  • The lid of the case would be a perfect place to put printed information like the item list or maybe a flowchart of each players turn, just need a couple of tabs in opposing corners to hold a cutout.

  • such an incredible build! I especially love that the low detail of the minis means that they can easily be reconfigured to different roles to make the game more expansive with the same parts. for example, the 1x1 walls could also be blocks to push. the hero can use their roll to push a block that can attack enemies but also change the board state. some rule changes that would also be interesting: - hero can attack without the sword, but it either costs 1hp to defeat the monster (remove from play) or the monster gets to respawn at their portal. the hero gets to choose with penalty to go with. attacking with the sword removes the monster like normal. - if a monster attacks the hero, they deal 1hp of damage and returns to the monster portal. the DM gets +1 move to use as they see fit. the DM can only attack once per monster for that turn though as to avoid stunlocking the hero

  • Mounting tiny bits of magnet on base of each piece + the magnetic board would make it a truly portable game (& would keep pieces from getting lost) Great creation though…one more idea use the same material and cut out pieces into random shapes to create Topo features (hills, mountains, buildings; etc

  • This is really cool. I love the pocket formfactor and the print-in-place box. It immediately reminded me of something from my youth in the 1980s; 'Flipsiders'. They were these pocket board games that looked like audio cassettes, but a tri-fold metal game board slid out of it, there were four magnetic game pieces in a compartment at the top, and a spring-loaded slider would spin the reels, which acted as your dice. It's a shame that nowadays something like this is rendered relatively superfluous by our ability to access digital games literally anywhere, even from our ever-present phones. 😕

  • Ooh. This is pretty cool. I haven't finished the whole video yet, but I'm getting ideas. What if you printed the board on clear plastic, then made up a bunch of drawings to put underneath the board? You could have one look like magma, another look like a forest, and so on, in order to aesthetically theme the dungeon. Just swap out the pictures whenever you want. I also think you could put a rules reference in the lid. Since I don't have a 3D printer I think I'm going to try this out with LEGO and cardboard.

    @jacobross6897@jacobross689710 ай бұрын
    • for the clear plastic it would be difficult to do with filament 3d printing , but with resin 3d printing and clear resin you could do it much easier as long as you do the proper post processing methods and apply a thin coat of the clear resin after the alcohol bath and then put the piece in a curing station to fully harden the piece, the clear resin on the outside of the piece that was printed with clear resin fills the minor imperfections, leaving you with a crystal clear surface.

A healer + a warrior or something, the healer cannot attack but may heal, or "inspire/light the way" for the hero giving extra movement. If within x tiles. Monsters only able to move if even or odd but hit for double damage. Ranged weaponry but can't be used in melee. Bleed/Poison/Fire Traps and moving walls! Predesigned dungeon layouts Floors/stairwells! Oh man this is such a cool little base to riff off of! I am absolutely loving it. Thank you so much for sharing!

    • Oh wow thank you, I released couple other heroes since (ranged spellcaster, swift spearwielder) with different attack range pattern. Kindly checkout my other vid for the latest update on Pocket Dungeon. 🙏🏽 I always imagine having only one hero per game, but definitely love your idea of an exploring party. And also this even or odd mechanic for monster movement.

      @pxlcdt@pxlcdt8 ай бұрын
    • My first thought was about predesigned dungeon layouts so you can play alone - someone surely will be able to write a tool to preconfigure all possible dungeon layouts with additional rules (like every tile has to be accessible, so no closed-off-areas, no hoarding of walls, etc.) that way you can print some layouts and select them by rolling the dice.

      @Suicoo@Suicoo2 ай бұрын
  • Love it. IDK how well it would print, but including a D8 and a D12 might help for proper randomization, especially for solo play. Alternately, some index cards with pre-generated dungeons with semi-randomized item positions in hard to reach places. Good for both first-time players and solo players looking to pull a scenario from somewhere.

    @synthgal1090@synthgal109010 ай бұрын
    • I know you posted this 8 months ago, but I think you can get a perfectly randomized game with a single d4, you just have to roll it a lot. For placing on the short coordinate, roll the d4, if you get 3 or 4, add 4 to your next roll. Then the next roll determines which coordinate you're placing on. Should give you an equal chance for any of the individual 8 locations. Same thing for the long side, just roll twice to determine how many to add, before rolling the final dice.

  • It's a very cool concept and nice that it's easy for anyone to print. In saying that i think one of the most important element to a boardgame is the tactile feel of it, and how fiddly it is. With pieces this small they're not going to feel very good to handle and so the experience of the game just from a physical standpoint is going to suffer alot. My suggestions are: -Make your dowels longer and thinner, at the moment they aren't deep enough to really hold the objects, and you have enough headroom for it. -Make the wall pieces about 1/2 the height of all of the other playing pieces, as you don't want to worry about bumping them while moving. -Print with resin. Apart from the case with the print in place pieces, the other pieces will feel infinitely better printed with resin, i've printed my board game with a resin printer and even the small pieces like dice have a lot of weight to them (everything full in-fill) and they have the feeling of mahjong tiles, clacky and sturdy.

