Hey! Guess what. You're Awesome and thanks for watching. I promise this is the best DND tutorial based on a 30 year old Jeff Foxworthy joke you'll ever see. Stick around for more and vote in the comments for which subclass you'd like to next.
If I'm being honest I think I love this subclass just because I love Dwarves so much.

  • In a campaign I did with some buddies a while back the DM threw at us a custom monster that could basically lock someone in place just by looking at them thanks to their steel eyes. Our bard then proceeded to use heat metal on the monster’s eyes.

  • I think the time limit may be only if unused? Like a despawn rate when left untouched. The way it's worded implies you can use it but if it isn't used or there is leftover materials, the unused and leftover material disappears. But if it has been worked into a complete shape then jt wont disappear even after the time limit expires.

      @kennethmana3103@kennethmana31035 ай бұрын
    • Nope. It's a straight up time limit. And it's been that way since the beginning. Creation was a shadow spell, allowing illusionists (a separate class back) to make things temporarily from shadows, hence why they made a time limit. Like the 5e illusionist subclass feature Illusory Reality, when you solidify an illusion, it's never permanent. And Creation is still an illusion spell in 5e. We think of it as a conjuration spell, conjuring stuff from nothing, but it's really an illusion spell and probably shouldn't be a part of the forge cleric's domain spells. (Since forge is more about crafting than using illusions). Honestly it's not that bad if they would put the word temporarily in Creation's spell description. Making a mitral coat or adamantine sword for a minute would be cool. It's the expectations that Creation is like Fabricate only better. And it's not.

    • Creation is not actually for making RAW materials you then turn into things. It's for making THE THINGS. The time limit is regarding the components OF said thing. Nothing created by the spell is permanent, full stop. However, you're not limited to just creating a block of stone or a bar of gold. You can create an adamantine warhammer with gold trimming, a fine wooden haft, and a diamond spike just for lols. However, the hammer will disappear after one minute if you use Adamantine. Use for example steel instead, and it'll last 10 minutes due to the diamond, however once the time is up it'll vanish. Nowhere in the spell does it say the material you create has hitpoints or anything, if you make Adamantine it will have ALL the properties of Adamantine, so an Adamantine shield while only lasting one minute will still give you.... Uhm...... *Shouts into distance* Hey why isn't there an Adamantine Shield item in the game? Alright, so if you make a MITHRIL sword it will have all the properties of a Mithril sword, cause apparently the ONLY use for Adamantine is as armor. Anyway, this means you can create pretty much anything that fits in a 5 foot cube, which is pretty big. Assuming you have a sample of the material you're going to make, as specified in the components. So if you want a mithril sword, you need at least a bit of mithril to start with. No, you can't bypass this with a focus, that's not how those work. Since the item you make is a fully functional item, not just a cheap copy, it means you could for example conjure enough rope to fill a 5 foot cube, and you'd have all that rope which you could cut and use as you please for a full 24 hours. The spell specifies PRECIOUS metals stick around for an hour, so I'm going to say stuff like iron or steel are in the stone category (The spell specifically mentions stuff like iron alongside stone as well), so adding some iron hooks to your rope will only knock it down to 12 hours. If you want to be cheeky, this spell says you must create a singular object, it can be composed of various materials and components, but it needs to qualify as one thing, so making a stack of steel plates is a no go. HOWEVER, someone with the Fabricate spell could easily turn that block of steel into plates. More useful probably would be making like a billion ball bearings for some wacky plan involving a scooby doo esque trap, against a Tarrasque. Creation and Fabricate don't generally overlap because Creation can already directly make anything Fabricate could make, and if you make something out of Creation materials it'll disappear, but there are niche cases where combining them can give DMs a headache. Which is really half the fun of Illusion magic. With Programmable Illusion it would be effortless to create a ring that produces fancy lights and junk when you cast the Creation spell, so you could oh for example walk into the shop of a Jeweler and demonstrate your Ring of Endless Gems by "Conjuring" a solid diamond the size of your head and then offering to sell this ring to said jeweler while allowing him to inspect the diamond all he wants as for all intents and purposes it is a 100% real diamond. Once you've gotten a fat sack of coins in exchange for this ring which you're selling for money due to oh I dunno some noble found out you have it and is hunting you down so you need to get rid of it and this guy should make SURE he keeps it secret, you get the fuck outta there and 10 minutes later the diamond disappears and the ring just stops functioning. Of course, the entire time you were under the effects of a disguise self spell so if the Jeweler starts looking, he'll be looking for the wrong species entirely. Illusion magic is really underrated I think, I just never see people talking about how insanely powerful it is compared to spells like Fireball or even Sending honestly. Dream is a 5th level Illusion spell that while 2 levels higher than Sending lets you have a MUCH more extended conversation with someone as well as have limitless control over the dreamscape allowing you to recreate locations you've been in (Combine that shit with Keen Mind, think about it) create people of note, or just whatever else you wanna show them. That beats 25 words, doesn't it? Dream is a game changer when it comes to keeping a network of contacts around the world, which isn't easy to manage even once you get Teleport, but with this spell it's a piece of cake. So anyway, yeah this spell does NOT create permanent items. You cannot use Creation to make a block of GOLD and then turn that gold into like rings or something and sell them and not get chased by the guards an hour later. For reference, just creating a gigantic block of some material, is actually one of the specific effects of the WISH spell. Like people sometimes forget this, Wish has TWO types of effects. There's the do anything aspect, and then there's the "You can do this and your DM isn't allowed to fuck with you" list. This is a list of things Wish can do that your DM doesn't get to say anything about. This list includes casting any lower level spell basically for free, but it also includes outright creating permanent materials, like a cubic meter block of gold. Yes, given lots of time you can make a house out of Minecraft Gold Blocks and your DM isn't allowed to make the gold randomly explode or turn into a gold dragon after 10D8 days. They CAN drop a gold dragon ON your house, so do be careful of that.

