In today's video we're testing seven leading ultra high-performance all-season tires on the market in 2023.
The contenders include the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS, Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3, Falken Azenis FK460 AS, Atlas Force UHP, Vredestein Hypertrack All Season, General G Max AS 05, and BFGoodrich g Force COMP 2 A/S Plus. Each of these tires have their unique strengths, but how do they fare when put head-to-head in a series of rigorous testing?
First, we examine the dry performance of these tires, focusing on dry braking and handling. We aim to understand how they respond to aggressive maneuvers, sudden stops, and how their behavior changes as they reach the limit of their grip. Are they predictable? Do they inspire confidence?
Then we dive into the wet performance, evaluating their wet braking and handling capabilities. Given that these are UHP all-season tires, it's important to consider their performance in wet conditions, where many drivers feel less confident. How do they handle standing water? Do they maintain grip when pushed to the limit?
Comfort and noise are often overlooked aspects of tire performance. We subjectively rate each tire for ride comfort and noise levels. A tire that's comfortable and quiet can dramatically improve your overall driving experience, especially on long journeys.
In addition, we take into account the manufacturer's treadwear warranty and the price of each tire. A long warranty and a reasonable price are indicators of the tire's durability and value for money.

There are almost no tires in the 245/45/16 size for the 9J rims at the back. There is reedition of Yokohama 008P which has very mixed reviews, Michelin MXX3, some Pirellis, Toyos, old Conti SportContact N2... help please!

Winter: Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 Sporty electric car: Comes with Goodyear F1, bought Goodyear Ultra grip performance for winter Wife's car: Continentals all seasons based on your review. I mainly worry about snow, sleet, heavy rain. Summer performance is easily adequate enough.

    • Same here, I religiously follow this channel and have tried to buy "all weather" tires. Last purchases were Pirelli WeatherActive (fantastic tires), Nokian AT (also terrific, but totally different), Falken WildPeak AT Trail (some of the best do anything tires ever), General G-Max (really good). My use case is two fold - a mostly summer tire that can deal with occasional snow trips or an off-road tire that can handle sharp rocky desert terrain. AFAIK, the only one that does everything is the Falken. I just bought an SUV that came with the Atlas Force UHP - was going to change them but after this test, I'm going to leave them alone.....

    • After my experience, I would find out what tyres your model was homologated on and stick with those. My view is that it's all very well going by reviews but that's not a representation of how the results of a tyre test will translate to your own car. Car and tyre manufacturers work together on new models but apart from fitting OEMs its can be a matter of luck as to whether or not the tyres will perform as well as expected. Just my view. This probably doesn't apply in all cases but definitely in cars that are anything but run of the mill. This is the conclusion I've drawn after my experience. I've got a second generation M class that I've had for a number of years. The previous set of tyres I had fitted were conti sport contact 2s which I was perfectly happy with. I subsequently found out that these were the tyres this car was homologated with. I had them replaced with sport contact 6s and everything about them was absolutely appalling not because they were bad tyres, just not suitable for this car. They skipped terribly when pulling out of my drive or at any time a fuller but not even a full lock was required. They tram lined badly in anything but perfect surfaces (an experience I've had before when having different wear states in front and rears due to the car being a permanent 4wd which led me to the conclusion all 4 should be replaced at the same time. At the time I thought I could eak out a thousand or so miles from the rears as they had a bit more life in them. Not a great idea I learnt). However, the worst part was the excessive wear. I'd only done around 4k miles and they were wearing badly, prematurely and the fronts were splitting. I wrote to continental who were absolutely fantastic in their response. That may have been partly due to the fact that I could provide them with all of the information they asked for, (Receipts for previous tyres, proof of mileages, photos etc). They gave me the option of sending someone to look at the car, which they didn't see much point in doing or send a new set of sport contact 2s to a fitter of my choice free of charge which I naturally accepted. The difference was immediately noticeable. The thing with cars like this that are permanent 4wd is that there are a lot of forces working against each other particularly when steering hence the more compliant nature of the sport contact 2s. I had mentioned my experience on this channel a couple of times but after having some lengthy conversations with the guy from continental I'll be choosing tyres more carefully in future. This is just my experience and thought it might be of some help. All of this was recently as I had the new tyres fitted in May.

  • Wow! Excellent comparison, which is very useful! I agree that wet performance is extremely important, however we purchase all season tires so we can still drive in light to medium snow, we do not expect deep snow performance because most of us do not live in deep snow territory, and in one of those rare winter storms that drops a lot of snow, we simply wait for the plows to clear the major streets so we actually can still get out sand back, we might only experience a small amount of snow closer to home where residential streets are now plowed as often as major streets so we still drive on light to medium snow for a short distance, so we do look forward to a snow test in light to medium snow. Thank you!

In several inches of new snow you may want something with more bite, but in that sloppy slush the next days after the storm they are very dependable.

