I picked up the exact same combo, EOS R with 24-70 f2.8, right after the R5 came out. There was no way I could afford the R5 and the EOS R was a bit over budget as it was. But I had started to hit a wall with the M50 and have seen a huge improvement in my blacksmithing videos using it. So I am glad I spent the money. Of course I really wouldn't call myself a film maker, just a KZhead blacksmith. Thanks for the video.
How much did you buy 24-70 f2.8 I'll want to buy canon r with that rens....for my food videos.....
I was looking into this Camera this past week. Thank you for making this, Danny! Also, Thank you for being one of my biggest inspirations for leaving my old career of 10 years and getting into Video and photography. You’ve truly helped me discover my deep passion for this and for that I can’t thank you enough.
Aw dude that makes me tear up. What it’s all about. Happy for you man!
Yes! When you have true cinematography skills, you get gorgeous results with a low to mid-budget cameras, and Danny, you are a true master! I wish you will continue teaching us those cinematography skills no matter what gear you and we have, thanks!
This review was so impartial and unbiased - thank you!!! I bought the EOS R in March and struggled with the same things as you mentioned. Can’t wait to see what you can create with the A7SIII!!!
I like the vibe from your work. When I watch Peter’s vids I feel like I watching celeb, distant. Yours is more like friendly, a guy next door. Love it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks brotha! Peter is the goat tho!!
@@DannyGevirtz Yeah.. I know he is the #23 in the game of youtube. But I liked Steve Kerr.
@@OPDcompany underrated response lol. Love it.
@@chrismeetschris hahaha thanks
@@OPDcompany lmao nice nba reference
I always get this soothing feeling when I watch your videos and I've always thought your footages were gorgeous. Now I see that it wasn't the C200, but your edit, colors and sound that made me feel that way. Great video man! Gave me tons of confidence as an EOS R user! Cheers man, We love you too.
Me: *Upgrades to a C70 from an EOS R Danny: *Downgrades from a C200 to an EOS R
Haha I still have my c200!
@@DannyGevirtz this aged like milk
I've been using the EOS R for a year and I totally agree, it's an amazing camera! My films about traveling and working online have showed great quality because of this one.
I love my Eos R. It's still my main stills camera. Perfect B Cam for the C200 and my BMPCC6K, great youtube camera as well. Even used it in Antarctica when I couldn't use anything else since the weather was insane and it held up pretty well :). Lovely footage by the way man !!
That’s one thing about canon they always hold up. Thanks bro!!
We use it as our gimbal cam and find it mixes well with our C200 footage. Especially considering most people are viewing content on phones these days.
@@DannyGevirtz 100% man. Keen to see some more Maui content :). Makes me miss that place so much haha !!
@@OhanaFilms Yeah that’s the thing, 4K is plenty for 99% of the time :).
This is just the clarity i needed. Thanks Danny, love ya too❤️🤟
Danny: “A 1500$ camera will look like a 1500$ camera.” *Blackmagic has entered the chat*
Makes sense but he did mention he wants to take photos with it as well as video.
As well as having a smaller setup. Bmpcc is cool for the price though you need a whole setup to operate it
Haha I’ll have to try it out, but I said I needed some thing that takes photos as well
@@DannyGevirtz would be great to hear your thoughts about it! As you said it`s no hybrid camera and definitly has it's flaws but in terms of video IQ for the money the bmpccs are unmatched if you ask me.
@@ValentinKloss I can agree, can’t be beat for pure video quality :).
What lense did you use?
You are by far my favourite youtuber and have inspired me to make my own short films, so thank you for the great content you produce.
Heck yes EOS R! I won two and it's easily my favorite camera of all time. Affordable, reliable, and great quality- what more could you want? The MetaBones speedbooster makes it easier to shoot 4K video too. But the 1080 looks amazing and the workflow is so easy. Sorry, I kind of blurted a lot out there. I just get excited about the R.
Loved it bro as usual, you're awesome. I got the R myself and loving it thus far.
I can't stop watching your videos this is weird haha. It's a compliment. Something very soothing and entertaining at the same time. These videos are very good man and it's inspiring me to start shooting videos
Great video Danny! So stoked you moved to Hawaii! Such a beautiful place. I agree the eos r is good and if you don’t have a ton of dynamic range in your shot it can look great, but as you mentioned it’s a noticeable step down from the clog 2 in the c200 or other cameras. Hope you are doing well out there bro!
