I have no idea why you guys don't have a million followers. You dudes are solid !
We're working on it! Tell your friends!
I'd love to see how 7 PRC fits in to this comparison chart!
7 PRC is very close to 7 LRM. PRC is a slightly shorter case, but probably closer to a standard magnum overall length.
This was freakin awesome!!! Thank you.
This makes my brain so damn happy. Thanks Caylen.
OUTSTANDING Comparison. Great stuff to consider based on purpose of the rifle and application.
So this is a cool video, and I think it's worth mentioning that it's a bit of a remake and seems to be definitely influenced from a great youtube series called Sniper101 from TiborasaurusRex from 11 years ago. This take on it is a little updated, but Sniper101 is definitely worth checking out. it's a multi part series with a TON of good basic info. He does 3 or videos on cartridge dynamics, bullet selection and cartridge selection and it was those videos and his charts that got me started in long range over a decade ago.
Great stuff. My SAUM will be built by the end of summer and ready for elk season!
Extremely informative, I can see why you wanted the 7mm LRM!
great info. Thank you
Great information thanks
Thank you Sir! Great job👍 will you do comparison, 300 wsm, 338 LM, 6,5”47, 300NM? Thank you Sir
Great video
That was a great clip thankyou. Which powder do you run in the saum? and are you running a break or a supressor? im thinking about getting rid of the big 30 and going saum.
I really appreciate you walking us through a comparison of cartridges Caylon. The extra commentary is very helpful too. I'm really surprised your channel doesn't have 10's of thousands of subscribers.
You're most welcome. We're working on it. Admittedly, we've been neglecting KZhead so this season we're planning on hitting it harder.
Great info as I was looking at going up from 6.5 CM to a 300PRC but would like to know about 7mm PRC thanks 😊
After this video, i don’t understand why the main marks are stop of making the long range rifle platform in 7mmRM caliber. I love that caliber and i have some problems on find a new long hunting rifle with the 7mmRm. Right now only find 6.5creemoor, 308 and 300wm in every single company. Thank so much for that amazing video. You have a new subscriptor. Loving your channel
that took a lot of work...well done
Great info for a rookie… thanks
A great video, thanks for doing this. I'm currently torn (or was) between .308/6mm/6.5 for my next rifle as I'm just getting into practical rifle style shooting here in the UK. loads of guys shoot the 6.5C and love it but a few stalwarts do really well with .308. After watching this video I'm now removing 308 from the conversation however, the 2x 6.5's are now in contention along with the 6mmC!!! What sort of barrel life would you expect from those three at those velocities? I'll go and Google it now, but would love to hear your thoughts. I'm just getting into your videos and IG account so forgive me I've you've covered this and I've missed it so far.
A 6.5 CM you can expect them to go over 4K if you're not beating them hard. A 6.5 PRC, you can expect somewhere around 2-2.5K A 6 CM you can expect to get max 2.5K if you're shooting them slower, around 2950. At normal speeds (3100+) you'll probably get around 1.5-2K
@@MODERNDAYSNIPER so the 6.5C would be a good bet then, comprising a bit of balistics for the cost of swapping barrels? Barrel swaps can get really expensive in the UK so is a big consideration when looking into these things.
Love looking at the numbers! Debating on a 6.5 PRC vs a 7SAUM right now for a well rounded hunting cartridge. I'm really liking the idea of the 156 Berger EOL's in 6.5 PRC. Thoughts?
That's a tough on right there... If I didn't already have a lot invested into the SAUM when the PRC came out, I'd have definitely gone that route, but the SAUM loaded lightly with 160 class bullets is still perform better due to the inherent high BC of the 7mm bullets. Run the numbers though!
@@MODERNDAYSNIPER Thanks for the input Caylen!
I'm in the same boat. There's a nasty rumor that we are going to get a 7 PRC just to confuse the issue further
7 PRC should be coming out soon. It got SAAMI approved recently. Might be worth waiting for
I really enjoyed this lecture. But the gears are turning in my head for other calibers and different bullets 7-08 7RM 7RUM 270 25-06 243 308Norma 338LM I like looking at numbers
There's so much out there to chose from! Now that you have the knowledge of what to look for and how to find it, compare away!
What’s a bigger concern hitting the target or seeing your shots
When i rebarrel my tikka 300 winnag barrel for with faxon 1 in 8 twist will mess with free bore for 3.715 magwell will try 25 inch barrel i wanna try 250 atip
So a year late to the party on this video but for anyone reading looking at the 30 Cal's, I've had better results with both the 212 ELD-X and the 215 Berger HT out of 300 PRC with a 24" barrel. While the 230 has a higher BC its a small difference and the boost in muzzle velocity means that the intersection where the 230 starts to beat the 215 isn't until like 1050 meters (close to 1200 yards- .354 G7 for the 215 vs .368 for the 230). Now that's my numbers with my handloads out of my rifle on my range. I also only played with H1000 and saw better relative performance put of the 215's than the 230's. 3015 fps vs 2840 with better ES/SD. Your mileage may vary. But it's worth looking at the 215's for the 300 PRC/300 Win Mag class of cartridges if you're a 300 magnum guy. I've got too many big bears around, I like having the big bullet with a big frontal diameter 🤣
My 300wm shoots a 208gr pill at 2996fps, obviously loaded long (will still mag feed) with good brass life. 10 twist, 26" long, sammi chamber. Federal sells a gmm loading with 215gr bergers at 2850fps loaded past sammi. The problem I see with comparing new style cartridges to old is finding load data for loading long is not available. X amount of powder under x bullet will always produce the same velocity, just have to reload not following sammi specs, which most people are doing anyways. A great example is the 6.5cm, almost everyone reloading is above max pressure (not pressure signs, past max from the data) to get that edge competing. So the the point of view I have now is, find a bullet I want to shoot at x range, then find a cartridge that can push it the speed I want. So for me a 230gr bullet is 300rum territory
Quick question: I see .308/175 gr, but how come no .308/168gr BHTP on the chart?
Hi do you run the Saum in a short aciton, xm or a long action? cheers.
Short Action
I’ve yet to understand why the long range community is still running numbers in 6.5 PRC with a 140 class bullet. Heavy for 6.5 would be the 156 Berger. You can easily get 2900 fps out of that case and still have the velocity, drop and drift numbers that you have with the 147 ELD without burning the barrel. I know this because those are my numbers in my 6.5-284 running the 156 Bergers.
We subscribe to the "you do you boo" mentality.
😎👍
300wm 10 12 posted 26in 200gr eldx looking at high 2900b or 3k
You can get a 300 WM shooting 220's up to 3100 with the proper freebore. Barrel life will be garbage, but you can get it.
The 300 win mag was completely under represented
Agree. who's shooting it in 20" barrel
You've got "God's cartridge" up there then talk about hunters but no 30-06? In the words of Potato Joe; Come on man!
LOL, not a chance.... (Pssst... There's nothing the 30-06 does that the 308 can't, that's why no one shoots the 06' anymore.)
06 is just a long action 308
Mark from Australia shows that may not be the case.
