Restoring 17th Century Parquet Wood Flooring, Chateau Restoration - Journey to the Château, Ep. 187
In this week's Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart welcome the return of Brad Quarless from "Parfait Parquet" to work on the restoration of the chateau oak wood floors on the first floor. The echelle pattern parquet floor in the chateau dates from the 17th century. Patrick also spends some time planting seeds to pre-grow some starter plants for the chateau garden and potager (kitchen garden).

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ginger was always there by your side or following you around. She led a good long life and got to spend her end days at a chateau in France with her loving owners. What more could a doggy ask for.
Carole, thank you so very much. Indeed Ginger was a forced of nature. Always the leader and she loved her life here in France. We will miss her terribly. So grateful for your comment ❤❤❤
From my view, you never have to apologize for laughing! We all need more laughter and cheer in our lives, not less. One thing I love about your vlog is how you two convey a sense of genuinely enjoying life and each other and the grand adventure that you are on, that you have created. You find a way to see humor or goodness, no matter the situation, like when that downspout got terribly clogged, or when you had trouble with that tractor, or when you had to rent a jack hammer, which Tony used to take out the raised concrete area in kitchen. Thank you for brightening so many days by being your dear selves and doing all you do, with your upbeat, can-do attitude. How beautiful the spring flowers, and the filming of the flowers! Big thanks from Maine, where it is still cold.
Thank you so much Martha for an absolutely amazing comment. I love everything you wrote. We do try see an upside , even if it is a tough situation. And the spring flowers help a lot 🥰. Heartfelt gratitude from the Chateau to you ❤❤❤
Hear, hear! 👏🏻👏🏻
Two of the many reasons I love your channel. Patrick's infectious laugh, and Stuart's radio announcer voice. Thank for another lovely vlog. RIP dear Ginger. ❣❣
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so sorry you lost your baby, Ginger. It never gets easier losing them but the love they give is unquestionable. Know you're both in our thoughts and prayers and thank you for giving her such a loving home.
Those floors are going to look absolutely fabulous after they’ve been “Gilboy’d”. Today’s vlog with the flowers and planting really cheered me up after the very sad broadcast from our beautiful Catherine, Princess of Wales that she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Then I get to the end and see that one of your much loved pets has passed away, I’m so sorry. You are in my thoughts.
They sure will be amazing floors. Now, we watched the announcement of the Princess of Wales are we are so sad. A young family…. And yes, Ginger had cancer and the announcement today was hitting a soft spot. We will bury Ginger tomorrow and pray for Catherine and the Wales family. Love your comment Jane (yes, we teared up watching the announcement). Bless you ❤❤❤
My heart goes out to you for the loss of another fur baby x Ginger lived her best life with both of you xx
You are so kind. It was truly heartbreaking to loose our first Irish girl. But she did have an amazing life and was loved and spoiled (like all of our pooches). Hugs hugs ❤️
My heart goes out to you regarding Ginger’s passing. My animals are my family. I understand how painful their passing is. Never apologize for the laughter! I am going through a very challenging time in life and watching the both of you and hearing your laughter is a huge help to me. Finally, the squeaky floors are special. Having grown up in homes 21:16 built in the 1700’s and 1800’s, I find squeaky floors very comforting!!
Oh I am sooo sorry for the loss of your beautiful Ginger, what a precious girl she seamed to be. Floors look great already and will only get better once you finish them. You can never have too many flowers. See you Wednesday. Hugs and stay well.
Over the 🌈 bridge, Miss Ginger🐕 thankyou for being an awesome companion to Patrick and Stuart. You will be missed, lovely 😘 x
Thank you so very much 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻. She was our first Irish Terier and had an amazing life. Missing her so much. We deeply appreciate your kindness ❤❤

Thank you. It truly never gets easier. 😢. We miss her. The floors are amazing. Ginger actually supervised the guys working 😂. It was too cute ❤❤
Floors look beautiful. You young men are such fun together. I chuckle along too. Brocantes are for finding what you didn’t realise you needed until you saw it but know that life would not be complete without it.❤❤👏👏👏
Thank you so much. ❤❤. I love your analysis of brocantes. Absolutely perfectly said. ❤❤❤
What a great idea to use paper tubes!!!!! Brilliant 🪴
The floors are beautiful, he did a great job! I have no luck growing sweet peas so I look forward to seeing yours flower in your gardens. Sorry for your loss, it's always hard to say goodbye to our babies XO
Thank you. The floors will be even more gorgeous when finished. Like you, I never had any luck growing sweet peas until we moved to France. Germany, USA….. nope. But here…. Hurrah. Will share the images. Thank you for your kind words. She was amazing and it never gets easier, does it? 😪😪😪