As an eos r owner and user for the past year and a half I can truly say that I love it! the cropped 4k is a little disappointing but I found myself most of the time shooting in 1080p and sometimes I even go down to the 120 fps at in 720p and it still an amazing camera. And as of the photo side of this camera is amazing. Your love to this camera will build as long as you keep shooting with it. I wonder what kind of professional things you would do with it like commercials or music videos or even a mini documentary this camera is a beast you just need to get use to it.
Love the content as always Danny! Quality is lovely!
tropical danny making bangers. Good stuff man
Great vid as always Danny and looking forward to seeing the results with the A7S3!!
Hey Danny! Congrats on the move to Maui. Thanks for the video. I too have been living in the world of cinema cameras for the best decade, primarily shooting on the Arri line up. I recently picked up a canon r6 for video, and was curious. When you bring your footage into post, do you keep it in the MP4 codec or transcode to pro res first? I missed a lot the DSLR movement, and am now trying to get the best quality I can from my mirrorless. Thanks!
Danny!!!! Got inspired AGAIN! Short story, due to the pandemic happening right now, it restricts me going out and shoot, and I slowly realise the my passion into photography and cinematography level are going LOW! When I finished watching the video I got inspired! Started to feel the vibe again and I can’t wait to head out to film something! Thanks DANNY, appreciate it! Stay safe!
I have had this camera for 2 years. It has been a good piece of gear in my setup. Looking to upgrade to the c70. I appreciate your thoughts on this. They support my experience with the EOS R. You are one of my favorite people on KZhead. All the best to you and those you care about. -Mike
It is surprise to see you move so far (it seems), but happy for you man! love your lighting course, like your opinion on the R camera. I am shooting old EOS 6D MK2 for fun now, but looking forward to watch your future reviews to help me decide which camera I should go for the next. Cheers
Hold up, camera talk later. Can I just say how CLEAN this new set up looks like??
I was gonna say the same thing!! Love the map in the bg
Haha thanks bro!!
@@DannyGevirtz it actually looks amazing!👍🏻
Nice to see you settling in bro. It looks beautiful out there
Always hyped when you upload Danny, great video!
Thanks Matt!
Yes!! Halfway on the video but loving it so far haha thanks so much for posting!
I picked up a used EOS R and some lenses for it, and absolutely love it. Usually shoot in 1080 and up res it, but I don't shoot for pro purposes (yet). Loving the camera and it's colours out of camera, which usually meets the use case I have. You did an awesome job getting lots out of it, but you can definitely see where it's not "pro" in relation to cinema cameras or even the R5 or A7siii. Hope you're loving Maui. It's one of the most amazing places I've had the pleasure of visiting!
Love your work man! You inspire me!
i dont know why i keep came back to your channel , watching what you are talking and spreading positive messages, and that makes me very happy when i felt depressed .
Super dope vid man, I just did a video comparing the Canon Eos R6 to my older Eos R too and I also noticed that the colors and shadows just break down pretty easily on the Eos R. Really glad I bought the R6 because I feel like the quality difference is day and night! I will keep the Eos R tho to have a dual cam setup for my KZhead and other things!
Awesome video man ! I agree, you can totally get high quality looking images out of this camera. You just have to be more intentional as far as lighting and time of day. But also cinema cameras just have that extra sauce in the look lol
We love you, too. The color grade on that footage was awesome.
Thank you so much!
I bought this camera at the same exact time the R5 and R6 came out. Like Danny said it’s a great camera for starting out and even a huge step up from any of canons Rebels. I’d recommend this camera to anyone. That’s the highlight limitations, but there’s also so much you can control and take advantage of as well. And let me say it for everyone else, WE LOVE YOU TOO DANNY.
Looks cinematic AF to me 👍 But I wasn't pixel peeping, on my 13 inch screen. Your color grade is my favorite. Rich yet subtle and earthy tones.
Glad you did a video on this. I wondered how well the video really was on the eos r being that it had a fairly high bitrate.
I love my EOS R. I think of it like a 16mm film camera, and shoot projects that vibe well with that aesthetic. The super 35mm crop that it shoots in 4k has been a cinematic standard for years. The Abyss, Terminator 2, and True Lies were shot in Super 35 so theres ways around the crop and it can be empowering if you strategize for it.
The EOS R looked really good! Nice new setup by the way!
Thanks for the video! Really been considering upgrading to the R!