  • Creation is one of my favorite spells. You don't make raw materials you make any basic object that you are familiar with. Yes it only lasts the stated time, but that's MORE then enough to be of use. Sleeping in the wild and want to piss off the other players? Make a 4 poster bed with silk sheets and fluffy pillows to sleep on while they sleep on the ground. Need some money quick? Make a literal wagon full of high end spices or silks and sell them at the market. Sure it will all vanish later, but you got paid. Or, combine it with Animate Object to make a giant solid steel knight statue to bring to life and solo the bandit camp. That's not even talking about casting it at higher levels. You add 5 more feet to that cube on all sides with each level. That's a MASSIVE increase in mass. Forget dropping your puny 5 foot cube of steel on someone's home, try a 25 by 25 foot solid gold d6 coming from the heavens as the Gods say you failed that Death Saving Throwing. The only limits here are your imagination and what your DM will let you get away with creating. Have fun.

I multiclassed him into Fighter (Eldritch Knight) to get the Weapon Bond ability. It makes for a nice combination; that plus his normal cleric spells, he's a ritual caster (all clerics are, of course), and he has a small amount of wizard power.

    • Sadly, it does not- the last line of the description of the Creation spell before the upcasting clause. I'd say if you used an object to create another - the object that was created can no longer be targeted (bit of a Ship of Theseus deal). That's just me, though. The other function is rather obvious to me, and that's to temporarily fool someone in a trade.

  • About the creation spell, the reason why the materials disappear. spell doesn't actually create the items. remember it's an illusion spell, so it uses basically shadows from the shadowfell to create a recreation of a specific material. The more expensive types of items are more difficult to create so the you can have them for less time. As for uses. this is not the most practical spell and it's uses are pretty niche. that's thing about illusion spells, they are only as useful as your creativity. i think the main intention is to make stuff that you need that you can't buy or have materials for. the main thing it has over other creation spells or abilities is that it can create more than one item so if you whole party needs something you can use it that way. good things that could work is clothes or armour insignias of a specific group. if you can cast it pre-combat (in like an ambush) you can create weapons that bypass the resistances for monsers, like silvered weapons for devils, but that's pretty niche, and by this time you have beter ways to make magical weapons or have found them by now, so if you dm is really stingy with magical weapons this could be an alternative. another you can do is scam people. make an valueble item, and you can convince them it's real and scam, provided you get the hell out of dodge, since the time is so limited. also money is not out of the question you can create a lot of gold, platinum coins, spend them and leave town before they discover the scam. There are sure other uses, but this is some stuff i could come up with.