@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I lost my terrier mix baby almost a month ago. I am heartbroken as well. It can be no other way with the loss of those we love leave us. My heart goes out to both.
Great decision to hire Brad for the floors!!!! Very Impressive!!!!!
One of the joys of this channel is the laughter. Spring is looking very colorful and all the work you do is so rewarding. The floors are coming along and will be beautiful once the linseed oil is applied.
Thank you so much Caryn. I am so glad you like the laughter. 😊😂😊. We love doing the work and there is so much progress. Sending you love from Colombe
So sorry for your loss, guys! 😢 I hope memories of good times together will help you in your grief.
Thank you Patrick and Stuart for your videos. We are enjoying them very much
I am sorry for the loss of Ginger. Our dogs leave such a big hole in our hearts when they go. ❤
Thank you so much Janet. You are right, they absolutely leave a huge hole. My only consolation is the love and wonderful years they give us. Much Love 💕 ❤️💕 from Colombe
I’m so sorry about your lovely dog- but what a life you gave him ❤❤❤
Thank you so much. Indeed, it was one huge life. 🥰
Good morning Patrick & Stuart, laughter is a sign of a happy soul. Loved this video, the flowers - they just always melt my heart - we are now into Autumn, so, sweet peas and some other winter flowers can be planted, alas, I must move. So sorry for the loss of Ginger, she always came in to see what's happening, I will miss her. Brad did a wonderful work with the flooring and the replacement board worked out wonderful, I wish him all the best for his future contracts, may it go very well with him and his company. He is a treasure. Exciting news regarding the cooking kitchen coming up, that will be a lot of fun and challenging. Glad you can enjoy good weather, it is so lovely to be outside potting about and having tea. Do enjoy a great weekend, kind regards, and many blessings. Are you cooking up a storm for Easter or going off to visit friends? We are at home, it is Easter school holidays and the coastal areas are always packed.
The floors look great! I'm am always happy planting seeds in the sun. I'm sorry to see Ginger has passed.
The floors are stunning now unfinished. They will be beautiful. Good work on the seedling planting, Patrick!
Thank you very much. Love the floors and cannot wait to start planting in the potager. Hugs.
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 🤗
Oh my Ginger too. My condolences to the both of you...Colin and Ginger are always with you. It feels to me like Colin and Ginger were meant to be close by at Chateau de Colombe.
What a beautiful dog, she will be missed RIP sweet one 💐💐💐
Oh wow! The floor guy did a beautiful job sanding and repairing the floors. Nice sowing seeds for the garden. Your tulips and daffodils in bloom are gorgeous
The floors and the flowers….. we are in a great spot. Hugs
I agree with Martha, I have watched since the beginning and the laughter, the learning, and your relationship has helpef me through years of watching my husband pass away and mourning of my loss. So please do continue 😊.
Dear Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing. We feel humbled that we could give you a little reprieve through your mourning. The pain and sadness are different for each person. Sending you love from Colombe ❤😊❤
What an uplifting video about the success with your floors.. then I got to the end and felt heartbroken for you both, losing your beautiful Ginger! A dog’s life is always too short, but I’d prefer that limited time than never having experienced their live and joy at all. Life is better having had them in our lives, and can only imagine the love and memories she has given you. 🫶🐾
❤Ginger❤ 😢 my heart goes out to you both. And Patrick you don't need to apologize for laughing. I really enjoying hearing it. Makes my heart lift 😊
Hi Patrick & Stuart. You can Never have too many copper pots, Patrick😅. The floors look wonderful and will make a Huge difference. Brochantes are for fun more than anything else. It’s the surprise of finding something you never even knew you had to have. Enjoy these fantastic Spring days guys.😘😘😘
Thank you so much Kathy. You are right….. copper pots are a collectors item 😂😂😂. I use them and love it. And spot on…. Brocantes are for items we didn’t even knew we wanted. What a fantastic attitude. Love from the Chateau ❤❤❤
Floors are absolutely gorgeous
The floors came out so nice! Im so sorry for the loss ofone of your sweet dogs.
I offer condolences for the loss of sweet Ginger. Many comforting hugs to you both.
Just love the makeover of the floors. Beautiful!! As for the flowers, yes, I do think flowers in every room just brightens the rooms right up!! Just love the flowers that were shown! Beautiful!! Believe me I could hit a few people to. 😂!!! You two are so delightful!! I enjoy your videos!! Lots of love from Tennessee!!
Very sad about Ginger, condolences with your loss.
The floors have been restored beautifully. Adore all your flowers. Hugs and best wishes.
Thank you for the beautiful sunshine and flowers. I had a rough day working in a basement without natural light. Then, I watched your channel, and you shared your sunshine with me! You turned my day around. Thank you!
That is such a wonderful comment Lori. Thank you for your kindness and for sharing. Sending you love and sunshine from Colombe 🥰💐🥰
Oh, I'm so sorry about Ginger. Gentle comforting scritches to the rest of the pups and hugs to both of you. The flowers and floors are beautiful.