Never have had a Canon before, but it’s so interesting to hear about how they operate! Also love the new setup! 💯✔️🔥
Got my Canon R6 few months back ago and I just have to say that the overheating issue really messes everything up whenever it comes to video shoot. Recently I just got my brand new EOS R (on a limited stock available) and it’s really not bad when it comes to comparison with the R6. But I have to admit the R6 takes much better video quality than the EOS R. So what made me changed my mind to own a EOS R is all about the overheating issue on the R6. What’s best about it is that the EOS R records under H264 with Canon Log and it works well on most computers such as Windows PC during post productions without any lag. Yeah... I don’t owned a Mac. I think it’s worth having the EOS R to do video shoot making it as my A camera than the R6 as my B camera. So to those whom even think about selling their EOS R away, better think it twice.
I am so excited for your channel to grow exponentially but I am also very sad for that day because I love seeing how much you're able to interact with all of us now :(
Haha I’ll try my best to keep chatting with you
The footage looked great!! I love my EOS R, it's my main camera now I use for commercial work and vlog stuff. Just did a while video on why I bought it over the other cameras that came out!
I thought you captured some awesome images. And your color grading looks incredible. That shot at 7:01 is the best! You would know the difference between what the camera captures and what you do to make it look so good. For me all I see is awesome footage.
i went from a Canon M50 to R5 ;) can say ive still got alot to learn with the R5 but the quality is amazing. Love your videos always feels honest
New space looking CLEAN! We love our EOS R, but I definitely think it depends on the experience of the person behind it. It’s certainly a phenomenal camera to learn on, and it’s great for run and gun stuff!
Hey man I'm looking at the 90d or eos r for hybrid shooting mainly photography, but also some car feature videos, which one would you recommend I go for?
i literally have been looking at getting this camera! so im so glad you made a video reviewing it
It’s pretty solid!!
Love the new set up Danny! Did you shoot with your black pro mist on as well as your VND like you do with your c200? Might help with some of that highlight roll off you weren’t a fan of! Excited for your take on the A7s3 😁
great video bro! I’m sure this is going to help a lot of people. I think the EOS R is great for anyone that hasn’t experienced cinema camera image quality or someone who needs a canon B camera. It’s a great photography camera as well. I still have mine and I use it for everything. I’ve even used to go shoot some stuff for corporate BMW paired with a C300 so if definitely capable as long as you know the limitations.
May I ask what table tripod you used? It seems awesome! Great video btw! How do you properly expose your Log footage on Eos R?
Love the new setup!!
Loving the color grade for the footage!! Might just have to pick up the luts for my Canon R5 😁
The R was a great camera when I had it! The Clog is great if you can expose properly and vloging outside is perfect for that.
I've heard a lot of tips RE: exposing for C-log. What do you recommend?
@@usmanmajid7837 Well on the EOS R its always best not to under expose becouse the noise in the shadows is crazy bad. The R6 doesn't have this problem. But its a balancing act between the shadows and the Highlights. I would say as long as you are not peaking a massive part of you image exposing for the shadows works well on the R but the R6 I just expose for the highlights. and lately I have simply done 75% lumi for skin tones and things have gone smooth but that is with R6 zebra lines.
@@DanielWhiteWithCanon Nice, thanks for the tips Daniel! How are you getting on with your R6? I mentioned in a comment elsewhere that I'm still rocking a 70D but so desperately need to move into the full frame, 4k, c-log, higher-frame rate game now that I'm doing more serious client work. I have my eyes on the R6 too but oh man.... the overheating issues are giving me anxiety, otherwise I'd have probably already gotten it! As someone who doesn't have big budgets to play with, buying a camera that expensive (for me) would mean it'd need to be my main driver. And that means all kinds of shoots, including longer podcast episodes that I film or interviews etc and I just cannot fathom spending so much money with constant overheating concerns.
Totally man!! Thanks!
Great video! I have had the R for almost 15 months and it has been my work horse for wedding videography, apparel photo shoots, and corporate video. Is it great at anything? No. I is it good at most things? Yes. The ONLY complaint I have with it's video capabilities are the noisy shadows it produces when there isn't much light. Thanks Danny!
Love your videos man.
Man, footage looked clean to me! Obviously breaking it down to the details it I can see what you mean. Overall though, pretty impressed. Also, Maui looks incredible! Hoping to make it there, been to Oahu twice!
EOS R is still super relevant in 2021 tbh (i would love to have the R5 but just not ready for the file size management of all the big files.) - just wish it does have 10bit options for us to use. love the video!
Beautiful shots dude!
You’re gunna love the A7S3. PS, love you 2.
