Color me surprised as well, but a recent survey showed that a *large* minority of *young* evangelicals believe gay people should have equal rights, and not be discriminated against. A smaller number, but not insignificant, don't have a problem with gay marriage. Apparently, the surrounding secular culture, and the newfound visibility of the LGBTQ+ community has changed views substantially in the church, in just the last 20 years. I think you'd get another response on the subject of trans people, but there's time to fix their broken views there, too. It'll just take longer. Even Trump had always historically been supportive of gay rights, at least before he became President. But he's always been a rather open transphobe.

    • I get **the feeling** it is too just from having lived the entirety of my life in the South and having noticed a pretty subtle, yet substantial shift from the 90's->now where the people I was acquainted with who both qualified for a "somewhat backwards" label & also spoke freely around me pretty much completely abandoning a previously commonplace rhetoric drenched with active contempt for all things conceivably gay. That inner bigotry still probably remains, sure, but I think it's pretty telling that now anytime I've been around anyone who uses "offensive slurs" and/or says "gay" as an insult does it in a way that's closer to how Louis CK uses those words & not attached to any actual denouncing of literal homosexuality/etc. Progress happens slowly & I'm more than happy if mere "tolerance" universally takes hold here in a relatively short timeframe, which people way more liberal than me can't wrap their minds around and throw fits over the suggestion. 🙄

      @kurtilingus@kurtilingus2 жыл бұрын
    • @@willsofer3679 And why should that be surprising? Jesus taught us to love everyone, not just people who didn't agree with us. He ate with tax collectors and sinners. Those who have treated Gay people with disrespect are Christian in name only and they still don't know it, because they forgot that love is the founding principle of Christianity. Plus it should be noted that the one verse that supposedly discourages homosexuality in the bible was MISTRANSLATED purposely by homophobes. The original translation of that exact verse was specifically talking about pedophiles, not gay people. You also need to consider the fact that many bigots in the past have purposely misconstrued and altered the bible for their own agenda. I'm a lesbian and I'm a Christian, and I'm telling you right now, the bad name Christianity has in the modern era is mostly due to those selfish jerks who feel like only they can determine what Jesus wants by their own power.

And there have been more recent studies that show closer integration at squad levels helps with a 'them and us' problem. Women can be incredible muti-taskers and are technically proficient. Women are often seen as less threatening to a local if approached by a heavily armed squad on patrol which has proven invaluable in forging a connection with local populations on overseas duties. • truth If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined attraction. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of our species & found commonplace in nature. Intelligent research in this area clearly explains this process. If you are truly interested in truth, based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for yourself & others, that you are entitled to, this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by men that had no understanding of science, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. The public must be exposed to facts & knowledge. It is an obligation for those who know the truth & must defend it. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

In short: Being lgbtq shouldn't be something you have to give special attention to; it shouldn't even be worth mentioning outside of dating or when talking to friends/family about it.

    • My unbiased opinion...J.O. is an entertainer, and Pence is a politician. Not sure why you would laugh at the sales stats, obviously a popular entertainment figure will sell a better book than a low energy unknown politician like pence. I would consider myself a conservative, but JO is still much more funny and entertaining to me than pence. So I guess you can laugh at that fact too because it's the same comparison? Kind of common sense. But let's be honest...john is just a plucky brit that makes yt videos, and pence is actually in charge of something. If I was a resentful little asshole I guess I would laugh about that, but I'm not.

    • evan strain One could argue Mike Pence has better things to do than to keep propping up anti-LGBT+ hatemongers, but clearly his VP position isn’t keeping him busy enough. Oh, and The VPOTUS did not write the _Marlon Bundo_ book(s); his daughter, Charlotte, did. As background, one of her majors at DePaul University was Digital Cinema (telling motion picture stories through use of digital technology) and the other was English. She works at a production company. To think she (and her mom/2nd Lady, who provides the illustrations) released this book *_not_*_ to make money or to _*_not_*_ provide entertainment_ is curiously asinine. Also, Oliver’s book - besides his cheeky, “piss off Pence” reason - has the additional intent of helping to fund charities, while I see no such admirable disclaimer on Ms. Pence’s book’s product detail page on amazon.com. So, despite Oliver’s “entertainment” team clearly taking a tongue-in-cheek shot at the VP, at least they’re doing something worthwhile with 100% of their book’s proceeds.

    • knowledge If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Peace

  • My best friend since I was 7 is gay. His dad freaked out and hit him when he found gay porn on the computer and his dad finally came around but it took his whole childhood until he was 17-18. I never truly had a problem with gay people but when I was 13 a close family member suspected I was gay because of my best friend, and told me “all gay people should die”. It’s sad because looking back, what if I ended up being gay- I might’ve been disowned- at least for my teenage years- which would’ve been traumatizing. And so I repeated to my gay friend as a 13 year old “all gay people should die”. And man did I get a talking to. 2003 was a different time and I was told at a young age that it was bad, and yet my best friend was gay and he was one of the best people I’ve ever known. So glad I didn’t end up being uncomfortable with my sexuality- because I think that’s where all the uncomfortableness comes for many people- which turns to hatred- and hatred is never good, never good for anyone. Anyway I hope I didn’t just sound like a bigot. I’ve written songs in support of the lgbtq community, I’ve been to wild lgbtq parties and have performed at lgbtq events. To think a family member could’ve scared me into being uncomfortable about my sexuality, which could’ve lead to hatred- it’s not who I am but it happens to people and I’m just so grateful it didn’t happen to me.

Some were confused how a boy could want to marry a boy. So we talked about different kinds of love and how they are all love. And they had the sweetest responds (Love is like favourite food. Because I am happy eating Watermelon and thats why I love Watermelon). The book also seems to resonate with some of the kids. Two of "my" children can be on the other side of the room and play. The second they hear a Marlon Bundo phrase they drop whatever they are doing and listen. And when we elected the "Gruppensprecher" (the child representing the group) they remembered the election in the Book. So well done! The book is a treasure and we love it! :)

    • truth not dogma If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Peace

    • It was a bit of both. In many regards Pence is a fairly typical socially conservative politician. He isn't as straight-up crazy or incompetent as Trump was; if he were in charge he might have been able to evade some of the inept blundering that characterized the Trump administration. But for precisely the same reasons, he likely would have also been a lot more proactive, more effective, in pushing a socially conservative agenda. Which could have very well been worse.

    • Răzvan Rădoiu / The Pepsi and Coke analogy is perfect. The analogy here is preferring to date men (as a man, gay) and preferring to date women (as a man, straight). One of your loved ones could prefer Pepsi when you yourself prefer Coke, but it still has nothing to do with you. The only reason you're okay with someone liking Pepsi is because a book written by men in the Middle East tells you that a man in the sky says it's "wrong." I always wonder why straight people get so huffy about gay people and marriage. They aren't being forced into a gay relationship so what's the harm? Edit: typo correction

Yet they support Roy Moore, who pursued underage girls, they support Trump who has had affairs with porn stars, allegedly raped a teenager and has said horrible things like being able to grab women's genitles because he's rich and famous. The mental gymnastics these bigots have to do to justify their warped beliefs must be exhausting for them.