As a recent convert to campervan ownership I’ve searched your channel and website but can’t find any information or comparisons on commercially rated tyres I.e. something suitable for a transporter like the Michelin Agilis crossclimate Do you have any intentions of ever doing that sort of comparison? I’m sure lots of fleet managers would be interested

  • Before watching, I'm really pulling for Continental. Aside from the fact that it has the coolest tread pattern of any tire made, it's also served me VERY well on my Miata. I was the only sports car driving in the snow, and I showed my buddy's Mustang tail lights in the summer. I'm well pleased. Also, regarding NVH, when I drove for a limo company, we put DWS06 tires on our Chrysler 300 stretch, and that it got MASSIVELY quieter and smootger than whatever they had on before.

    • @SayAhh I can't speak directly on the AS4. But, I just replaced my DWS06+ (rival to the AS4) with ExtremeContact Sport 02s, and Holy God. I thought the grip was great before, but the true summer tire is a monster. Much more crisp and solid response, too. I absolutely understand why you'd choose a UHP all-season. But if you can bump up to a true summer tire, I recommend it.

  • I put the BFGs on my Golf Alltrack several months ago and I'm happy (but not ecstatic) with them; there are very few choices in appropriate tire sizes for my car in the US! I like the sporty feel, the ride is firm but well controlled, wet performance isn't amazing but it's good enough; I do experience that scrubby feel with them, they're not the grippiest tires but they do feel really nice at a ~7/10ths sorta trot. Not very quiet but not problematically loud. I'm hoping their tread life is good, I've just put a few thousand miles on them so far. I like having the M+S rating on the sidewall in case I can skip chain controls but I haven't been to the snow for a few years so I don't need the tire's performance focused on snow and ice.

    • That is the problem (the SEVERE lack of usable tire SIZES offered, especially amongst the top tier 'major' brands; looking at YOU Conti and Michelin!!) here in the states, which the Brits and Euros NEVER have to deal with, at all! Unless you are piloting a huge pickup truck, SUV road tank, or a $100K+ supercar, these companies just refuse to bring over the multiple sizes very readily available overseas (most especially the sub 18" diameter varieties) in ANY of their models. :( :(

How would you say that the AZENIS FK460 A/S compare to the Michelins regarding traction? I am looking for something that hooks up in a straight line best, as all of these turn well enough for street use. Thanks a ton! I find your reviews very helpful!

  • I'm late to the party, but I always enjoy watching these videos. As an owner of both the continental DWS06+ and The ExtremeContact sport 02 (continental sucks at naming), I would definitely agree with what he has said about the DWS06+ in this video. As the data shows it's a phenomenal tire for the segment. It is definitely pricey, however, I can only say it's worth the money if you don't plan on adding any additional power to any car you put this on. I am now pushing 400+WHP on a open diff fwd honda and I needed a summer tire that would cope with the extra power. I have used this tire in the snow and it leaves a lot to be desired in the winter. It will get you to A and B as long as you can control the amount of throttle you give it. I wouldn't be surprised if continental passes Michelin in all categories here soon as it makes for fantastic competition and better products for everyone to enjoy. Hopefully i didn't piss off too many people here as I am only sharing my experience, thank you.

  • Continental Extreme Contact DWS06s have been on my 1987 535is for several years. I run then in warm weather only. They remain true and are wearing quite evenly. I expect they will last and run true down to the wear bars. I just put them away for 2023. I rotate them at the start of each warm season. The tires look good and feel good, giving great confidence in cornering and stopping .They were at a good price point for how high a rating they received at the time of purchase. I have yet to break these tires loose in hard cornering on dry pavement. I feel very confident pushing until the first chirp or squeal comes on. That is some scary fast cornering, because the tires are loath to protest much, good fun.

  • I live in the north of Sweden and have for a long time wondered about having three sets of tyres. Usually one have a studded winter and a summer tyre. But theres is a period of maybe 2-3 month in the fall and 2 in the spring where the main road is ice free tarmac but often wet or slush due to heavy use of salt. It get progressively worse/better as the months move one. But it still is like too cold for summer tyres and not cold/icy enough for studded. But going to one of these all season instead of a summer tyre. How much of the summer tyre ”abilities” do one give up to have that added margin of safety in that transition period in fall/spring?

I haven't been able to find any reviews or objective testing on it, but I have a set and they're at least as good if not better than my last set of General Gmax AS 05s. Living in So California I don't see a lot of rain or snow, but went with all season performance tires for the vette because I anticipate cold mornings camping in the Sierra mountains . Went with good year because if I need tires away from home, they are easy to get in America, unlike , at times Michelins. Most guys in my area run michelins, because it is an easy choice, and not everybody makes the somewhat unusual sizes corvettes need. Would have gone for the continental, but read conflicting measurements about the outside diameter being slightly smaller than Goodyear, which I doubted, but didn't want to chance it. I knew the Goodyear brand provided more than I needed, except in an emergency, and was originally OEM, so little chance of being slightly undersized , even though I am not running the OEM runflats. Also, I live around where a Goodyear blimp is based, and the sight of that airship power sliding across the clear blue sky down by the beach on a windy spring day, just made me want to buy tires.