  • I love the spell heat metal because it can make some caster really cocky when talking to more marital class that wear armor and if you are a marital class that wears armor and someone cast it on you and they are to close or cant run fast enough you can catch up to them and hug them so they take that same damage as you do and with most casters not having enough hp they run out of hp before you do.

  • I'm not familiar with crafting in pen and paper dnd but one good use for spending time creating things that dissappear soon enough if you are going the hyper-realistic route, is to create high level tools, IE; you are going to work on some homebrew metal trying to create a full plate that has a super high DC due to the homebrew material and the product itself being high grade? well having something like an adamantium hammer to work it up would help the DC check, if the creation of the full plate takes longer than the duration of the hammer you are creating then you might want help from a second forge cleric who creates and provides you the tools while you are working, this might sound redundant since you could just buy the tools, but that's probably the point, saving on some extremely expensive tools or something that you might not have access too or even be too underleveled to procure, also basically twinkling that production line.

  • a real nasty Combo with the Forge Cleric is casting Heat Metal on your own weapon ( especially after your immune to Fire) to get that extra spicy damage ( 2d6 maul + 2d8 divine + 11d8 9th level heat metal + 16 Mods + great weapon fighting) for an average of (let me calculate) 82 damage per round for a minute, and more if it's a critical. That's 820 damage in a minute.

  • My favorite thing about a forge cleric is RAW you have a great chance of 1v1ing an ancient red dragon because you have the most insane durability and plenty of spells to do damage.

  • Its kinda silly that after dwarves, mechanically the next best race I can think of for a forge cleric is a high elf, forge cleric doesnt get proficiency with d8 1 handed weapons by default, dwarves give battleaxe and warhammer, elf gives longsword, but high elves also get a wizard cantrip so you can add booming blade or green flame blade to your repetoire which will buff your melee attacks if you go the brawler route in playstyle. Alternatively I suppose you could multiclass into eldritch knight for that as well but thats a big can of worms.

  • while Creation seems like more of an out of combat spell at first glance, I think it's actually more of an in combat spell. With Creation, you can make swords and armor out of pure Adamantine or Mithral for 1 minute (60 turns), you can trap someone under a led or gold cube you drop on them for 10min (more effective at higher levels and you might be able to convince your DM to have this do damage and in turn do a lot of damage), you can put someone in a cage of steel to shut them down for a turn or two, ect. The possibilities are endless, as long as you have any material on you and have seen what your making then you can do it, and remember that the spell never says you can't make a bigger version of what you have seen so nothing is stopping you from dropping a 5ft long short sword on the bbeg.

    • The problem here is that the casting time is a minute, meaning that you are spending multiple actions on this spell if you do it in combat

  • Story time! Playing a Hill Dwarf Forge Cleric currently, lvl10, and we recently had a boss fight that showed off all the blessings of a Forge Cleric. 3 Elite/boss monsters that continuously buffed each other and spawned waves of minions. We were lucky enough to get a surprise round and I Banished one Elite out of the picture. Hell ya. Barbarian barreled into the nastier of the two remaining while kept the other one busy, bonking it with my warhammer and Spiritual Weapon. It got hairy at one point where I was surrounded on all sides, but 22 AC and Warcaster meant I barely took damage and when I did I was not dropping concentration. Oh I forgot to mention, my full plate armour was custom made in less than a day. How you ask? Spent the gold for all the materials and Fabricate spell it into non-magical plate. Used Artisan's Blessing and the cheapest +1 full plate you'll find without thieving it.

  • Creation is the most powerful damage spell in the game, technically. Teleport 100 miles above battlefield, wearing amulet of adaptation. Cast creation at 9th level for a cylinder of platinum 20 feet long by 5 feet in diameter, with a tapered tip. let it fall. extrapolating from the damage a handgun does from the players handbook and the energy imparted from a standard 9mm handgun, It deals 10 billion d10 Damage to whatever it collides with as it accelerates to the ground at mach 7, and is so fast nothing can get a reaction or saving throw against it. it impacts with the force greater than the smallest nuke, devastating the surrounding area with blast effect.
