Here I demonstrate step by step how to clear the VSC Trac/Trac Off Light in a Toyota 4Runner without a scan tool. This Light is caused by the OBDII scan malfunction or something causing the vehicles computer to simply have an error. Follow these instruction to eliminate the error.
Check out these scan tools for helping to know what's wrong with your vehicle!
Scan tool options: amzn.to/49yLkj7
Toyota 4Runner Specific: amzn.to/48ykAO9
Paid a shop $3,000 for a brake booster replacement and they couldn’t even do me the courtesy of resetting the light. I’m very thankful for KZheadrs like you who go out of their way to help strangers.
it took me two tries but following his very thorough and clear instructions i was able to fix my dads car and i’m a 15 year old girl. made me feel kinda proud so if you are thinking about giving it a try you are more than capable of doing so!! :)
I was 14 when i did it the first time al kow 15 having to do it again you right though i felt proud when I did it
Your comment is why KZhead is the best
So why would a 15yo girl not be able to it as well, or better, than a 15+ yo boy? Don't fall into that trap.
It’s a set of simple steps that anyone who can read and listen can do. Thanks for posting! Mines fixed too now, and I’m 64 and a half!
so funny ahah. Well done!
I went to a dealership in Spokane, WA to have this same issue checked after a cheap set of chains destroyed the ABS wire harness, (Got that fixed at a non dealership garage, but they couldn't figure out the traction system error, I'm gonna show them your video). Dealership wanted to charge me $800 in parts and between $200 & 150 in labor..... Watched your video, made my tool, (almost the same as yours) and the problem was solved. Total cost 12 minutes 21 seconds watching your video, 15 inches of old 14/2 solid wire, another 90 seconds to go through the procedure, 15 minutes cursing the dealership under my breath......... Thanks much for putting this out there for us! You have probably saved so many people so much money and time!
04 4runner here.. this fix worked like a charm. thank you.
ladies and gentlemen he has freaking done it, these lights have been bugging me for foreeevvvveerrrr. thanks my man
I just tried your instructions and it worked!! Just writing you to thank you for taking the time to make this video. 4 years ago and still helping people, God Bless You and your family.
Been staring at those lights for a year. Made a jumper out of speaker wire and paper clips, like you showed, and in less than 1 minute my issue was solved. Clean, easy and quick. Well done. Thank you!!

This zero point calibration worked perfectly on my 2004 SR5 4WD V8 4Runner. I've been staring at those lights for two years and it took me a few minutes to turn them off (after watching this video 3x to be safe). Thank you sir!
When does ignition refer to starting the engine?
Didn’t work the first time. Then I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, reconnected the battery then I did the whole process again and problem solved. Thank you very much I really appreciate it.
I live in Paraguay South America... but I own an American Forerunner I did exactly as you said and it worked perfectly!! you're the man💪💪
U can save thousands of dollars simply due to the KZhead platform and ppl willing to share their knowledge...And that's awesome!
followed step by step and guess what... the lights went off... Did it to my bosses daughters 2003 4Runner... So far so good... Thank you very much
YOU DA MAN! After a dealer triggered the VSC light during a trade-in appraisal this was the only trick the turned the VSC light off. Even my OBD reader didn't detect it.
I just found out that a ABS /speed sensor wire near my driver side front wheel was damaged due to road debris. The gas cap fix did not solve my issue. Thanks to the poster for helping us.
I could not figure out why it was not working for me; I finally double checked my connections on the OBDII port and found that I was in 13 and 4 instead of 14 and 4. Now it worked. Thank you
Awesome DIY video! Thank you! My ABS sensor was crushed, shop quoted me $180 for the sensor (without harness) & free labor. He did me a favor and told me to do it myself. Replaced the sensor and ABS light was off but these two lights remained. I plugged in my obdII and obviously discovered the incompatibility. Then came across your video and BOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I just got one over on the world. Lol
Great instructions. My vsc Trac lights have been on for a year and this calibration fixed it in minutes. Thanks
my boy Louis just spun out on the slick roads of Las Vegas.. almost hit another car head on. Thanks to your video we were able to activate his traction control again. He thanks you.
Worked like a charm on our '04! Thanks for being so thorough.
