UnHerd's Freddie Sayers meets Sohrab Ahmari.
Since October 7th, old divides between Right and Left on support for Israel were predictably resurfaced. Less expected, however, was a new civil war on the online Right. Compact founder and key figure in the so-called ‘New Right’ Sohrab Ahmari joined UnHerd’s Freddie Sayers to discuss it.

    • I'm not British, but I agree 💯. We can't vote our way out of this. We need to take back our culture and become such a dominant group that governments have no choice but to listen us and not Diversity. Just imagine if we did government for our own communities better than government does? If people were willing to contribute small amounts of money it could happen. We could provide secure housing to young people who wanted children. We could provide schools. We could have churches, the cool churches of Australia in the 1970s. No morning services, Sunday is a day off work. A short service steeped in culture. Followed by beer and BBQ, icecream and fizzy drinks for the kids. Cool youth groups and teen discos. When you are five million strong. Your government will start listening.

  • 70 % of legal America is right wing currently. But as the core orientation and direction thats been the base hospitality that all others work on the wings has self sacrificed now for 80 years for greater good so to speak. It will always be pro isreal and hold the sale allys. It's no ending or changing no matter how anti war it becomes. As you all know uk borh American decendants are fundamentalist who warned of anthromorphized astronomy and geology and mechanized biology while building agency in computation bots while long-term change comes from strong embassies building underground railroads saving one soul at a time bottom up inside out ( derogatory statement isolationist) We can't gather consensus to ww1 & 2 without Jacksonian likeminded majority word & context building out America. Just like now where we can't hold consensus majority without supporting both sides of a war has to be repaired before we mess up and lose support for isreal and our strong allies. But now the evidence in our 1900s structuralism vs computation paradigm is something everyone can weigh and measure thats no longer some essentric global fringe American Christian for sight.

Are simple explanations, like follow the money, out of vogue? Do we prefer vague ideas like left, right, hawk, isolationist, and neo-whatever? When the world becomes mysterious I think it might be appropriate to re-evaluate your views. At least, that is what engineers and scientists find useful.

  • If Ukraine "might be a European problem", then he's assuming that the destabilisation of Europe wouldn't matter to American interests, an extraordinarily naive attitude. Europe is indeed scrambling to become more independent, something that I've always favoured, but at this point, Ukraine simply needs all the help that they can get. We're talking about a window of a year or two. Besides, almost all of the American money flowing into Ukraine actually stays in the US economy in the form of arms sales. This is existential, and the price of stability has never been lower for the Americans. As for NATO provoking Putin, right now, I frankly don't give a damn. Even if Ukraine agreed to cede territory, it wouldn't end there. Given Putin's history, this is quite obvious.

    @robertalenrichter@robertalenrichterАй бұрын
    • Putin has invaded two countries in 25 years, both neighbours on the black sea to arrest their ascension to NATO (ie to US military staging posts). There's nothing in that history to suggest he has any intention to attack NATO let alone anything which makes it 'obvious'. Its good old boogeyman propaganda

    • That's because the alternative media space is much smaller in the UK, people with views outside of the Overton window can be controlled much easier than in the US - that is why Jeremy Corbyn got destroyed so easily - the few media orgs that supported him had minimal influence. Basically, in the UK, if the BBC disagrees with you you're done. The British are also much more obsequious than Americans, which is why even the right are so eager to please with performative Jew worship.

    • What is "the extent" exactly from what you heard in this interview? A claim of a tweet having 500 likes in a country of 335 million is your guage or what? Have you considered that you might not be likely to see or hear these views even if they do exist? Censorship, fear of backlash, maybe even being visited by the police for being mean online might play a role in why a person wouldn't talk about these views even if they believed them.
