Lighter weight and smaller size can lead to a virtuous circle where a smaller drivetrain can propel the tank. Since the drivetrain is smaller it needs less armor to protect it, which weighs less, which can be propelled by a smaller drivetrain…

I have to clarify that europe was not just leaning back saying 'we'lllet the Us handle it'. The US for a long timebworked very hard on keeping European defense industry as small as possible, as a way to secure its position and influence. Countless european defense programs got killed of by lobbying of the United States to sell their own products. Notable are quite a few prolific aviation programs that where dropped in favor of the starfighter involving lobbying and corruption on every level. So, paul, now standing there, as an American and blaming eyropean social security for the problems that in large part where caused by the American foreign policy of the last 70 years, might be a very american thing to do but is also quite short sighted (if not dishonest).
