  • Yes, that a pretty decent way to rule out a thermostat issue. I was kind of looking for a good way / tool to measure coolant flow to diagnose if the water pump is bad and not circulating coolant. Currently this is not an issue for me. But it's one component I don't have a tester to know for sure without removing and inspecting.

  • After a new water pump radiator cap and 3 new thermostats, it stayed closed again. Took it out after busting a hole in both upper and lower radiator hoses. Read through 1000s of comments against doing it. Bought myself a week till my new radiator came. After putting it in the old 1 didnt look bad at all. Found a short in a fan wire which made it look like it was working coming on sometimes then off when cooled down a bit. Now they are both running and its super cold. Guess i will reinstall that dam thermostat, just letting yall know whats up. If you have too, do it and figure it out till you get it right again. 💯🔥

    • My Ford Ranger coolant pipe going to the top of the radiator is at high pressure and pipe feels like it want to explode. What may be the cause?

      @ivankaiser3794@ivankaiser3794 Жыл бұрын
    • Thank you! On your Ford Ranger, hard to say without knowing how pressurised the hose is. They can get pretty firm under heat/pressure but should not be crazy-firm. If the car is overheating, or if there is unusual activity during heating then an airlock in the system could be a possibility as the coolant is not cycling. But if everything is working perfectly, no overheating etc then it could be normal? It really depends on how firm that hose is. Best of luck! --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome! • What happens often on older vehicles is the thermostat works fairly normal except it won't close up completely and thereby causes the engine to never make it to correct operating temperature that the computer is looking for. The idle stays fast because it thinks it's still warming up, it runs richer because it thinks it still warming up, and your heat is weak.

  • Question: on a 2014 Passat 1.8T (ETKA). Upper radiator hose gets hot and tight (barely compressible). Raditatior has a leak and both the primary and secondary fans are not cycling on. Radiator will be replaced, along with upper and lower coolant hoses, both coolant sensors, thermostat, along with heater core. All was original, and I have the interior taken apart anyway, might as well. Anything that I might be forgetting? Another mechanic said to wait before replacing the fans; suggested that the coolant sensor that sends the signal for the fan to come on may be faulty and to wait before spending the money. The entire fan assembly can be easily replaced without draining the coolant (4 screws and 2 electrical connectors and it lifts up and out). Your thoughts?