Been driving my 4runner with the light on.. after this video. It's off!!! Best video and very helpful!
Wow!! I had that light running for over a year and have taken it to numerous places where they would charge me over $250 to look and “maybe” solve the issue. With your video it took me longer to find a paper clip in my house than the actual fix! Thank you for uploading this video!
THANK YOU!!!! I have had that stupid light on my 4runner for years and could never turn it off... this worked first shot took like 2 minutes and it stayed off!
Yesterday my 4runner's vsc and trac lights when on, last night I found your video, did the fix this morning and it worked great. Thank you for sharing !!
Best video on KZhead 🙏
Thanks so much for this post and video. I had this annoying problem in my 2003 4Runner. Initially the VSC TRAC and Service Engine Check light remained on. After diagnosing with an ODB reader, we determined I had a bad Oxygen sensor which we swapped out. After the swap, the check engine light went out, but the VSC TRAC lights remained on. I used this video to remove the error and it worked like a charm. This save me about $500 in maintenance had I taken it to the dealer.
Same for 2004 4runner ltd
Bravo thank you for this. Straight to the point, no BS, and most importantly it worked! Kudos.
Thanks for posting this. I’ve cleared my lights after getting service done on my 2003 4-Runner. Didn’t want to try and have the people that caused the problem rooting around again on my 4-Runner.
My 2004 4Runner's VSC and Check Engine lights keep going off; may be a gas cap, sensor or... Will find out soon. That said, even though the issue's likely not related to what was going on with your rig, your thorough DIY fix here is what's good about KZhead. Thanks!
This absolutely worked perfectly on my 2004 Toyota 4Runner. THANK YOU!
Perfect video followed step by step now no more lights on!!! Thanks
Thank you for posting this video. It worked great! The original owner of my 4Runner said the light has been on for 12 years I’ve had it for a year and have been just dealing with the light. I followed your video and the light is now off! Thank you again
Thank you so much. I just got the dealer to knock $1k off for this problem last night. Got home looked online found this video and tried it this morning. Worked like a charm!
Great video. Worked 100% on 2004 4Runner. Super simple, had it playing and followed your step . Thank you!
There are so many videos that depicted this manner. Your's is much longer in time (of which I prefer), and demonstrated EVERYTHING really well. Thank you.
I used an old extension cord, stripped the coating to expose the wire within. I didn't have any rubber wire connectors so I used electrical tape to connect the paper clip. Followed the instructions and it worked perfectly on my 04 4runner SR5. Thank you🙏🤙
Always great to hear success stories!
Great video extremely helpful . I followed the steps and boom it worked
Thank you bullseye. I had TRC Off, VSC, Brake Light and ABS lights turned ON after i'd put overload onto my 2001 model toyota crown, a couple of days ago on a vacation. I've no idea but known that was an error due to bad road and heavy load by sensors of the computer because there were no problem driving a long way. So, i searched on internet and found your video and followed the instruction, finally, hooray........all the error lights were gone. Thanks again, brother. God Bless You Onward!! P.S: I've shared your video on my Facebook for further reference. If you don't want it shared, please notify me. Thanks.
Htoo Aung Thin, glad to hear this video was so helpful! I am ok with you sharing with whoever needs the help!
@@bullseyenate231 Thanks bro.
What is a Toyota Crown? My 2001 4runner doesn't have connecting slots on # 14, it's just empty, as all cars have different connecting points for the universal OBD tool. Thanks!.
@@da324 If pin#14 Ts is blank, try pin#13 as a video in following link. May be it could work. kzhead.info/sun/hNOcpamRhXdsfoU/bejne.html
Awesome learning video. I followed your direction and now no more lights. I will update once I drive on the road. Thanks again for your help and God bless you.
What a great fix! Just in time for a snow storm! Thanks for a great, easy to follow video
Much appreciated. Your method is simple and straightforward. It costs me a little over a $1 for the wires from HD and it did the trick on my '04 4runner.
what kind of wires did you buy?
I followed the instructions to fix my 2004 4Runner and it worked like magic. Thanks for posting.
