  • I’m literally a 26 year old guy who’s been a firefighter/EMT for the past 4 years. I just made the decision to go back to the army to get into helicopter pilot school…with the aspiration to fly EMS civilian side. Welp, that’s it. The universe has spoken. I’m going.

I'm numb and have pain but shit unless there's a doctor sitting on top of me, I am ready to find grants, loans and whatever I have to. I stopped after 9-11 because I was wrong about the state of the industry. I thought I would never see any flying job higher than a flight instructor as long as there was plenty of ex/current-military pilots to hire. I can walk, think and see. And fly.

I have flown in a host of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and absolutely loved it. I always wanted to become a pilot and it was actually in my top 3 things that I wanted to do in the Army. I am now 40 years old and my children are almost grown up and I'm considering it once again. I just wanted to say thank you for your dedication to the craft and for sharing your experiences and knowledge with others! I'm currently a Union Boilermaker and do Specialty Weld overlay and I make good money but I usually have a couple months off a year so hopefully I can make it happen! Cheers

  • Do helicopters pilots ever have a conflict or an argument(s) with the medical staff? And if so what is the out comes?

    @cmritchie04@cmritchie044 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely! How it’s handled depends on the company, and is one of the major things you should ask before signing on. My first company said pilots were only bus drivers and had to defer to the medical staff. I didn’t stay long there. Others treated everybody as team with specific areas of responsibility, which is the way it should be done.

      @jimmcneill3831@jimmcneill38314 жыл бұрын
    • Great question. Best way I can describe it is this: When going through initial training for the EMS company that I worked for, made it very clear. They stated, "do not get in an argument with the medical crew. It does not matter who is right or wrong. We are providing a service to the hospital. You as the pilot will either be moved, or your employment terminated, regardless."

    @kasengrucholski2240@kasengrucholski22404 жыл бұрын
    • Part 61 you typically just do home study and whatever ground training uour instructor gives you. Part 141 are schools with curriculum provided along with testing. Both can be just fine, it depends on the individual student. I was in a part 141 for my private rating and all other ratings were part 61.

  • People are living and flying longer BUT....is the FAA raising the mandatory retirement age? Last I checked, it was 65 for airline pilots. Not sure what else it applies too.
