  • As an ichthyologist, I can say with certainty that the “dolphin salamander thing” is a species of Anguillidae, AKA freshwater eel, (although that name is misleading as many are catadromus) native to New Zealand of the genus Anguilla and species dieffenbachii. Common names may vary for this species, but I believe the are often referred to as New Zealand longfin eels.

The money comes from stocks in Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet's company) that her deceased husband left her. This 1Billion Dollar Donation will enable need-blind acceptance to a great medical school and hopefully create many more doctors from traditionally marginalized populations. Instead of building rockets for her friends, she is making a significantly positive difference in the world. Let's respect and celebrate her unbridled generosity. Also, folks, there are bots on this channel. They push out negative and stupid comments. Often they aren't good at spelling and don't actually know anything. Please ignore them.

After I thought about it more, thought that paying for half of their tuitions would have been better, to then help twice as many people. Lifts a TON of pressure off them. But still lets them feel like they accomplished it on their own and lets them learn what its like to pay off student loans teaching them how the real world work cuz no matter how smart these doctors are they still cant handle finances time and time again. Still amazing regardless just it being amazing to twice the people seams like a better move.

    • @@BillyJupiter Some freshwater eels aren't actually related to actual eels (ex: the electric eels, which is actually a type of knifefish related to catfish and carp). That may likely be the reason for its odd appearance. But for its behavior, it seems to be like that of a mudskipper or goldfish (since wild goldfish and similar species like koi are commonly fed by humans and end up seeing them as their primary food source). Also, the longfin part of their name refers to their tails, and there's a shortfin variety as well.

    • It's a nice generous gesture, Yes. I hate to say it but even if the billionaire never donated the money those kids have already succeeded in life. They're getting a high quality education out of nice accredited school going into prestigious medical career fields. Even if they have debt after graduating they will have well paying jobs to pay it off. Don't let them fool you with the students joy. The money technically is not going to the students it's going to another millionaires account. It's also sad because instead of fixing the problem of student debt, this is just a cover up. Or should we all depend on private wealthy citizens to "fix" the problems of our society instead of our elected officials. At the end of the day it's a good deed and your giving the kids a head start in their post graduate life. I guess now they can use the money saved into a better home or car. Maybe some students will be motivated to donate to the less fortunate, like those that don't even have access to an education.
