Finally, someone mentions the original Eleanor and the Bluesmobile! Thanks for giving these cars attention and for the presentation!
Right! Every time I mention the movie everyone ALWAYS talks about the crappy remake & some folks dont even know the original movie existed
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman The second "Gone" can't even really be considered a remake. All they did is jack up the legendary title and roll a completely different storyline under it. Lead character Madrian Pace becomes Memphis Raines. The only character name that I'm aware of that was in both movies was Atlee, played by Ribert Duvall in the second one and an actor that I don't recall in the 1974 film. The strangest thing about the character is that he somehow became white in the 26 years between the two films: he was black in '74! Madrian's love interest worked in the office with him; Memphis' was a reformed car their turned exotic car mechanic. In the first film, "Eleanor" was an orange-ish '73 Mustang sportsroof with dog-dish hubcaps, while in the later film she had morphed into an extremely fake gray Shelby GT500. The original had cameo appearances by actual, honest-to-goodness luminaries in the auto business (Parnelli Jones, J.C. Agajanian) while the second one was actors all the way, not a real car person in sight. I mean, they could have at least stolen a car or two from Jay Leno, right?😂
I love the original gone in 60 seconds movie. I rented this movie on a VHS tape back in the mid 1980's because it said on the cover over 150 cars destroyed and it has the longest Car chase ever .
Especially the former
@@corvairjim1It was considered a remake because Halicki's widow was one of the producers. They had to get her onboeardsi they could use the names.
My late husband had the '61 Rambler in the background in the movie "Its a Mad, Mad, Mad World" directed by Stanley Kramer. With Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett.
You must be so proud!
@@benfr1245 LoL!
Hey that's pretty cool though. Not trying to 1up but my folks live around the corner from Jim and Jamie Fagan (Jim rip) Trust me you've heard em they did thousands of voice overs in the 60s. Ms Fagan gave me a couple of autographed cds a few years back. Alas ,she's getting a little older but can still carry a tune quite well!
😏
if you list all the stars in that movie it would read like a novel. lol
You could make this series go forever with all of the movie and TV show cars that have come and gone over the years.
What about Dirty Mary crazy Larry that's a hell of a car chase movie or The Seven-Ups that's a good one
The car chase(s) in the Seven Up's were Amazing! I believe that they did the chase cum race with the Subway overhead was unrehearsed and that they didn't close the road, underneath the EL, out in the East Bronx (or poss Brooklyn?). I do recall that going up the West Side Drive / Henry Hudson Parkway, Roy Scheider totaled that Pontiac by piling it into a guard rail divider - Jaysus!
@@jamesmcdonnell5617 All of the main cars in those movies were ravaged. The only one left running in the movies was Bill Hickman's 1973 Pontiac Grandville.
@@jeffrobodine8579 I think I got it wrong, Jeff. I juxtaposed the subway chase scen frome 'The French COnnection' upon the 'Seven-Ups'. The former was when Popey Dyle (Gene Kackman) ran his -Yes, same again, a Pontiac LeMans sedan I believe - out along New Utrecht Avenue in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Conta posto, 'The Seven-Ups' chase scenes were predominantly done in Uptown Manhattan - West 96th Street, then over the GWB, over into Jersey, up onto the Palisades Interstate Parkway and in New York on the Taconic State Parkway and the Saw Mill (River Parkway). The weird thing, of course, is that the crash scene is ostensibly located on the Palisades Interstate Parkway but the exit sign is for Briarcliff Manor over on the Saw Mill / Taconic (NY State) where the parked trailer sheers the top off Scheider's Pontiac Ventura. Philip D'Antoni was a consultant on 'The French Connection' to director, William Friedkin and a producer on all three whilst Director on 'The Seven-Ups', a once off. Combined, the homage to Sonny Grosso, 'The French Connection' and 'The Seven-Ups' , with 'Bullit', are singular examples of the pinnacle of 1960s and early '70s car chase scenes in a movie.
Cannonball 1976 is my favorite of all. David Carradine and the red 1973 Trans Am!
Watched that the other night on Tubi, loved those old cars. the 70s were the pinnacle of car chase movies.
Eleanor was billed at the top. The car really was the star of the movie. Actually touched it. It was at a showing of the movie in Dallas. H.B Halicki used it in promoting the movie. It wasn't roped off or anything. People were more respectful of property back then.
