Procter & Gamble - Bigger Than You Know
Procter & Gamble is much larger than many people realize. Some people aren't aware that they even exist at all and that's because they own multiple brands that don't feature the company's name. This video profiles those brands while attempting to demonstrate how large they actually are.

Between P&G and Unilever you have basically the entire supermarket minus the produce aisle😂
P&g is bigger is 343.73 while unilever is 150.09
BillionS
That's it's best to eat around the outside of the supermarket (produce/dairy/meat), that's the best way to avoid companies like P&G, Unilever, etc.
@@kuebby 😂 no need to avoid them
Kimberly and Clark would like a word...
I work at Target in Logistics (meaning I unload the trucks and stock shelves). I see the labels all day and it is just crazy how many of our products are produced by the same few companies.
i worked for p &g vn for over 6 years in Vietnam and i am very disappointed with việt nam sales because they lose distribution..i go to 10 stores. and only 1 store has safeguard. this is very very bad sales.
You should buy those stocks
Bhhhggxxfcfdghzxggfcc,gcxvvJ🎂
I own lots of Target and Walmart stock, and work at Walmart and i see that alllll day long
That's how it works man. Contracts.
And let’s lot forget the television production arm of P&G, which made daytime soap operas like As The World Turns, Guiding Light and Another World. Notice that the shows were generally created as advertising vehicles for their products. Every commercial break would feature ads for a variety of products by P&G. This is actually how these shows got the name “soap operas”.
cpk1994 soap operas play to this day sir
Game shows too iirc.
And now they're all off the air. I believe Another World was cancelled on NBC by 1999 after airing on there for about 35 years. After that, they put Passions in their 2:00 time slot. Passions was actually the last new soap to ever be created.
@@jessicasmith5728 Damn was it really? Didn't realize. So pretty much all the ones left over are dinosaur ones from a generation ago.
@@matthewverhage1282 Yep. The only soap that's on the air that was created after 1975 is Bold and The Beautiful. Even Passions went off the air after it was cancelled on NBC in 2007 and moved to DirecTV. They aired their last episode (the series finale) on August 7, 2008.
Procter and Gamble were also the biggest producers of TV soap operas. The nickname “soap opera” is from the fact that P&G’s biggest products were soap related. The soaps they produced over the years include Guiding Light, Search For Tomorrow, The Edge Of Night, As The World Turns, Another World, Somerset and Texas, among many others. P&G Productions was officially dissolved when their last remaining soap opera, As The World Turns, went off the air in September 2010.

Procter and gamble also owns the KZhead channel Timothy mc “cLean”
Yo pretty much 😂
"The Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns". Two daytime television that soap operas owned and produced by Procter & Gamble.
Search for Tomorrow, Another World, and The Edge of Night were other long running soap operas produced by P&G.
@@angelmarie2281 when my mom was a kid in the late 1930s, she started listening to The Guiding Light when it was a radio program. She continued to follow the program when it became a TV show in the 1950s, and continue to watch it until it ended in the 2000s.
@@AtomicAgePictures I started watching it circa 1997. Michelle was apart of the teen set but Annie was the reason I watched and Dinah was the reason I stayed. The show has so much rich history on most media platforms. I wish it could be rebooted on Hulu or Netflix or even on here.
AtomicAgePictures I remember Procter & Gamble for those daytime soaps to when I was really really little I remember the logo at the end kind if used to scare me lol
Yeah please do a proctor and gamble production company. Please?

Isn't it interesting that you can practically live off of Proctor and Gamble but they're still number 22 on the list
They bring a lot of value to the world. I agree
I mean it’s trully insane especially sense it’s been around over a decade
I almost live off on entirely P&G Products
They aren’t in the tech or oil industry which is where the real money is
Fantastic video as always! The "Bigger Than You Know" playlist is going to make for a fun binge-watch one day, and make the product world look very small!
P&G used to have "tiers" of products - one more expensive level (tier 1) and one budget level (tier 2): Level 1 detergents were Tide and Cheer; Level 2 was Gain, Oxydol and Dash. Level 1 bathroom tiissue was Charnin and Level 2 was White Cloud. They also marketed products to address specific uses: For bar soap, Ivory was the natural option, Camay was a beauty soap, Zest and Safeguard were deoderant soap, and Lava ("with pumice") was a tough hand soap marketed kids and blue collar workers. The company also infamously produced Rely tampons, which were pulled from the market after women died from toxic shock syndrome caused by the product. As someone who watched a number of P&G soaps, most of their commercials in the 60s-80's were very tightly written "stories" that introduced a problem that was solved by a P&G product within 30 seconds. These commercials also produced memorable product mascots like Mrs. Olsen (Folger's), Mr. Whipple (Charmin) and Josephine the Plumber (Comet cleanser).
Hi, Company Man. You forgot to mention that Procter & Gamble used to have their own television division which they produced the longtime CBS soap opera, Guiding Light.
Oh man, I remember Guiding Light. My mom used to tape episodes of that on VHS when I was a toddler. It was one of her favorites back in the day. The fact that they’re called soap operas is literally because of P&G is amazing to find out about.
Soap company sponsoring/producing a soap opera?
@@jonasthemovie Yes. I am not kidding. Procter & Gamble used to produced the once long time soap opera Guiding Light. Under Procter & Gamble Productions that is. You can tell them by their classic logo from the 1980's at the end of the show.
Literally everything I buy at the grocery store are P&G products.
@Jules G boycotted you mean?
That was dumb. Like for Nestle it makes sense because they literally think water isn't a human right. While gillete just did some commercial thing.