Hi Danny, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the canon EOS R. I can't wait to get mine. Danny, I was trying to see if I could use the luts you made but unfortunately the link seems to be broken. Let me know if you still have those luts available. Thank you and have a great day Danny!
Awesome video man!!!
Hey, how do you feel about the Z Cam S-6 or the Z Cam line in general for a entry Cinema Camera?
Danny I have the EOS R, its a beautiful camera and the image quality in the hands of a pro like yourself, well you see it yourself. Beautiful.
Bro, I CANNOT get over how you light all your videos. Im taking notes every damn time xD So good!
Haha shout out the sun! Thanks so much!
I’ve just picked the EOS R. More than enough for me
I'm looking to upgrade my camera and this Is exactly wha I needed. Also hearing about you testing Sony is music to my ears
I love my EOS R! 😎 It is not always the numbers that count. It may not have the strongest technical features but it is a tool that can become the best companion you will always carry with you!
Love the new setup!
I just got the Eos R i want to know if i can record certain types of videos before i send it back and upgrade. Do you have contact info?
I'm right there with you man. I've had the EOS R and I have loved it. However the 4K crop has always been disappointing. Looks like I see an R5 in my near future.
Would you ever come back to canon with r7/8 for personal travel since it shoots photo over fx3?
thanks for your insights. I have been using the EOS R for our travel and hiking videos for about a year. Works just right for my needs. 👍 I am interested to see what you thing about the Sony.
It seems like most cameras nowadays can get the image that you want if you work hard enough for it. Obviously, there are still limitations and they won't compete with full-fledged Cinema cameras, but when it comes to KZhead I think they're more than enough. Great video, I loved the footage!
Thanks for the video. I am exactly wondering what camera I should get to have a smaller package but good video.
I film all of my KZhead videos on the R. I love it for what it is. With great skill, like you display here, the images you can make are amazing. I agree with all of the points you made. And I did invest in the Atomos Ninja V so that I can unlock the 10-bit color although I rarely use it because it's cumbersome for what I'm filming.
Dang, that new set looks fire!
Woah! Caught of guard with the unexpected upload. Ending the day on a high (from the other side of the world). Loved the footage a lot. But waiting for you to try the a7siii and share your thoughts, can't wait.
Also, love the map in the background.
Great video, did you have a Pro Mist 1/8 filter on it AND (or) a variable ND?
love you man,Sending love from South Africa
Hi, What is the camera and lens in use when you sit at the desk?
Hi Danny! I really admire you so much, I'm a big fan of yours lucky to witnessed your journey here YT. I hope you can visit the Philippines someday and have travel content from here.
Man that’s dope!!
You can use denoiser ? Do you ? If you not why not ? I'm curious to know your thoughts about that!
I think you’re doing to have a great time with the A7siii 😁 as always thanks for inspiring the community
Haha I think so too! Thanks!
Where did you get that funky mini tripod!?! It looks good 👍 One of the tripod links below is broken. Thanks for the video.
what would you recommend in the canon range for film over the Eos r please ?
Awesome video as usual Danny! Would it be possible to do a video on how you've tackled the challenge of moving to a new place and finding work as a freelancer to make a full time living? I would like to move but the thought of having to establish a client base from zero is very intimidating -- I'd love to hear how you are going about it
Hey man, thx for making S tier vids. Rly inspiring
This new office/room looks amazing :))
I like watching your video bro, because you so humble ,i like the way you talk.
This is my current camera. It is really nice to see what you have captured using it. Open m eyes a bit more to what I can do with it. I do plan on creating some videos myself that I want to look as cinematic as possible. Thank you for the dope video Danny! I was hoping that maybe one day we could collaborate after I start growing. Since you were in Philadelphia I figured it wouldn't even be that far of a trip but now that you are in Maui, when that day comes, and it will come! I will gladly fly over to you LOL. I will happily visit Maui. Peace Danny! Love you too man.
I also got paid today so thank you for sharing your LUTs :) haha
Can we ask what did you shoot this video with and did you use an nd filter ?
Well, it's an amazing camera that's for sure! The whole idea is that it's the filmmaker that makes the camera better.
What were your settings for the first set of shots?
great video Danny !
I love you more, and what are your thoughts on the Panasonic S1H? I own it and it's so fun to grade, only flaw is Auto focus but I've been manual focusing my whole life.
I think the cinematographer is WAYY more important than the camera and fortunately you're one of the greatest cinematographers I know of so you could have shot on a go pro and it would have looked like a cinema camera 😁congrats on the move Danny! Stay healthy, lot's of love ❤️