I love that movie
@@christophertaylor2464 Still the #1 Car chase of ALL time. I have the movie CD of both the original "Bone in 60 seconds" and the remake. Remake was OK but always thought the original was better (chase) not acting.
That was brilliant, especially the information about McQ which is perhaps the least celebrated of the so called "car chase movies". What about a video on Ryan O'Neal's The Driver - surely one of the very best car chase movies ever made!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have never heard of McQ but I might have to try and find that one to watch.
@@christophertaylor2464That be the late Steve McQueen in the movie Bullet with the car chase involving the Mustang and the Dodge Charger.
And let's not forget the Valiant(s) used in Duel...
I think they were Plymouth valiant's
My oldest brother looked just like Steve McQueen & drove a light bronze Fastback Stang in HS. R.I.P. Robert James💔🕊️🥀
What a great video! The time literally flew by! I could have kept watching if more cars were in the video. Thanks for the updates on the cars and some great memories of these films.
Glad to know you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment!
That's so cool. Love Bullit and Vanishing Point.
After the film Smoky and the Bandit, Pontiac made the offer to gift Burt a brand new Trans Am, every year for the rest of his life. Pontiac reneged on the offer a few year later.
Of course they did. That's GM for ya...
I had thought that it had something to do with the way the promo exec from GM did the deal.... something like "I'll have a new one shipped to you every year from here on in out of my offices budget" or something like that... and then he used the "I got the T/A in Smokey" achievement to get a higher profile job somewhere else... and yeah GM didn't honor the deal, but there was something shady that happened first.... haha
That’s true, as Burt told it Pontiac sent him a new one every year because they liked his movies. It stopped in the late 80’s because the new head of Pontiac said “I don’t like your movies”
Regarding 'stunt man Mikes' death proof cars, I see that they both had 'Duck' hood ornaments on them. Which look like the 'duck' hood ornament off the 'Rubber Duck' truck in the movie 'Convoy'.
Yep noticed them too. First thing i thought
That's absolutely intentional, Tarantino did it as a nod to convoy
Yes sir, those are the convoy rubber ducks
Great video. best movie cars. For me, 1970 Dodge Challenger driven by Kowalski.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you!
12:01 ... I want to know what happened to the third star of Bullitt, the green Volkswagen that they passed about a dozen times in the big chase scene.
Good Question! Allegedly, James Garner drove it in the film. Anybody know what happened to it?
😂😂😂😂👍
Legend has it, its still slowly driving around San Francisco!
After drinking some beer, Steve McQueen jumped it over the barbed-wire fence just to prove that he could have done the stunt for the movie if the studio had let him!
@@ronframe387 Yep driving in slow circles around the block !
The French Connection chase was my favorite car chase scene ever..
back in high school 2001 a friend of mine had a ragged out 73 mustang, 351W and automatic. the car barely ran when he drove it home, we did a tune up and rebuilt the original holley 4bbl and WOW that ugly old mustang sho nuff woke up!! We wrapped the speedo past 120 a couple times and it would fry the tires on demand! I had a 81 camaro with a mildly upgraded 350 and my car would just only slightly out run it. we was impressed with how well the stock ol stang ran, the engine finally threw a rod from so much teenager driving and dogging it out . fun times!!
The Bullit mustang was on display at La May museum in Tacoma years ago. Looked pretty sweet.
At LAST somebody talked about the original Eleanor...
In high school, one of my friends told me a Burt Reynolds movie was being made in the area his dad’s family lives. His uncle sold an engine from a GTO n his lot, to go into a Trans Am stunt car because they blew up its engine. A few months later, my first date with a girl from work was to see Smokey . Early in the run, so none of the excitement had started yet. We agreed it was a good movie
My great-great aunt was the biggest Burt Reynolds fan in the world. Her grandson was publisher of _Cosmopolitan_ when they did the Burt Reynolds centerfold where Burt was wearing nothing but his body hair and a strategically placed hand. He sent her a life-size print of the picture and she had it placed over her nursing home room door. First thing she saw in the morning and the lasst thing she saw when she went to sleep. I'm fairly sure Aunt Sal was at the Gates of Glory at the head of the clusters of screaming welcoming committee upon Burt's arrival.
But imagine paying $600,000 for a mid-'70s fake muscle car.
I love the movies, especially the 80s! Love them 80s baby!!🙂😯💖💯🤍👍!
I'd love to know whereabouts of the Green VW Beetle from Bullitt, it had more screen time than either of the cars that were in the chase, as it was in every scene, it's probably still rolling around SF somewhere.