Yes. Especially laundry products.

Proctor & Gamble also has an entertainment production company. Originally known as Proctor & Gamble Productions (now Proctor & Gamble Entertainment) they produced (and sponsored) many daytime dramas (soap operas) first on radio, starting in the 1930's and later on television. Many classic soap operas were produced by Proctor & Gamble Productions including: The Guiding Light (1937-56 on radio; 1952-2009 on television) As the World Turns (1956-2010) The Brighter Day (1948-56 on radio; 1954-62 on television) The Edge of Night (1956-84) Search for Tomorrow (1951-86) Another World (1964-99) Somerset (1970-76) Texas (1980-82).
Which is exactly where the term "soap operas" came from. Because, the shows were either sponsored by, or featured commercials advertising cleaning products. They definitely knew their audience, since it was mostly housewives.
That’s so trippy
Here's the most memorable ident of the Procter And Gamble Production company from 1986 to 2007: kzhead.info/sun/p76Oh6ppppivlI0/bejne.html
Proctor & Gamble even has won a few Emmy awards!
Is PROCTER & Gamble NOT “PROCTOR” as in Proctor Silex 😔
I have Crest toothpase and mouthwash, I only knew they were made by P&G because I read the back of my mouthwash bottle while I was on the toilet without my phone.
P&G is a big employer in ohio. I’ve known of them since I was a kid.
i am in ohio and where i stay there is a P&G play down the road
I work at the P&G in Lima, Ohio.
I would compare P&G to General Motors because GM has hundreds of sub companies but don’t sell a car on their own brand.
I was actually really excited when I saw you FINALLY uploaded a P&G episode!! When I was a teenager (like 10 years ago), I learned on my own how absolutely huge P&G is. I was fascinated by how they like to feature they're brands within their other brands (like a crossover product haha). So I'm gonna do my best to write as many brands as I can: Covergirl, Olay, Head & Shoulders, Old Spice, Febreze, Charmin, Tide, Gain, Downy, Herbal Essence, Swiffer, Glad, Crest, Bounce, Bounty, Gillette/Venus, Puffs, and Vicks And I promise I didn't cheat! Like I said, I was obsessed with finding out how many brands P&G actually contains and discovering their crossovers (i.e. Covergirl foundation with Olay moisturizer, Head & Shoulders with the scent of Old Spice, etc)
Oh yeah and Dawn!!! I remembered as soon as I hit send haha
Why are you fascinated by them?
I am fascinated that you, Annie, correctly used the possessive "their" in the same sentence where you wrote another possessive "their" as "they're", somthing that most people get incorrect even when "they are" is appropriate. Sorry for this digression.

As a former employee and shareholder for more than 20 years, I feel it’s my duty to blow the whistle on Procter&Gamble. Use caution when applying, working or investing in P&G. You are unlikely to reach full retirement age! If tenure matters look elsewhere, you’ll be starting over at age 50 - 60. It’s very common to force people out early with a severance package and cover it up with a contractual agreement, a gangster ultimatum. Firing is a valued strength at P&G, filthy feminist managers who are good at it are usually promoted. The internal culture is self defeating, competition is internally focused versus competitor focused. It’s an anal conundrum, a nonstop menstrual cycle! The company is the leading innovator in woke madness, far worse than Bud Light but somehow they always manage to dodge the boycott! They’re too many toxic feminist managers at P&G who use their network to fire men who raise the bar, men they cannot complete with. The toxic feminist’s created “Toxic Masculinity” as a tool and weaponized it against men they are not able to complete with or smart enough to manage. Intelligent men who get frustrated under incompetent, women receive the label, toxic masculinity. Liberals love Lies, the only way they win is with childish name calling, slander and frame jobs. This is the internal culture that started about two decades ago, long before going public with their Toxic Gillette and Like a Girl feminist’s attack ads. They’ve been unethically firing the smartest, most valuable and successful men at P&G for more than two decades. The impact of these cruel attacks is total devastation of the stock! A stock that used to split every 5 to 7 years has flatlined with no splits in over 20 years! Countess brands and acquisitions have failed because of feminist managers in control! Deceptive, Unethical, Unwholesome and Anal! That’s the real P&G! Such a pity and I see no light at the end of the tunnel!
Can you do UHAUL? When I think of moving from place to place UHAUL comes to everyone’s mind am I right?
I hear on YT that the price to rent UHaul to move into California is much cheaper than going from California to other states, such as Texas. The difference is to indicate a mass exodus out of California and fewer moving into the state (supply and demand).
I know the founder of U-Haul kids screwed him pretty bad
You're right, Uhaul is one of those brands that have become synonymous with what they sell, much like Kleenex. When I moved a few months ago I didn't say "I need to get a moving truck", I said "I need to get a uhaul".

