  • taylor swift once said lana del rey is the most impactful artist of the last decade. you might not like her music or even her voice but she definitely inspired and changed modern mainstream music in her own way.

  • Lana, if you are listening, thank you! This song holds a very special place in my heart. I lost my mom to ovarian cancer. She was a wonderful mother and told my brother and I each and every day that she loved us. Being male, how could I ever truly understand what it means to. be a woman or a mother? Thanks to my mom and how open she was about her feelings about how much she loved being a mother. She shared with me that the most difficult part of dying of ovarian cancer is that the one body part that gave her the most joy in life (uterus/giving birth) would also be what would eventually kill her. The last night I was with her in her hospital room I jumped into bed with her. Me, a 200lbs grown man, allowed my mom to hold me like a baby and we cried. It was the most beautiful experience of my life that few people will ever experience. Every time I listen to this song, I think of my mom and I'm a better man because of her.

    • The best songs of COCC are the 4 first ones (White Dress, the title track, Tulsa Jesus Freak, LMLYLAW). This one might be the warmest and most comforting song Lana has ever released. I love it so much, and I didn’t understand the slander. Fortunately, it had managed to grow on many listeners who warmed up to it, and who discovered beauty within simplicity.

    • I love her voice absolutely. The only issue I have with the song is that the backup singers sound like they're singing a different song and I'm not a huge fan of their sound, though I always love how Lana sings with a band. She elevates everyone around her. Her band is very talented, too, but if I only heard the parts of this song without Lana's beautiful voice, would I like the rest? I am not sure. Still, even my not favorite Lana songs are far and away better than the songs of any other current singer, so it's still quite a win, I'd say.

  • This song makes me feel nostalgia for a love I've yet to have felt for someone. Lana has beautifully crafted the utter simplicity of what it means to be an individual, totally infatuated, by another's soul. Reducing herself to a woman that comes from a small town doesn't limit her importance but heightens the passion she feels for her significant other when wanting to leave her life and begin a new one with them. Their love segregates them both from the rest of the world. Wanting to love them 'like a woman', like an individual who innately carries a boundless love that has no limits expresses the type of love that makes you feel like it's just you and your person against the world. Lana, ur one beautiful lyricist - we don't deserve you.
