Because it makes you agile, and trains the turning ability you get through your hips and core which helps with most all kicking, punching and elbowing techniques. Another reason is just because they're FUN. God forbid people have fun while training. *eye roll*

If you can spin your gun competently 100% of the time, you won't be dropping it just by holding it. If you can do a flying 720 roundhouse kick, chances are you're not going to fall doing a 180 hook kick in competition/on the street. Bada-boom.

  • People need to realise these kicks are for demonstrations- of course they're not practical so stop crying. But not everyone trains in a martial art to be able to kick someones head if they get into a fight. Sometimes you learn all the basics and need to challenge yourself physically. • True, most "practical" martial artists fail to see that these kicks are meant to push kicking ability to the extreme in order to be exceptionally good at the basics (leg control, speed, flexibility). They are training tools for better kicks, essentially, just like how weightlifting (which isn't practical in itself) is a training tool for stronger punches.

    • @@isaacyeon6334 nope Anderson Silva uses Wing Chun. More than tkd, and tbh I was a tkd practitioner, I'm also black belt , but really, there are only few kicks that really are powerful, but not knowing hot to use your fists, or only sparring under tkd rules , makes you useless in the Street, unless you use practice self defense in tkd class . But bare tkd in the Street isn't useful. And yes currently I'm practicing Wing Chun, and when I use it for sparring with my old friends at the tkd , they don't know how to move against a fluid martial art, tkd is rigid, wing Chun is attack and defense at the same time, and also it's more fluid and natural.

    • Nope, you're thinking about it the wrong way. Think about it this way: What is the best way to gain stronger punches? Would you just punch a heavy bag over and over with proper form? Or would you put your arm muscles in *extreme* conditions by lifting weights? You see, to strengthen your punches, the best way to go would be weight lifting. Is weight lifting applicable to a fight? No, of course not, lifting a barbell isn't directly useful for fighting at all. But it still helps you train your body to become a stronger fighter. That's what these "flashy" kicks are for: to push kicking ability to the extreme. If you want to get better at kicking, you will need to put your legs and hips in more extreme, impractical conditions. Of course these kicks are impractical; they aren't meant for fighting. They are, however, *meant to show a mastery of leg and hip control.* These flashy kicks require much more coordination, strength, and flexibility than you realize. Therefore, although these kicks would never be used in a real fight, they still can act as training tools to improve upon more practical kicks (like the simple roundhouse). In short, these kicks aren't flashy because they are just tools for training the basics of leg control, leg strength, and leg flexibility. You wouldn't do pushups in a fight, so why would you use these kicks in a fight?

  • WTF...they can't be human if they can get that much height in the air!! Damn how did they travel so high in the tornado kick?!

    @mudkipzuzu@mudkipzuzu9 жыл бұрын
    • easy. They spin so fast, makes their own personal tornado and then the wind makes them kick some how. Still working on my theory, but it might just be some sort of Asian sorcery like the movies

  • Only people talking about not practicable in fight bla bla bla, you don't know anything of martial arts, is not just kick and fight

    @iMarkStyle@iMarkStyle7 жыл бұрын
    • Yes you are right. I like to separate martial arts in Yin&Yang, the philosophy and the fight. Me, being practicer of TKD, if wouldn't make this kicks a street fight. I would use side kicks, low kicks, front kicks to have space, punches in low distance, knee... Being what bruce lee said, being basic and efficence, adapting you style, because if i see the oportunity to make a yop chagui (one of the most powerful kicks) i would make it. I hope you understand me. Sorry for my english. No style is the best style *****

      @iMarkStyle@iMarkStyle7 жыл бұрын
    • Tetsuo ikr, if you're in a real fight, why use crazy moves when all you have to do is stick to the basics, low kick, hook, block, low kick, and throw an idan dolyo, or yop chagi in the to mix, you dont memorise things when you fight, you have to think, when to strike, what to use, you train martial arts is so that you would widen your arsenal,when i joined muai-thai and TKD my fighting style have changed, now i know what to do, do i wait for an opening, or do i make an opening, what to do next, now i have a lot of tricks that i can use, not only blocks, jabs, hooks, crosses, but kicks, miro tchagui, dolyo tchagui, ect i have a trick up my sleeve for most of the time, in almost all situation, you know what to do and when to do it

      @RENO_K@RENO_K6 жыл бұрын
    • Its tkd every martial arts has their own techniques and body part uses i kno they shuldnt just use their legs but they found out it can do more damage than the fist so they used that more instead so its ok its mostly efficient anyways so not that much wrong there but they do have fist move too ok and those fist moves can break 5 wooden boards
