ik this is a joke video but i still wanna say: i could literally not care less about graphics as long as it looks decent. partly because i've been stuck with the crappiest computer to ever exist and have to play lower graphics games or else my house will catch on fire but really i only care if a game's fun. like how are you gonna be complaining about "oh that blood splatter wasn't 100% accurate to how it would've actually went like in real physics" when you're having the time of your life

Ngl, I've seen games from Subnautica all the way down to Rimworld, and old-school Dwarf Fortress, and middle grounds like Gmod and Deep Rock Galactic and all I can say is, YES, ABSOLUTELY YES, idc if the game looks pristine or dog sh- as long as it is good in general quality I'm vibing with it.

Honestly the only even remotely bad pixel art I have seen in an indie game are some of the overworld sprites in undertale
i was fully prepared to hear some AAA ceo tell me that indie games all suck and that instead of playing them i need to play their barely finished shooter that only runs on computers with the gigatron-8000 hardware but then you hit me with "i dont know what this graph means but i hope it agrees with me" and immediately knew this was satire
I also like when a low graphics indie game doesn't run on the same PC that runs AAA games.

This is a masterpiece. 8 times out of ten a 2d game has won over a 3D game for me because shit those stories are crazy good. If you haven’t played Inmost I strongly suggest it. Also The Final Station has an awesome story
At least indie games aren't launched with approximately 15 million glitches, because the studio didn't have enough time and just wanted to profit off the hype for their game
sorry to say it but even some indie games can suffer from that, hell, sometimes as much as some of AAA games

I can barely open Steam without a hundred pretentious indie "AAA demakes" (or 'parody games' as I call them) oozing their ugly lacklustre gunk all over my screen. Why on earth would I ever buy a reasonably priced, intelligent, unique, heartfelt passion project when I can lay down seventy quid on the latest iteration of the same game I bought last year but with fancier weapon skins and funnier victory dances? What am I, an idiot? Just because these "developers" failed to get real jobs at real studios, we're expected to give them money to support their "independent" delusions of grandeur. It's borderline obscene. Thanks for shining some light on this important but often ignored blight on the industry...

At one point when I was in middle school, my younger brother said he's thinking of buying Terraria. I told him semi-jokingly that if he gets a 2D game he's dead to me. A couple of weeks later, I've seen enough to make me want to give it a shot as well. I now have 200+ hours in Terraria. I've played through the entire game twice, both times together with my brother. Since then I've mostly been playing 2D games of all sorts (Limbo, Dead Cells, Starbound, Carrion, Darkwood, and so so many others) and they have given me some of the most beautiful and unforgettable experiences I've ever had with a game. I still like 3D games too (Dark Souls, Sekiro, Journey, lots of first-person games etc), but I am much more open to any type of game now; I'll literally play anything.

I actually clicked on the video expecting a hot take that I'd totally agree with. I love my indie games but I think it may be going where mobile gaming went. Not necessarily monetization wise, but over saturation and sheer quantity of them. It's becoming harder and harder both for the gamers and the developers, to spend their money wisely and make a living respectively. There is only so much money gamers can spend after all... I certainly hope we never get there, and the indie game scene stays healthy and clean :D

While I know that this video was satire there are in fact 3d Indie games: El paso elsewhere, post void, Cruelty Squad, Return of the Obra Din, Neon White, Stray, Outer Wilds and the list goes on and on. There even are indie games with good graphics if you count indepentent Triple A/ Triple I Studios like Ninja Theory (before their Acquisition by Microsoft), Remedy, Obsidian Entertainment and many others.

DID you know Dead Cells actually is 3d? crazy as it may sound, all the character models are 3d models that they put filters and shaders over to make it look like its pixel art. they went through the work to make it 3d, and then chose to "downgrade" it to 2d pixel art. absolutely brilliant

Well, i know its a joke but some things are right, many indie game devs just copy stuff straight away without innovating, worst there are those who copy indie games that are also copies, just like in AAA and AA, a few games are greally great, then there is alot of knockoffs, then there is the bad ones. There is a big difference between copying and making something that is part of a genre.

as a pixel artist can confirm I just draw stuff in mspaint and then shrink it until you can barely make out the lines also I straight up saw a guy calling 90s fps games (and the modern takes on it) trash because the game mechanics aren't realistic

Pretty good video, but there's one slight error here. You said that Hollow Knight is a Dark Souls rip off, but as a Biology fan I can actually tell you it's the other way around, because Hollow Knight focuses on Insects, which actually started living on land earlier than Vertebrates, such as the humans you play as in Dark Souls. I cannot believe such an intelligent individual such as yourself would make such an amateur mistake!
I dont think all of the indie games that people say are great aren’t really that great but I think the reason that they are way better than AAA games is because they are able to capture what games captured so long ago, trying new things creating new concepts without playing it safe and creating a neche making a deep connection because they are actually really cool and aren’t playing it safe and doing it how everyone has gotten use to which I think is why everyone calls this recent year the best year for games but so many people have burned out this year that wouldn’t have burned out a while ago because most AAA Games feel the same not I’m concepts of gameplay but everyone wants the best graphics the best UI the most hours played but they don’t focus on story as well (not all but some to most) like Spider-Man 2 was a amazing but so so short and some of the arches felt flat but they had a 200mil buget, I also think that this is why remakes are doing so well is because they are taking the old games that captured that magic but the studios that aren’t fully AAA or don’t hold onto the same IP over and over again are making the great games like Elden ring, blood borne, demons souls or mister hunter, resident evil ect but in my mind games are games and I kinda hope indie games become the new AAA meta and puts the awful inexcusable AAA ( most) games that we have now in there place so they try something new also sorry if this is a rant it’s 4 in the morning I have school at 7 I’m high af and I ate 7 cookies

Speaking of which, if there any gamers out there that are becoming a indie game developer or be part of a indie/AA game studios, don't make a MMO rpg, or a Stardew Valley-like/cozy farming Simulator, or a rouge-like (especially Vampire Survivors ones or bullet hell/heaven ones), or mascot horror, or open world, or metroid-vania as your first game project that you made. Try remaking games or make a knock-off version of a game like pac man, snake, angry birds, tetris, cut the rope, or better, make a fan game of Fnaf, Sonic, or Dark Deception. Start something small, then build your way up to improve your creativity, 2d/3d modeling, coding, and development skills.
