  • Just posting a quick correction to tonight's news video - while both Bachmann & Accurascale are producing MK1 coaches, Accurascale's MK1s are the Non-gangway TO variety, the newly announced Bachmann ones are in fact different. The ones I showed were the TSOs. Apologies for any confusion I've caused!

    • However, Bachmann have announced 57ft Mk1 suburbans in a previous season at £34.95 each RRP. They are available for purchase from retailers now. These would be direct competitors for Accurascale

But to hear about them pulling something like this has me questioning whether I should refuse my most recent several hundred dollar purchase of their wares because what they did is, in my opinion, a dick move.

This could have been something that went completely under the radar and would have been forgotten a month from now, but you giving this a bigger platform will hopefully make Bachmann realise they cannot get away with abuse of the copyright system like this.

  • The Rapido fireless loco looks beautiful too, theres one at Shildon that I always enjoy seeing when I visit, and this model will open up a lot of opportunities for industrial layouts like paper mills and gas works. And I love what Rapido are doing with their liveries and how that are very open to making mkre when people ask. World of Railways have commissioned an NCB blue livery for the Bagnalls, Locomotion models have commissioned an NER Blue H class, its a new approach to special liveries that I dont think weve seen from a manufacturer before.

  • In terms of features, the accurascale model includes working fan (on all versions), and all the lighting configuration and is 169 quid with a full margin for your retailer - not forced to 15% discount to achieve any sales

  • The other issue with Accurascale is they want paying in advance. With Hatton's our orders for when they are dispatched which is much later this year or next. I have to pay for 4 locos by May. A note about the Accurascale warranty. My class 37 lights didn't work. I sent mine back and Accurascale said it worked for them. They blamed my controller. A Gaugemaster Prodigy Express that works perfectly with every other manufacturer I have. Not helpful.

  • I like the look of Rapido’s Fireless locomotive. After seeing the real one in Shildon, it’s tempted me to consider buying one when it comes out. There could also be a chance I might get some genesis coaches. I’ve got loads of Hornby ones and I think they’re great, but there are some liveries (GER brown and L&YR brown for example) that only Hattons produce. I have faith in Rails of Sheffield after ordering from them previously so I might have to check the genesis coaches out (provided that they’re in stock).

  • Oh, some other news from Hornby. Remember that old and obsolescent 8F? Well, Hornby just re released it for over £200 at the retailers. And just under £250 at RRP. As far as I can tell from the pictures and description, the only upgrade is the DCC interface to 21 pin, and that new loco-tender connection. I think it even has the non standard front coupling.

    @warrenlehmkuhleii8472@warrenlehmkuhleii84723 ай бұрын
    • They've upgraded the DCC system but in return downgraded it's appearance as the smokebox dart and top lamp iron are now molded instead of being separately fitted like it has been for nearly 20 years now. Definitely a Railroad range model in all but name honestly. The loco to tender connection was upgraded several years ago on a previous batch.

The NRM editions and other manufacturers are almost never stocked in my experience. Of course the Rails, TMC and Kernow exclusive models are not available either. Interestingly, of the 4 shops listed by Accurascale as Australian stockists, one of those with a web site does not list any Accurascale models on their shop site - not even the brand in their list of brands, another has only a few of the Manors, and the third has a few of the wagons - but often just one in stock. Most are shown as sold out. None of these are within 1000 klms of my layout. One tends to fall into the habit of buying from the UK retailers and not fishing in the local puddle. All the best

  • I'll go on record as saying I'm glad Bachmann has finally announced the class 31. It was no secret Bachmann were going do the 31 either, it was abundantly clear when they did the Farish N Gauge class 31 that they'd eventually do a 00 model although they did play their cards close to their chest on that one. I expect the same with the Stanier 8F eventually. I've not had much joy with the Accura 37, so am apprehensive about the class 31s I have on order from them. Bachmann on the other hand I find that while they are expensive they are also dependably reliable, and have announced some core liveries which Accurascale hasn't, so for me at least I get the liveries I want on a model I trust more.

  • Bachmann pulled the same stunt in the US with the USRA Light Mikado. Broadway Limited had/has a very good version in the hobby and established themselves as a quality product for that loco class. Bachmann came out with theirs. It is $100 cheaper and you can tell. BUT for the same cost as a new Bachmann you can pick up as used (and in good shape) of the same class for a better loco in every respect. Sound, detail and quality are all better, even with an older QSI decoder.

I was hoping to see a 2nd run of the Johnson midland railway 1p tank engine As of all the rest like rapido. And accurscale taking over the hattons orignals ect I’m excited for them to come

  • I cant say I'd want to pay £150 for a fan and the uncouplerwhich when you view those features in isolation is what youd be paying. I could do with some more mk1s (at least 3) plus I'm kit building a couple. . What we really need is a new batch of Mk2A TSOs as im not paying over £70 for one, which lets face it, is an old model. Since the ship carrying Accurascale's mk2Bs has docked and considering we're waiting for them to clear customs before Accurascale go through the batches and send them out. Then a week to receive them means maybe 2 or 3 weeks to get them.

  • I overheard a Bachmann rep telling my local model railway retailer that they don't sell many locos these days, most of the sales comes from the Woodlands range. It's seems that it that which keeps the company going. They and other companies are reluctant to make different models such as the Midland 2f or the L&Y Aspinall 3f. Such a shame.

    • The analog Bachmann 31 is the same price, but I understand where your coming from. I believe the normal sound fitted one is the same price as well, and it’s worth noting that Accurascale have been wiring their speakers wrong causing the sound not to work on sound fitted models (Check out Chadwick Model Railway’s Class 37 video for more info).

    • @@ModelRailwayFan38 yes I saw that video , for me personally I am not that bothered about ' super detail ' as long as it looks OK and runs well and is more durable like the older lima / airfix/ mainline ones as they looked the part and have a few of these and run ok , I think now people want less high end and more affordable railway stuff now.

  • For several years a German company could not even be named on one of the forums - there was a court injunction - the owner was incredibly unhappy with the criticisms levelled at him with no right of reply - All articles, reviews and comments were taken down - Things can get ugly. The company went on to produce some exceptional models but no one could talk about them - consequently it is very hard to find any records of that companies products on the web beyond a few items for sale in shops.

  • I like Accurascale models and have bought from both retailers and Accurascale itself. I made the mistake of adding a current stock item to a preorder. Acurascale say they do not retain any current stock against the order and will look to see if they still have some when the preorder finally arrives. The communication from them was not at all friendly - “your fault; suck it up” is the gist. Their website has improved to make the issue very clear that this will happen in certain circumstances. However, it is unclear whether it applies to an order of 2ABs which might arrive in separate shipments. Other posts about getting lights fixed indicates that the post sale service side at Accurascale is lagging the manufacturing and QA elements.

    • I must say, that’s pretty bad customer service. Also, I wouldn’t recommend that you buy directly from any manufacturer, as the retailers need support, otherwise they will go out of business, just like what happened to Hattons to some extent.

    • @@ModelRailwayFan38 You are right on both counts and I do buy direct only when I cannot get them from a retailer. I was after their crews for the Accurascale GWR engine I had bought from a retailer. The crews were not available from retailers and sending them to Australia by themselves would have more than doubled the cost. I will put a separate response on the price increase on that comment thread.