My father was the production manager at the Plant in Jackson, TN. They recently sold the plant to Kellogg’s, but they offered to keep every one of their employees at the plant. My father was, in my eyes, very accomplished and he dropped out of college. I wish that one day I can fit in his shoes, and I’m 26
This was very informative. After watching the video in full, I realized that almost every single product that you mentioned was a household product in my family's home. I transitioned into a plant based and chemical free lifestyle in the 80's. Thanks for the info.
Man, 3M and P&G are just CRAZY diversified! Now that I see some of the brands, it does seem like the ads for those brands have a similar aura to them.
I've definitely heard of the name, but heck if I can remember which brands are owned by them...

Really? I mean it's just crazy to not see them. They're like the Coca Cola of household products.
I first heard about P&G from Pringles...my grandmother said "Isn't that the people that make soap?"...
My grandfather was a plant manager for P&G and worked at the plant in Mahoopany PA, he also started running the first line of Luvs diapers, which according to him were supposed to be the premium diaper at the time.

I used to work for Unilever which is P&G's largest competitor. They have a lot in common. You would probably be hard pressed to name their products but you definitely have them in your home. But they are in fact bigger than you know.
I always think of Olay, Ivory, and Tide. They are also acquiring the Japanese skincare brand Tatcha.
Yes, it is the archrival of Unilever. P&G manufactures consumer products like Tide, Mr. Clean, and Ariel laundry detergents, Downy fabric conditioner, Febreze fabric and air freshener (that was marketed in Southeast Asia as Ambi Pur), Safeguard line of germicidal soaps, Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo, Pantene hair care products (remember their latest ad campaign that has the tagline "Strong is Beautiful"), Old Spice men's personal care products, Secret women's deodorant (remember the tagline: "exposed? keep it Secret"), Vicks VapoRub cold rub and Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup.
Love the video! I didn’t comment on brands I knew were P&G because the store I work at carries nearly all these and at one point I was training to be Accounts Payable. So I saw the invoices I know you couldn’t go in depth about why they chose to spin-off some brands but think it’d make a great part 2. Great work keep it up
Also, in part 2 of the Procter & Gamble video, you should mention the time that they had their television production company called Procter & Gamble Productions. They were best known for their popular soap operas in both television and radio from the likes of Guiding Light and As the World Turns which they both aired on CBS. Heck, they even sponsored their own brands during their soap operas. Too bad that Procter & Gamble shut down their television arm in 2010.

I didn't know all the brands, but I wasn't surprised at all. Anyone who has studied business knows they're enormous. I really enjoy this channel! You could develop a college course around it. So informative and interesting. I feel like I should be getting CPE credits! 😉
Soooo P & G is one of those companies that are so rich they buy everything and sell companies off before they get into antitrust trouble.
Not exactly, they are a multinational company that tries to get as much of a market cap as they can they have tons and tons of lawyers to keep a repeat of clorox from happening again. They wouldn't really buy a company and then turn around and sell it, that makes zero sense. They would try to avoid getting into that mess again. They are a distribution company, and they buy up a company to see if it will make them money long term, if not, they sell it.
Past few decades P&G sells off brands due to pressure on CEOs from shareholders. Some investor activist stirred up shit this past Spring with corporate who sees no reason for their HQ to be in Cincinnati.
repeat of Clorox? im new
They had to sell off clorox after being threatened by anti trust laws, it was towards the first part of the video
You buy what you can innovate and sell what you can no longer innovate
Still a huge company, and you have indeed impressed us with how huge they really are, but it seems they only currently own maybe a quarter of the brands you mentioned, having sold the vast majority. It's seems they're almost more of an investor than a manufacturer (although they also invest in manufacturing facilities, many of which I'm sure they sell when selling the related brand) acquiring smaller companies for 5-10 years then selling at a gain. An incredibly valuable portfolio.
And there was P&G Productions. This goes back to radio in the 1930's when they began to produce (and advertise) daytime dramas, hence the term soap opera. Some shows such as The Guiding Light, went from radio to television. They had over a dozen of these shows.
Also, If P&G can get back into the food business by rebuying Pringles, Folgers, Crisco, SunnyD, & Jif, I think they'll be able to improve them even though they're a laundry & soap company
It’s funny how each brand leaving the P&G umbrella directly coincides with my memories of their commercial presence dropping off. Just goes to show what a powerful marketing machine the corporation is
Crazy stuff... I was applying for an internship with them - the process included researching the company - and even I didn't know ALL of those brands.

