So I am happy with shorts, or small update videos until the longer videos come out! Whatever you want to do! Just do not take on too much and burn yourself out!

  • Hi Mark, Personally I am not really into this sort of short film but you need to advertise and keep your audience knowing that you are still there. They will simply go else where otherwise! It is simple fact of life. I come to your channel for your abilities and, even more so, your story telling. I think there is space for both so keep it up please.

  • I vote absolutely keep the shorts coming. We are all waiting on Z9 videos from people so it’s nice to get the update that it’s coming soon. I’ve watched Jan Wageners and it was great but I’m really waiting to hear from you and Steve Perry who have shot a lot more with Nikon. Anticipation is killing me to get the Nikon guys’ take on it so the shorts and updates help ease the pain!

    • Big fan of your channel by the way too. I’m just getting in to wildlife photography and most of the channels have been great about teaching theory, camera technique, composition etc; but I like how you show us names of birds and make a good story out of all your trips. Makes yours more fun and interesting to follow. Additional kudos: You also are great about putting your camera settings in text for almost every picture on the display. That REALLY helps us beginners out a lot more than you pros probably think. I find myself pausing videos on your pictures with those settings and going to my Lightroom to find pictures similar to that and comparing. Really helps me To associate the way you were set up for those conditions with my own pictures and see what I did right or wrong. Basically comparing my pictures with your pictures with settings displayed helps build the idea in my mind about how to read a scene and know more intuitively what my exposure settings should be for different scenarios without as much trial and error (I.e. looking at back screen and adjusting exposure settings a hundred times until my subject inevitably takes off before I get it dialed). Repetition repetition repetition I feel like is what it takes to learn Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO for wildlife. Outdoor conditions change constantly so we’ve got to really work on the skill of reading a scene and knowing what we will need exposure wise before we take the shot. Especially since our subject is apt to take off and disappear at any given time!

    • @@MarkSmithphotography Yup! Photographing wildlife in Canada in winter is really challenging on the body, especially when having to keep relatively still to avoid scaring birds...I wear 4 layers, hand warmers inside my gloves and enjoy sitting on the snow/ice by the river edge to photograph the various ducks and more (in Ottawa). Looking forward to your upcoming video's Mark. The "shorts" are informative, and those who don't choose to watch them should't necessitate your abstention from producing them (IMHO). Stay "warm" in your Florida winter :-)

  • Hi Mark, "long time listener first time caller" :). I appreciate anything you're willing to share but of course always waiting for the longer videos. I was a Nikon shooter for at least three decades but unfortunately had to buy into Sony mirrorless system for obvious reasons. I still have a lot of quality F-mount glass, which I would love to use again. I always loved Nikon's colors and ergonomics. I hope you will compare your experience with z9 to Sony cameras. Especially to Sony 7RIV. Thank you for your awesome KZhead content.

I have also picked up a Z7 with the FTZ adapter and am really amazed at how well these old manual focus lenses work with the Z7 when using the focus peaking function. I also love just about any video you will put out there Mark. So short or long I will watch them all.

I am not a fan of the shorts, but I look at your shorts as a way to say hey y’all this is what I’m up to, almost like a short text to let us know your alive. Still a Nikon shooter here (D500), can’t yet afford the A1 or Z9, but maybe my wife will give me a budget for one next year or two. If you want to ditch one of your older mirrorless I would happily take the donation 😁.

I have understand that my 500PF works well with the Z9 but don't focus faster. I will love to hear what you think about the Z9 with the new 400mm f2.8. • Mark, if you get a chance - please comment on your Z9 review if you've found a way to not dedicate three programable buttons to three AF modes. Example: Small Eastern Blue bird perched between beautiful berried branches ready to strike the ground to find food: Fn1- single point to lock on focus, AF-On (3D with animal eye detect to track it to the ground). Or your favorite Osprey in the sky using say Fn2 (wide area - S/L) to quickly lock on, and then 3D on AF-On to track (or leave it on wide). Also elaborate on how Sony avoids this issue (if they do) and if you use banks at all. Thanks.
