Absolutely! Sheila gets a lot of glory as an owner BECAUSE she put the right advisors in place AND trusts them to do their job. God I love this front office. I don’t know if there is another fanbase that appreciates their executives the way the Lions do.

We dropped like 7 of our last 10 passes
That ricochet that looked like and interception, but turned into a touchdown, was a huge kick in the nuts. Everything went downhill from there. Even if it was just an incomplete pass, this game turns out differently.

Doubt they even have a winning record this year. They lost too much this off season. Plus greenbay and chicago are going to be a problem, chicago is stacked. Greenbay is well coached. Ankle biting will only get you so far. Cool they made the nfc championship, they won't be back for another 30 years

You did a nice take on the Lions turnaround. The one thing you misspoke on was your take on Martha Ford. She went to the league for help in picking a new GM and that's when Bob Quinn's name was brought into the conversation. For an interesting back story of Sheila Ford Hamp, she has always wanted to be involved in football. After graduating from college she approached Pete Rozelle and asked about a job in the NFL and was told "Those jobs are for men." 🤔 ,

They haven't lost any key starters aside from Jonah Jackson and Cam Sutton. And they signed free agents and made draft picks to replace them and improve the defense. You're probably right, but it's football. Anything can happen.
Their division isn't going to be easy the next 5-6 years. Bears are stacked, just depends on Caleb. Greenbay should be good. Fun division this year allt of unknown.
At the Wild Card Game, the fans showed how the “filler quarterback” was thought by fans. Look it up on the Dan Miller interview with Goff where they show Goff the entire stadium chanting, at 117db “JARED GOFF, JARED GOFF”. It was magic

Spelman, another former lion, has been instrumental in the marriage of the front office with the staff and team.
What I’ve learned from the path this Detroit team has taken is that it’s not only about the talent of the players that matters in signing them with the team. But it’s more importantly how they fit in the culture of the team and community.
The Lions fanbase appreciates their executives more than any other sports team. History was painful and the turnaround starts at the top.
That changeover in 2021 has been absolutely crucial. Idc what anyone says, MCDC is an amazing coach and after watching Rod Marinelli, Schwartz, and Patricia, I am certain of that. The more they build this team the better they'll be. Brad Holmes is incredible too. Sooooo excited for this season.

Lions are going 13-4 and winning the Superbowl this year, everyone wants to write us off already as a one year wonder and act like we lost a step in the offseason, when we have already reloaded our roster and addressed our problem areas in the secondary through FA and the Draft the last couple nights. We are ready to be an elite franchise.
I want to see a Browns vs Lions Super Bowl. The two were basically the Chiefs & Patriots of the 1950s.

Speaking as a Life long Lions fan, having grown up in the city and having major ties to the city. This is utter bliss.
Nice doc. Surprised at the deep cuts like Woodward sports. Also that beast of a tackle will be a first ballot inductee, pronounced penay sool (like spool, w.o the p). Caldwell was nice, but MCDC bleeds Honolulu Blue
Brad’s drafting has been incredible. 2021-2023 has had at least 3 players in every draft that you can point to and say without hesitation that they’re great players, at minimum. Sewell/McNeill/St. Brown, Hutchinson/Williams/Joseph, Gibbs/LaPorta/Branch. To do what Brad has done with such consistency can no longer just be ascribed to dumb luck. This is now an organization that knows what they’re doing.
This was a great. As a true fan it really broke down the disconnect over the years.
We got a Micro Mike Kimber sighting at about the 11:35 mark. I wholeheartedly approve, as I love that guy and his knowledgeable, yet slightly spergy style.
What I love is when Dan says “not everyone can play here”. Finally we have leadership that wants character first.

I was at the Rams playoff game, when I say we made sure to make it known that Jared Goff was the QB for us I mean that we chanted every opportunity we got and super loud at that. I felt bad for Stafford getting boo’d the man did all he could for Detroit but that’s just how it is. That is why you saw Amon Ra chant Jared Goff at the draft during introduction.

5:52 Hands down, bar none, no qualifications, this is undeniably true. I watched the whole revolving door era after Wayne Fonts was fired. Mariucci. Ross. Morhinweg. Marinelli. Granted, there were a few single season coaches with worse winning percentages. But none, none wasted more talent and made players hate coming to work and drove the program further into the ground to boost their own ego than Pencilhead. F--- Patricia.

The hiring of Bob Quinn & Matt Patricia really set the franchise back but it led to the hiring of Brad Holmes & Dan Campbell. They have changed the culture and instilled a winning atmosphere. Bite those damn kneeCaps
I wouldn't say set them back. It really slingshot them to where their at. If it wasn't for them fk everything, who knows what Shelia would have done. When they showed Shelia on Thanksgiving during Patricia last season, i knew then she was about to change everything. They made her feel in that moment how fans had felt for years, and it sucked. Her biggest contribution, in my opinion, is admitting she knew nothing and hired Spillman because of it, and the rest fell like dominoes.
Sheila knew the assingment and understands her role as an owner and stays out the way and lets brad and dan do thier thing. I wish all owners were as great as sheila
I understand why the narrative for NFL fans around the Caldwell firing is that is was questionable, but as a lions fan then, it was a consensus for most. The team regressed through his tenure, and we lost to a bad bengals team down the stretch to miss the playoffs in 2017. I liked Caldwell, but he had to go. The bad move was who we hired next

Don't forget the poor tackling/missed tackles. Reynolds wasn't playing on the defense that gave up 34 points. So glad cjgj is GONE.

Coach Caldwell was done wrong. I’m glad to have Dan and Brad now, but Caldwell was a good coach and the team played for him

@@KrichProductionshe was a very mid coach, he was a players coach, but not really fiery or motivating, and was horrible in game management. Yes he was one of the more successful coaches in lions history. But it was clear at the time he was not the guy to get us over the hump, firing Caldwell was the right decision, hiring Patricia was a massive disaster. But I’m glad it led us to Campbell
Some times you have to make some mistakes to learn.
Correction - 1-12 playoff record IN THE SUPER BOWL ERA. They won NFL championships prior to the Super Bowl's existence. Still, a sad playoff record overall.

Most people expected Caldwell to get fired. It was somewhat strange, but it was true. Looking back, Quinn is right. For a team that had been bad for that many years were probably should have been more patient.

I’d also like to mention that MCDC brought a new culture immediately. During the 2021 season the lions were very competitive. They never quit in any of the games. We could see the difference from past teams. I think they only lost 2 double digit games that season.

We will see this year if that culture has changed...be cause we been here before..when the lions in 93 went to nfc championship and fell apart the next year
Has anyone noticed that there seems to be similarities for some of these franchises turning things around... Poor ownership decisions, hiring a former Patriots coordinator to get rid of assets and then hiring a former player of the same team as head coach to turn around the franchise... Happy for Lions fans!
I think you missed a few opportunities to add some context and fun story telling to this. Like for example, you could have added the breaking point that ultimately lead to Patricia's firing which was the game against the Texans. Its funny because theres a famous shot of Shiela Hamp face palming in the stands during that game. Just little anecdotes like that, that help tell a more enriching narrative. Other than that, this was well done.