@@kathyeyesopen4078 One of their dogs passed away.
Thank you so much. She was the big leading lady and an amazing Irish Terrier. One of a kind and we miss her terribly. ❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Of course you do. How are the other dogs doing?
Spring has sprung... such beautiful flowers and blooms.
Brad does such beautiful work✨. 💔I'm sorry for your loss. ❤ Ginger 🐾🕯️
Brad does wonders on parkay floors. What a difference. Love all the flowers. I used to get good results with sweet peas gigantic, but in the past few years, mine didn't grow. I planted some 6 weeks ago, and I think I see some germinating. I am going to start more indoors. It gets too hot here in the summer and dries everything up even with watering. Spring is my favorite season. Enjoy your weekend. See you in the next one. Love and hugs.❤
So very sorry for the loss of Ginger 😔❤ you are both one of my favorite chateau vloggers both for your wonderful enthusiasm for each other and your dear pups ❤️
Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much. That is so kind of you to say. We miss her. ♥️🤗♥️
The floors look fantastic!!! Can't wait to see them with the Gillboys finish on them. And my sincerest condolences for the loss of Ginger. 🌈💔No matter how long we have them, it's never long enough.
Rest in peace Ginger. Love to all ❤
So sorry to read about Ginger…she was loved.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Ginger was always there to help and over see your projects. I know you will miss her terribly.
Thank you, Jane. 💕💕
So so sorry to hear you had lost beautiful Ginger. They leave such a hole in our lives. Each one who shares this time with us is so precious. My condolences to you both. ❤
Thank you!. 💕💕
Dear Elizabeth, thank you very much. They take a part of our hearts with them, don’t they? Luckily, they give us many years of unconditional love. Very kind of you. Love from Colombe ❤️♥️❤️
Oh my, so very sad to hear of Ginger’s passing. That’s such a gut wrenching loss. My thoughts are with you … from PA, USA.
So sorry about Ginger! 😢 Our fur babies are like children to us, and it is heartbreaking to lose them. She had a wonderful life with you, I am sure. I send a big hug to you both. ❤ The floors look amazing. I also use toilet and paper towel rolls to plant seeds in.
Thank you very much 🤗. It was hard. The fur babies are family and it is always really hard. Hugging you right back. Paper towel rolls are amazing! 😉. Love from Colombe
I laughed so hard when you guys were saying how bad must have been the selection of repair oak planks, that they chose that worm-eaten one and slapped it down?! Totally cracked me up! 😂 Clearly that workman was not overly bothered by small details! The floors are just beautiful and set off the gorgeous wallpaper even more! Bravo!
We are so sorry for the loss of your dear Ginger, Patrick & Stuart. We lost our dog almost a year ago, and we still miss him terribly. They're our family, after all, aren't they?? Love to you both from Virginia, & by the way we enjoy every single video, although we don't always comment!! Take care 💕
Thank you! 💕
Thank you for your kindness. It is truly hard to loose them and indeed, they are family. Unconditional love and affection. So sorry for your loss as well. I read once that we pay the price of heartbreak because we get soooo much love for many years from our pooches. I don’t think it is fair but I believe it is true. Sending love and hugs from Colombe ♥️
Brad is a master,looks marvelous.🦋🇺🇸
The Chateau floors are soooo beautiful now, what a great job was done sanding them back to their natural beauty. Once your finishing oiling is applied it will enhance them even more. I too love pumpkin, sweet peas are so wonderful, love your Brocantes finds and pleeeeze Patrick never stop or apologise for smiling or laughing! 😂🥰
Aw condolences on the loss of Ginger *HUGS* The floors look so nice, a job well done. I love you Giggle Patrick, that's what make you warm and friendly.