I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this very instructive video! I had my 2003 4Runner parked on a slight hill and the battery slowly went dead because I left a door open and the radio on with the key in the wrong position (on purpose while doing some work outdoors). The alarm started going off and kept going constantly with the ignition on. In addition, my Brake, VSC Trac, Trac Off and ABS lights were on. Worst of all, my brakes would barely stop the vehicle when moving forward. I charged the battery fully, checked all fuses and made sure the brake fluid was at the right level. All looked good but I still had the alarm and the dash lights on. I was thinking I’d have to get it towed to a mechanic because of it stopping improperly and I didn’t feel safe. I started looking online and I ran across one guy with a similar sounding problem and the same vehicle... a mechanic charged the poor guy $3000 to replace a module that did not resolve his problem! Yikes! After hearing that I started freaking out, picturing costs spiraling out of control. Then I ran across your video and watched it. Your explanation was straight forward but I watched it about 3 times to make sure I got it right. I followed the steps as described and it worked out beautifully! No lights or alarm and the brakes are functioning perfectly again. Whew! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Hi, I’m gonna try this to fix my 4runner. I am curious, can you please describe your brake problem with a bit more detail? I’m experiencing the same problem and am hoping this will fix it for me.
@@tonys.6482 I was also having some brake problems. Just felt like they were blocks of wood. I had tried to use a scan tool to purge the actuators and bleed the brakes. After doing that the VSC/TCS lights were on and brakes the same. Did this, lights off and brakes seem a lot better. Before pedal was almost to floor, now I get pressure much higher up. I think some other problems going on but way better feel than before.
This video is such a help. I have had to do this whenever I attach a scan tool. Mechanics say to just drive it and it'll go away. Thank you for this video!
Turned out I could just clear it on OBD reader but I have to applaud how informative and well done this video is! Great work.
How
How do you clear it with the obd reader?
@@subiyota You can’t. Has to have bi directional control. Most lower end units cannot do this.
Killer video life saver. Took me more time to watch this video a few times than actually complete the job haha. Thanks man!!
Thank you so much, I followed your detailed directions and got it right on the first try. God bless you my brother and thanks again.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. My light was on for 6\six months. The dealer said that it would cost between $100-$175 to fix this issue. I follow the instructions on this videa step by step and I am thill to say that it wored perfectly. Thanks bro.
Jeffrey Padmore, glad to hear it helped out man!
This works! On my 2004 4runner.. fantastic!
Dude this is a great find. Just replaced the A/F and 02 sensor and was about to start cussing that the Trac/Vsc light came on as soon as I started rolling. :)
Right on Dude... Thanks alot man, saved me a trip to the dealer
This was on for two years this was very informative and cleared and very step-by-step thank you brother!!!
Awesome, so glad that my video content was able to help you resolve this problem.
im an old gal in rural ontario. light came on. thank you for explaining this and how i can reset it.
Thank you very much. I followed you in the broadcast and it was all settled.Thank you very much.
Saved me “half an hour of work” from VIP. I just used paper clips and it worked first time! Thank you for the great video
Did you just use paper clips? If so, did you tap the two clips when you had to put them together 4 times?
@@brandonrodriguez626 yes just follow the video and instead of the wires he is using paper clips do the same thing
04 4Runner 200k+. Great video. Worked perfectly !
Thank you so much finally got the lights off after a year of trying to find the problem
Thank you for your help! I subscribed, I fighting a 04 4Runner with a bunch of the same problems.
UPDATE: This works perfectly without any problems and complications. Thank you very much for the video. IT HELPS!
goodyl, awesome glad the hear it was helpful.
Thanks! Just got a 4runner and had this happen after I scanned it, video was super simple and first try fixed it! Thanks again!!
Thank you Sir, Your step by step instructions were so easy to follow! 🤙🏼
Just did my 04 and it worked perfectly!!! The tool is $30 and they would have to order it and the service department wanted to charge 1hr. labor ($135). Had some old solid wire and did it myself. Thanks man!
J L, always glad to hear success stories!
Dude. This rocks! I just followed along as you were doing it and, 💥, the lights are off. This is awesome. The dealership I called said they were going to charge me $160. The other one I called said $140. This cost me about 20 minutes to build my wiring contraption and to to make it all happen. Thanks, brother.
