I tried to run a "hotel", and it almost works, I just happened to get sued 3 times for it...

  • So far I absolutely cannot imagine trying to have a family while playing as a landlord lol, imagine trying to micromanage a toddler and an infant while having to run between tenants and managing revolts all day

    • @@Frenchaboo mold is an optional challenge, he also made it hotel style to drive people to the common areas. I am sure if they have their own full homes and you go light on lot challenges it will change a lot of gameplay.

It's one thing to let them have some authority, it's another to have them completely controlling the system and having no power to stop them from exploiting that.

  • I read that if you put the water heater and electrical outlet in the shared space together they will power all the rooms rather than putting one in each room to be powered individually. This might save you time not having to repair them so often if that tip was actually true. Also lilsimsie also said her game was bugged and she wouldn’t get paid the rent either so hopefully that gets fixed before launch because that’s a huge bug..

  • I am super surprised that no one has mentioned the relationships with tenants yet besides James. Now my biggest concern or a idea that would be helpful is having a filter that says "tenant/property" something along the lines to seperate the tenants/families in the propertis from just friends/families if that makes sense? It would crowd my sims relationship panel lol.

  • If you hire a maid, will they clean ALL the rooms? Can't you lock the customers out of your room so they don't annoy you. I never considered making a hotel. Thought it was just going to be apartments. I love the idea of a hotel!

    • For something like that, wouldn’t it make more sense for there to be a notification that there aren’t enough beds in the unit, or a complaint from the sims in the unit? Rather than them breaking into another occupied unit to use their utilities lol

  • As someone who once worked in the leasing office for a guy who rents out properties, that frustration you were feeling from having no money, tenants breaking everything, and then not paying you is 100% realistic. Let me tell you, I have HORROR stories. They had a tenant once who was breeding black widow spiders in the unit, among other infractions of the unhygienic variety. They basically had to take that unit down to the studs and get rid of the spiders themselves because local exterminators wouldn’t do it because of liability if an employee got bit. And of course the guy didn’t pay them a cent. Property management is a precarious balancing act between the good tenants who pay you and the spiderguys who cost you tens of thousands in damages. 😬

    • ​@@Amber-hf8uoi think people just want affordable housing, where the average person can afford to own property instead of paying unsustainable amounts to a landlord who doesnt even put in any effort into the state of the building. The problem usually isnt with landlords who have a couple places for rent, but rather with these massive landlords who are purposefully leaving apartments emty to drive up demand and therefore price, while neglecting the tennants, as well as safety and welfare rules and regulations

I’ve seen some stances like housing should be free and while I wish that were the case, I just feel like it’s an impossible ask in this kind of capitalist society. I do think the standards for landlords should be higher, including fixing units like you mentioned. I just don’t know that I believe all landlords are inherently bad. That seems like such a huge assumption.

  • It's morelike communal living. Lots of dense cities have big buildings the you rent the room and share the kitchen, living room and sometimes there is a big communal bathroom. Looking forward to playing with all the expansions.

    • Eh it can be used for both which is why they went with calling them residential rentals instead of apartments or just communal living. Because it can be either/or with how the system is built.

    • The system is designed to be flexible, so you can build self contained apartments or comunal living like you described. James is pushing it a bit by using it to run a hotel, but he knows that's not what it's really designed for.

    • @@gabrielandy9272 I do know that hotels have cleaners, and I'm sure James does too. The for rent system isn't designed for running hotels and doesn't have a system for hiring staff. This is just a fun video idea to show the new game pack, it doesn't need to be perfectly realistic.

  • I wonder if we as the landlord can hire a maid, and they can access each 'lot'? If not then I need to get a maid lot trait or something. I want to be able to offer my luxury high maintence sims free cleaning, like service apartments in city living.

    • You can send handy people to the lots to deal with any issues that appear, you don’t have to attend yourself. I don’t think there’s a specific maid one though

  • This looks a lot more fun to play than what was shown on the playthrough from the Sims team, which is great. Seems like you’re kept busy a lot. I’m wondering if there’s an easier way to remember what unit is what…like an identification for the door? Also seems like a great challenge for Semaj to have to manage 99 rentals, lol…just regular apartments not a hotel. Thanks, James! (Also looking forward to someone making a ‘hotel’ mod that makes it work easier to have people stay for different amounts of time and be checking in/leaving at the end of their stay…like 1 to 14 days or something…oh, Carl? Helloooo? Or any great modder?) Also, really hope it works and doesn’t slow down too much when it’s installed with every pack!