Nah, it's a Beetle, problably were scraped or catched fire...
The McQ T/A made a huge impression on me as a kid when watching the movie back in the day...so sexy...in fact I made a model of it so I could admire it. broke my heart to see it crushed in the movie...but typically featured cars in movies tend to get destroyed as a plot device (except Gran Torino). A '73 Brewster Green T/A is on my bucket list.
Wow, what a group of cars.
Without a doubt the Interceptor and the 68' Fastback GT are the baddest of the bad!
Wonderful video 👌🏻 One car I miss is the legendary Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy who loved me.
In 2001 I was driving through San Francisco and sitting in front of a gas station at angle to each other, facing the road were the Dodge Charger and the Ford Mustang from Bullit! I did a double take and could not believe what I was seeing! It was not a car dealership or even a car show yet there they were. It was downtown and on a one-way street, that's all I can remember.
An evergreen subject for sure.. thank you, another great one that comes to mind is the '6 underground' car chase, great video, keep it up.
I wish Dodge would give me 5 alpine white 440 challengers to thrash the you know what out of! Check out a little Aussie gem called Running on Empty, called Fast Lane in US I think….blown 57 Chevy, Rammed Challenger, 351 GTHO Ford Falcon 👍
One movie that featured car chases was Its a mad, mad, mad world. Too many cars to mention, but it has many car chases and wrecks.
I agree. The '62 black Dodge that Capt. Culpepper (Spencer Tracy) drove was my favorite. Tried to build a model of it, but you wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find that year model car these days. Finally found one but it took a while.
The fact that the TRUE hero car of Gone in 60 Seconds still drove, many years later, looking like a Demolition Derby survivor....priceless !!
EXCELLENT Video,We NEED more LIKE This 😊
Great video I'd love to have every one of those cars but if I had my true choice I'd take the 73 super duty Trans Am
Great video. Gracias!!!!
the pinnacle of all car chase movies has always been and will always be The Blues Brothers
great movie cars
Also, many years ago I had read that the hero car in Gone in 60 Seconds was shredded due to it being a little too close to the movies storyline. There is of course no way to confirm that, but it’s definitely odd that it was scrapped.
THANK YOU YOU TUBE FOR SHOWING THESE OLD MOOVIES, I AM OLD SCHOOL, I LOVE ALL THESE CAR CHACE MOVIES !!!❤❤❤❤
Two Lane Blacktop is one of my favorite movies....yes, I'm a car guy.
Finally some love for McQ! That Brewster Green '73 T/A S-D is, to me, the tastiest Pontiac ever built! I was a dedicated Chevy guy (all of 10 years old) when I first saw it in a theater, but that movie opened my eyes to other brands, too. OK, I'm still primarily a Chevy man (Corvairs in particular, believe it or not!), but I have respect for other brands, too, especially GM, but Mopar and AMC as well. Fords, on the other hand... well... not so much. 😂
that was a great list
Thank you for taking the time to comment and glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, this was fun! My favorite is the 1970 Dodge Challenger.❣️ She is beauty AND the beast! MOPAR TO YOU!😎
Very cool thanks for your time 😊
One of those Death Proof Novas are in San Diego now. That stuntman let his son bring it to JBA Speed Shop’s Coffee&Cars a few times.
My friend's cousin restored that '55 Chevy from 2 Lane Blacktop in Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada a few years back. Bought it cheap and sold it for a good profit. He's a total gearhead.
There was a episode of the TV cop show, Blue Bloods, that "supposedly" had the Bullitt car in it. It aired at least 6 years ago. Thanks for posting...............
And thank you. For McQ. ❤🙏
I like the green 73 Trans Am the best.
I own the 1983 white on white Ford LTD coupe used in 1988's Mac and Me, famously appearing 3 times going three different directions in the same scene. And yes, i do bring a podium and a posterboard with screen caps from the movie and the story of how i found it to every car show i bring it to.
Great video , my favourite is the 55 Chevy from two lane black top. If there is a honourable mention the blacked with flames 55 Chevy from the movie “sometimes they come back” Steven king flick is a fabulous car in it own right . Cheers 🇨🇦
I actually saw one of the original bullet cars. From the movie bullet, it was a 68 Dodge Charger. Still had the camera holds back in the back.