I did it with paper clips worked perfectly
This guy is awesome..thanks so much ,best video ever..God Bless.
Thank you so much for this post. I will be trying it on my 04’ also in addition, was the check engine light on as well ?
Very interesting video. Thanks for posting it. Any idea if this procedure would work on an 03 Highlander
Thank you!!! Out of the 5 different videos, yours made the most sense 👍
Thanks for the vid. The print out showing where to place the terminals helped out!
Thank you for your video. I will definitely try this. I got this light on my 4runner 04 for 3 weeks now. will make those wires now.
Thanks man, very helpful! I'm gonna try this tomorrow! Very in depth description, great job!
Awesome video. My check engine light on my 04 came on because of a bad gas cap. I was able to clear the check engine light but not the vsc lights. This video you did was spot on. thanks for taking the time to help out others.
Mark Lucero, your welcome it is always good to hear success stories as a result of the video!
Thankyou so much, I fixed my friend 2004 4Runner.
Thank you brother! Solved my trac problem!
almost 2020, and you are still saving lives. Or at least money for us. Thanks for this Video
Maria Espino, your welcome. I am glad it was helpful.
Worked perfect for me. This guy is a true hero 🙌🏼
Thank you very much, nothing I tried before helped me until I got to this video, God bless you
Followed the steps listed, worked perfect! Thanks for sharing.
Great resource. I had my VSC light turn on from plugging in a newer scanner. The fix worked great, spare peice of wire worked and took less than 5 min. Thank you
Awesome! Always glad to hear success stories.
You are a hero man. Thank you for taking time to show us to what could have cost us arm and leg going to the mechanic.
Jesus Christ loves us unconditionally+eternally! He cares for us so much that He sacrificed Himself on the cross for our sins!God is so good!💗✝️
Great detailed video, you just saved me a bunch of money. Thank you
Great presentation, best video of all the VSC TRAC/TRAC OFF issue. Thanks
Thank you for the detailed instructions. Anyway you can paste those instructions in text form here on your comments section. I'll follow this. I tried a brand new OEM gas cap for my 2005 Toyota TRD 4Runner and that didn't fix my engine light VSC Track and VSC OFF lights being on. Purchasing a new OEM cap didn't work for me. Now i'll try this new method here. Thanks again for the content.
Where do you find the right connection pins for that 2005 4runner? I too own one tho
Keep up the good work! Thank AGAIN! Have a blessed life!! Hasta Pronto!
Worked great for me awesome instructions!
Thank you!! It worked flawlessly.
Dude, thanks so much for this instructive and EFFECTIVE video.
Thank you very much!! Very well explained video!! Keep up the good work!
Did it today!! worked great even the tool I made per your direction. Lights are off on my 2003 4Runner. Efin A!!
Thanks 🙏 so much brother for teaching us your knowledge you are so smart
Great video. Saved me so much time and money. Thank you.
Fully disconnecting both battery terminals for awhile worked for me
Awesome!!! It worked...no more VSC lights
This worked PERFECT. Thanks for the fix. Tool five minutes.
Worked like a charm!!! Thanks for posting the video!!
Definitely just helped me right now. Think my obd scanner tripped the ecu. I run the torque app and usually power it up before I start driving but yesterday, I powered it up while I was driving and noticed the vsc and abs lights going off. Read somewhere it could be the obd scanner so I removed it (it's a bluetooth version) and then the abs light went away with only solid VSC lights. Did what you explained in the video and now it's gone. Huge help! Thanks
Chris Bartolo, yes the obd scanners can trip the code due to a software change in some models. This is a quick easy fix! Glad to hear of your success
Worked like a charm with two paper clips (small) to reset the VSC lights on my 2004 Toyota 4runner SR5 4x4. The lights have been on for about 3 years. THAAAAAANK YOU!
you just use two paper clips?
Worked perfect! Thank you brother!
The most best explain video I have seen thanks a lot
noe mtz, awesome thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks for the vid! Where can I get a copy of the instructions that you're referring to?
Youre a champ, thank you putting up this tutorial, definitely helped me out
Very, very helpful. Followed the steps, and worked exactly as described. Thank you!
Glad this was helpful. Always glad to hear success stories!