She was the queen of homes, a huge pack of dogs and our boss too. Thank you for your kindness. Her loss is terrible. ❤❤
Sorry for the loss of your furbaby. It is always hard to say goodbye to them.
Thank you Marie. So kind of you. It is heartbreaking. ♥️💖♥️
I am so sorry for your loss. Ginger was such a good girl. It always hurts so much, especially when you have a whole pack and all of a sudden the pack gets smaller and smaller (it happened to us, we lost 5 of our 7 dogs within the last 1.5 years due to old age). Just know that you gave Ginger the best of life and she enjoyed it very much. *hugs*
Thank you so much. It is always hard. She was amazing and the most stubborn dog one can ever have 😉🤣🥰. I cannot imagine your pain for your losses. 2 losses in 5 months was as much as my heart can take. We had 2 breeder friends who warned us to spread out the ages of our dogs to not loose too many at once. Good advice but Collin wasn’t even 7…. So we pay the price for loosing them by getting so much love from them. Huge hugs from us at the Chateau
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 We always have rescues and foster dogs, esp the old ones, the sick and weird ones, so theoretically we know that their time is limited. So far, even though it was very hard, we had some miracles. Like some older abused dogs which were on death' door recovered with us and we had the pleasure to see them reaching old age depending on their size as well as health status (our Podengo Portuges Careto was a tripawed, half dead and between 6 to 9 years old when he came to us and he lived with us for ten more years, Gina a little poodle girl we took in after her owner died, was 12 when we got her and died a few days shy of her 20th birthday). I was devastated when I heard about Collin, esp as he was so young. Our youngest is 7 now, and Lina has always been and still is the 'Wirbelwind'. But it is so damn quiet around here and we are thinking of giving another rescue a nice comfy home for however long soon. We will see, room in our house and hearts is more than enough.
I love the buzzy vacuum doofer...
I am so sorry to hear of Ginger’s passing, but I’m sure your boy will have been waiting on the rainbow bridge to welcome her home 🥹Thoughts, prayers and much love to you both 🙏xxx
Thank you so much Jane. Stuart had a conversation with Collin to make sure he picked her up. We miss her. She gave us so much love and we gave her a loving home where she was spoiled and kissed every day. Hugs from the Chateau ♥️❤️♥️

Fabulous job, the floor looks amazing as does the repair. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The boards look stunning! Thank you for the video. There is no such thing as enough copper pans!!!
I’m so thrilled you love flowers and making your property a beautiful display of colors and varieties. I’m so sorry for the loss of Ginger. Heartbreaking. The floors are beautiful. He does a fantastic job. I was super impressed by the Gilboys brand after watching Terry and Ash finish their floors and when they use the product on furniture, the pieces look lovely. The small table you picked up for them, doesn’t look like the same piece after he used the product on it. Enjoy spring and many hugs!!! ❤️
Great looking. The grain of the wood is spectacular
Your laugh is infectious - please don’t stop! The floors look great, and the flowers too! What a copper haul! And I’m so jealous of your mortar and pestle. ♥️ I bought a small one, and the pestle is a joke - a skinny stick of a thing. I’ll have to make my own. Thanks for showing yours; that design looks easy to make. I’m so sorry to hear that you lost another pup. 😢 The lives of our four legged family members are always too short. Big hugs.
Thank you Peni.. I don’t think I could stop laughing 😂😂😂, even if I tried. 😉😘. The copper finds were lovely and the mortar and pestle….. I was looking for a ling time. We must have the same one. Almost useless! And you are right, not a difficult design at all. We deeply appreciate your kind words for Ginger. We miss her so much ❤❤❤. Hugs and love from Colombe
Very sorry about your loss. Pets are like family and it's so difficult. Thinking of you both.🙏🙏

Patrick and Stuart, the floors look fantastic. Bravo, Brad! Patrick, you were doing some pretty intense planting when Stuart came by to chat. You were laser focused. If it all sprouts and grows, you will reap an abundant harvest. I'm anxious to see your garden in August. The copper pots are awesome. I buy kitchen utensils as I come across them too. I just bought a used All-Clad LTD large frying pan for $15. I couldn't pass it up. You're making great progress. ❤ from TX!