My brother and I met erin Gray when she was in Louisville Kentucky for a car show or something, i forget what it was for sure. Anyway, we weren't even in line to meet her, but she us saw us and called us over. We chatted for a minute or two. Of course, this was before cell phones, but I had a camera and took pictures of her with my brother. I don't know if he still has the pictures. She was very nice and much prettier than what she looked like on the show.
Great videos
Its more painful to watch stuff like this now than back in the day when these cars were plentiful. Who back would have ever thought that one day that all cars would be funny shaped goofy looking computerized plastic junk, and damn near impossible to work on?
Best car ever.. also included in many of theses clips.. is the mustang
Great article, please produce more stories like this.
It is incredibly painful to see a classic get demolished in any film. I pray every single time they’re just body kits… Of course.. you can’t spell Carnage without car.
I know. Every time i unexpectedly see a classic car in a movie, I look at my gf and say "I hope it doesn't get crashed". And of course, sooner or later in the movie, it gets crashed. It makes it worse when it happens early on it the movie so I know most of the movie I won't see it again :(
Love the blues mobile saw it at the Volo Car Museum
I always thought the Charger was swapped out for a '67 Camaro for the explosion in Bullitt, but that zoomed in shot definitely has a Charger profile
One of the 2LBT '55's was also used in an episode of Adam-12 before American Graffiti. I think it was the Hero car.
Vanishing Point has some really great sound clips of the older style glasspack mufflers. I'm using 8 inch Summit Racing glasspacks. These are loud and I like the tone but they don't sound quite as good as the older style glasspacks. Does anybody still make a genuine late 1960's or early 1970's style glasspack?
Very rarely you can find new old stock glasspack mufflers from the 60's and 70's.
I remember my dad having original Cherry Bomb glass packs on his ‘67 GTX when I was a kid in the 70’s, and yes, they had a different sound. It was a 440/727 Torqflite car with a 3.73 sure grip rear end and was unfortunately crushed by a huge oak tree in ‘95 thanks to Hurricane Opal. I was stationed in Germany and my mom sent me the pics which made me physically sick considering it was eventually going to end up mine one day.😢
Shuttleworth Exhaust in London, Ontario Canada can make any sound you want. They expertly rebuilt some original 1960s mufflers for me, and worked with me on sound choices. Ask for Dean. Good luck with your project.
The classic Aston Martin DB-5 may be THE best movie car ever. Those body lines are incredible. Gorgeous car!!!
Now i'm wondering about the DBS from Casino Royale
and 30 years from now Baby Driver, NFS, the numerous F&F films, and many more will get this same type of video
Glad to hear at least there's one surviving Bullitt Charger around. Love the Mustang but have always wondered about the black Charger. Would love to see more of it.
@user-yc2oz8kc5k, black was not a color option for '68 Dodge Charger R/T. The new owner screwed up and repainted it to yellow, the original color and ruined the car's value.
I own a Bullitt, 78 Bandit and a General Lee replica
Hey my grandpa gave me his light orange Pontiac gto that the exact same as what I'm seeing here I kept it clean it's in prefect condition my gramps said he got it from a magazine or something when I was 7 and I made it I'm every day driver car I love it
That merits heavy research
Get a MARTI report on the cars VIN #.
Speaking of Route 66, what happened to that Vet? And of course, the iconic Batmobiles!
Gone in 60 seconds the REAL from 1974 is a DIAMOND !
While I always enjoyed watching car chases with classic cars, it also made me cringe that these beautiful cars were destroyed. 😢
so sad
It makes challenging to save these car too. It is cheaper to by a new one and make a replica. The replica will be fit and street legal.
If you watch the Bond film Skyfall, you’ll see the scene with the DB5 being destroyed by heavy, sustained gunfire, but that was actually a replica created specifically to be shot up.
Thanks
Reminds me of my red “Tabby” 2010 Challenger love the muscle cars ❤
🍀Great job 😎✌️
🏆
What happened to the green VW Beetle from Bullit? It appears many times as an "extra" 🙂
Yellow.
I wonder what ever happened to the truck from Mr Majestic?
It was infested with ants from all of the watermelons in back.
I always liked the charger in bullet more than the mustang I hope that one in Germany is a real one from the movie to be put with the mustang together!!
I'd still like to have figured out where any the three Dodge Charger RT's ended up at.
The five 1970 Dodge Challengers R/T's from the Original Movie Vanishing Point and three 1970 Plymouth Satellite Sedans and three 68 Dodge Polara's sedans were Crushed as per the Studio Head Hogs ... The 1997 made for TV Movie? Those Challengers are in a private Collection..
