo pressures you with his body moving forward with tight defense and tight punches (Mike Tyson style) But Ricardo is like his kriptonite, he basically counters everything with maintaining distance with a perfect right jab and hitting you with precise power Ricardo here and manga seems to use the ability he has of controlling his and his opponents pace by almost coping their leg movement so his punches always connect + the fact he uses his shoulders to maintain posture and always be centered. To win against this seemingly awkward but rather perfect by book fighter style we need to really take a page of Ippo’s book: With the tight defense like the peekaboo or just a rather high guard move constantly forward with small punches in try to not let him pick up the pace, so to conclude more of a like pressuring forward, so he gets tight up in the ropes and after that, we rather use a brawl style to not let him pick up the pace because his strongest ability is know how to pick up the pace and tempo can switch it up whenever you likes because he himself discovers what tempo is your fighting so with a brawl is always confusing and random so he would have to risk to counter while being in a position to being countered himself.
*left jab
for me it s the best anime i ever seen in my life....i am so sad cause i know manga is far ahead and they are too slow with episodes i hope they can manage to make many episodes in next years!!!!!

Victorious boxers 2 fighting spirit. Ricardo was hands down the best character to use 👊👊👊👊
Same with Hajime No Ippo PS3, he's a broken OP Character
I'm only now watching this series and I don't know if it has a definitive ending, but I hope, like real boxing this has an arc similar to what happened with boxing in the 80's and the 4 kings. Boxing legends that really have the ability to be dominate, but just happened to come up in the same era.
*Spoiler Alert* It doesn’t have a definitive ending in the Anime. Now I don’t know if the manga is still continuing but it also suffered “the author ran out of material syndrome” like Bleach and Detective Conan. Last I checked, Ippo retired cuz he’s showing signs of Parkinsons Disease.
I would suggest you to read the manga.
The manga isn’t ending anytime soon cause it’s basically just published to be cash cow kind of manga now, and Ippo is still on fuckin retirement even tho he shown to be actually fine, arcs are going nowhere either. It’s sad af the series didn’t deserve this.
@@nugget3327what about the tv show are they still doing it?

Bro just spammed jab
The level of detail, atmosphere development, drawing and technical knowledge in this anime is insane. A true work of art !
Ricardo Martinez didn't even take a back step to counter it and didn't need to guard to get exact timing to counter it. Basically, Ricardo Martinez doesn't have any blind spots to get punched.
It feels funny that in later season everyone theorises a plan to take down the Dempsey roll and the ultimate conclusion evryone even the opponent come up with was to back up a little have ippo in your vision and then land a counter whereas Ricardo in a earlier season is like nah I'd do my own thing
the scariest thing is that hes so quiet and stares like hes going to kill you on the spot
So basically this is what Michael Jai White taught Kimbo Slice in that punching video The one where they are in a trailer park / garage and MJW is telling Kimbo how much a non telegraphed punch can do wonders
Ricardo "El Finito" Lopez , the real life boxer in which ricardo martinez is inspired
“He who rules with his left rules the world.”
And that's when I knew that Ippo has a long long looooong way to go to be ready for a world title match.
Idek why Kamogawa called Ippo a brat every time 😂
I really wanna see another match between these two
Reminds me of Aizen stopping Ichigo's music 😄
Excited for their fight in the real boxing Ring in the future 🥳
If they ever animate Ricardo vs Warlee I hope someone makes a comparison video of how others react to Ricardo's perfect jab and his point of view when he determines the only effective punch vs warlee is his left. Here Ricardo only needs his left to beat ippo. Vs Warlee only his left is able to catch Warlee's insane agility and dexterity.
Series need to go on , need to see ricardo in action with ippo before i expire 😅
One of my favorite comments I read: "The difference between a national champion and a world champion"
I really would have liked to have seen Ippo and Martinez have a match.
While i was rewatching this match after watching it like 2 years ago, for some reason, My head suddenly moved when i saw his gloves becoming bigger 😲 like dude i know , my mind knows its an animation but my head still dodged

"vs" is strong word here. It was more like beating whole soul from Ippo.
They need to do an arc where it's years later and ippo is chasing to be the world champ
ippo must get to the world level
That animation when ippo doing the dempshy roll lol 😂
Ippo in world comp, would probably rank top 50 in his class
Later in the series, when Ippo went up against Gonzalez, Ricardo spoke to his manager about the upcoming fight. "The boy with the Dempsey Roll? That's a shame. If I had remembered, I would have told him (Gonzalez) to be careful." Ricardo recognized Ippo's strength and potential in that spar.

RICARDO MARTINEZ !!!!!!!!!!!