  • Idea for an alternative gamemode: *Blind Hero* • Dungeon Master places Monsters randomly on the Dungeon (they have to be at least 2 tiles away from the Portal) • Monsters will only be able to move 1 tile, and only one can move per turn • The Hero *can't* see the board, and the DM has to explain: Which direction the Hero can go, which is the closest item, what is around them (Wall, Item or Border), the DM can't specify what Item it is until the Hero gets it • DM also has to warn when a Monster is at least 2 tiles close to the hero, and in which "direction" they're in • Direction will work like a Compass. North, South, West and East. I think for this gamemode the Player would have to hide de board using the game's case, so you would play it sideways, West is the direction where the Entrance is placed and East is the direction where the Portal is placed. Diagonals would be Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest.

  • Really cool idea! I think one way to adjust to make the game more engaging through set up would be to make it a collaborative thing; something like each player goes in turns to place one item, wall, monster, etc. with basic rules in place to disallow things like completely closed off items or such. You could even have a small set of cards, or maybe one of the dice, that tells you what kind of piece you get to place. How placement of things should be limited and what the ratio of placement of items could be would need some balancing via playtesting. You could also easily expand the game with more item variety and more different monsters, as well as perhaps hazards to place. This is great because it's not only really cool on its own but it feels like it would work as a great base for adding complexity as desired by the players!

Might I suggest using square pegs and holes instead? The game has players using orthogonal movement anyways, so round peg holes seem unneeded.

Any additional movement remaining is forgotten. * To slay a monster you must land precisely on it by using all of your movement from your dice roll and optionally any number of bonus moves from your slider. (Bonus moves are now also removed from your slider when used.) * Slaying a monster earns +1 HP or +1 Bonus Moves; player's choice.

  • Cool concept and many great suggestions in the comments. Just a random idea, to possibly give the game a little more depth in strategy, you could have the speed slider set at -1|0|+1|+2 then you could introduce traps pieces which have you lose speed. In order to trigger this (otherwise the hero player would be avoiding them 99% of the time) you could also introduce the "facing" action for the hero piece and relative to that a "push" dynamic for the mobs attack instead of the "return to base" approach. For the traps placement, other than placing them randomly at beginning, you could also have the mobs able to spend action to "move" o "lay" them.

Do experiment with the actions / modes / goals in the game. Currently it feels like there's little decision making for the players in the game: one rolls the dice and goes for the closest weapon/potion/monster. Give your players more dilemmas, some tactical tools to trick the opponent, less chance-more-skill. Also, maybe adding cooperative mode, different skills/tactics for monsters, different heroes, use the lid for something? Ah, this is amazing, the possibilities are endless. Wish you all the luck with this awesome project 👍

Same size as the interior space of the case with floor doles already integrated as the shelves. Have the hinges fold out towards the other side where the lid isn't and then you can leave the extra floor you don't wanna use in play folded on top of each other or have it full folded. This will allow even more game pieces (walls, tokens, etc) while also creating more variation in the maze design and goal destination. This being a starting position that starts you from top floor and have you maneuver down or from bottom floor to the upper . Also can allow extra movement potential , such as a portal piece that goes to a color coded sister piece.

  • I can imagine updates for this game already, with things like traps, long-armed monsters, spears and maybe even entire Psychic hero that can move items towards him or enemies away

  • you could add some ramdoness to items and weapons by adding two stacks of cards. when you pick a weapon piece you draw from the weapon deck, it may give you a powerful sword, or a cursed one. if you pick an item you draw from the item deck, maybe it is a healing item, maybe a trap for the monsters, maybe its a fruit

  • Great idea here. I think you could perfect this design and make Millions especially since D&D is selling the company and doesn't want to be physical game anymore.

  • your setup has 'infinite' variation.. for a quick/rush game, instead of an infinite variation board and a dozen+ pieces to place before playing, you could have several printed, double sided maps, allowing a playthrough of a handful ofpre-made dungeons,, perhaps using a different mechanic for difficulty such as starting area, or maybe only one or two pieces to be used as blockers or moving walls. but the pre printed double sided maps would make things much faster. instead of pegs, you'd move pieces like on a chess board. I know it's a 3d printed concept, but I'm just thinking from overall game design. I think a lot of possibilities here. good job. :-)

  • Just reading the comments from people posting their comments make the Pocket Dungeons more interesting. Like making the background clear and having a drawing printed paper with different landscapes on multiple papers of the same size but changed landscapes would be nice and also magnetic pieces so those small pieces won't get lost. Also making the landscapes give each individual monsters or characters special abilities or disabilities would be nice and adding an extra tile on the left side with maybe like rotating wall tiles that rotate with another dice. The possibilities are endless.