I read about the vanshing challengers and they said the cars were so powerful that they were difficult to control! I can imagine that for sure with a big block and a 4 speed and driving the way they did in the film! heck my small block 5 speed chevelle will get away from ya with no where near the power of a 440!
Milner yellow coupe in American graffiti is my favorite beside the general lee,the fall guy's truck,Christiane,Sandford and son truck,57 chevy return Macon county, the list of all the great cars could go on
What happened to the green VW beetle in BULLIT ? In the chase scene the car was passed 4 times .
And I thought I was the only person that noticed that 😂...
Love the show, but I believe that the Dodge Challenger that was used in Vanishing point got a raw deal, it should have been saved, love the car, that was cool in its own right.
Mopar Collectors Guide did a feature on the original Vanishing Point Challengers a few years back. They interviewed one of the surviving filming crew members and he said that, just as your video stated, the cars were scrapped by Chrysler after filming. According to the article, Chrysler's PR guys were so infuriated that their cars had been used to promote illegal drug use and running from the police, they refused anyone the chance to keep the cars and destroyed all of them.
The Bullitt car was dubbed over using engine sounds from a Ford GT at Lemans
Yes....and the Dodge Charger seemingly had an 18 speed gearbox! (based on the ridiculous number of gear changes it did in the movie)
As James Bond Daniel Craig pulled his classic Aston Martin DB-5 out of storage in the film SKYFALL. Bond made good use of the machine guns before the car was sacrificed to take down the helicopter gunship.
It doesn't matter if they used 1 car or 50! In these movies! We know it's only supposed to be 1 they drive! But it always makes me angry! When they destroy them! In the movie! But this video is fantastic! And I liked most of these movies!
I met the guy ..army soldier who owned the MQ transam.. bought it in Alaska in 1975... still had the dirt in it. brake lights disabled.. drove it to NC... souped it up..and then crashed it trying to outrun the police... this was back in 2007 when we began talking about the new Dodge challenger. I didn't know about the movie so he actually gave me a vhs copy of the movie.. He claims there were only 2 cars where one was crushed...
Pontiac firebird trans am 455 super duty my all time favorite Pontiac 👍
One of the surviving Bluesmobiles was owned by John Belushi
Anyone who couldn't get enough '68 McQueen Mustang engine sound effects (like me) will certainly recognize the outrageous over-dub by the producers of the McQ Trans Am scenes using these "sacred sounds". What an insult. BTW, several episodes of the TV series "Mannix" also used our "sacred sounds" to make his 'Cuda seem more powerful and exciting than it's 225 cu.in.6cyl ever could. McQueen Rules!!!
I have just relized that I got old.
It always drove me nuts that Mad Max’s car had a supercharger pulley that never spun! At least try to make that blower look functional!
A local in my area imported an Australian 1974 Ford Falcon and made it into the Mad Max car with a working Weiand blower on top of the 351C motor.
Either the Blower works or it doesn't you can't turn it off or on... Plus the Original didn't have a Functioning blower... It had Dual Four Barrels inside the Blower so they could run it off a Switch... If memory is correct it was spun by a starter and extra battery...
I've know of one of the McQ cars. It's owned by a gentleman east of LA who happened to be Wayne's stunt stand in.
I thought I saw a Brewster Green Trans Am on Ebay not too long ago.

I didn't know Steve McQueen played in bullet, actually Steve lived in my town when he was a kid. so that's one way of telling people where I live
When I was in Indiana I got to see the cop car from the Andy Griffith show
All of that and I only know of 3 of these movies/cars... perhaps a volume 2 is in order for "After the Action: The Fate of 10 Movie Car Chase Icons"
I’ve always been suspicious of the surviving Bullit Mustangs. I wondered why no one’s ever matched the VIN#’s against Ford sales records, wouldn’t that tell definitively if it was real? The same goes for the Shelby Mustang Jim Morrison owned that also disappeared
That's been done in the case of the Bullitt cars.
Because they were not bought from the Factory always... They got them from regular dealerships usually used... Now there is a story on one of the old movies where they Barrowed a motor from a dealership or rental car place and then put it back in the car and returned it like the following Monday...lol
@@chiefwillyj5486that was quite common in the 60s, my grandfather said guys would go to Hertz and rent a high performance mustang and pull and replace the engine, especially with the gt350 cars.
@@chiefwillyj5486 True, but I’d think dealerships would still have VIN# records that would be required to be sent to the manufacturer for their records