P&G’s head quarters is in my city!
I was well aware of most of these brands, back when I grew up the P&G logo was more prominent than it is today.
We actually learn about Procter and gamble in school It was only a 5 to 10 minute conversation though but we still did learn about it
Legend had it he’s still naming off companies to this day
All of PG's early products involved the use of animal fats. This is no coincidence. Cincinnati had a tremendous excess of animal byproducts due to the booming meatpacking industry in the city at the time. Several other famous food and hygiene brands from hot dogs to shampoos rose from the same part of the city's west end near the giant stockyards and rail-yards. Animal byproducts were and still are used in a multitude of products. The stockyards are gone but the brands remain. This is at least part of the reason why more famous household brands were born in Cincinnati than anywhere else in the world.
Lots to brag about here in the Queen City :)
After taking an intro to marketing class in college, I’ve been fascinated by P&G. I’d love for you to do more financial and business analysis on this company in the future.

In China, the TV advertisements of Crest, Pantene, Gillette, Tide, Olay etc are all followed by the P&G logo with their chinese name 宝洁. No idea why they don’t do the same in their ads elsewhere.
Same in Turkey too
They sometimes do it in Canada too.

It’s probably because they did market research and found that in foreign markets showing the American parent company increased sales while in countries like America it’s better to put on the face of choice. That’s my guess
In Germany they always show The Logo P&G and i remember when i was a child there was a commercial die P&G whole
Speaking as a baby boomer, a lot of these older brands were very popular in the 1960's. What stands out for me is that these are known as trusted brands, brands known for good quality. Even with products where the P&G item is not the absolute leader in the market, they are a strong contended known for quality. That says a lot for P&G.

Well I guess I'm cheating a little since both of my parents have worked for P&G for 30ish years... But here are the brands I know: Ariel Tide Lenor Head&Shoulders Gillette Oral-B Braun Old Spice Pampers Vicks Duracell (although they might've sold that since then I'm not sure) Always Tampax Febreze Bounty SK-II I'm definitely missing a few as I don't live in the US and some of the brands are only present there.
I live about 30 mins from one of their plants that produces Tide among other things, so I knew all of these as they have been in the local news at some point in time.
👏you did good!
Vicks and Duracell are by P&G?
@@OmarAlikaj Duracell was .. sold
What, are you a vegetarian or something?
If I am not mistaken, P&G is headquartered here in Ohio
I worked there for about 6 years and it is Huge!
Yep, learned about P & G back in the 90's. Had accounts for them early on as an accountant. You never realize stuff until later on.
The Old Spice "Sweat Defense" line has to be one of my favorite products ever. The application of the antiperspirant is made so much easier with that creamy consistency. Anything that can manage to keep me to some semblance of freshness after digging trenches (stage-1 plumbing rough-ins) in SE Louisiana summers is greatly appreciated.
I think we'd be remiss if we didn't bring up a huge part of P&G's legacy portfolio, daytime television serial dramas (aka soap operas). They were a giant force in daytime TV, producing and sponsoring such shows like "Guiding Light", "As The World Turns", "Search for Tomorrow", "Another World", and "The Edge of Night", all of which were television staples from the 50s up til at least the 80s. In fact, the term 'soap opera' came from the fact that P&G sponsored so many daytime dramas.
Tide Head & shoulders Nivea? Lysol? Huggies Swiffer Dove? That's a big list! We were struggling between the ones owned by Unilever. Great work!
Nivea, Lysol, Huggies, and Dove are not made by Procter & Gamble.
Hi Company Man, thanks for your video. Could you please talk about Exonmobile? Thx.
Best Channel, really unique
I think the only reason I was familiar with them was because I lived in Cincinnati(where their headquarters is) for like 8 years. Even worked in a factory that packaged their products.
I'm from Hamilton. #WhoDey
Hey! Nice video. You forgot some of the Europe brands like Ariel (European Tide), Lenor, blend-a-med, blend-a-dent, Fairy (European Dreft), Alldays, Venus, Silk'apel, the newly acquired Merck brands... We bought and sold again Wella. We basically made all of the famous odors of the world for brands like Adidas, Hugo Boss etc. We also owned a coffee bean company once. And at the moment during Corona crisis, we make disinfection and masks for employees and charity. It's a great company 😊
I love your videos.
How about Samsonite? I knew they make luggage. I've started noticing them in more places, like water bottles, backpacks, and even folding chairs.
