With the release of 1.17 it's time to review our previous simple farms to make sure they still work. We'll check each one and I'll provide tips and tricks to get the most out of your builds. If you've built one of these before and it doesn't work, check this video for some help and double check you've built it correctly. All farms here were tested in 1.17.1.

  • Made your farms (villager-related) since your tutorials are easy to follow and come with game explanations I'm unfamiliar with. I've mostly watched Minecraft videos but actually playing Survival can be a bit overwhelming. Your tutorials help me so much! I'm having fun building them even if I'm scared of mobs.

  • One other comment on the wither skeleton farm. You can't replace the carpets on the spawning platform with pressure plates. The hitboxes of the pressure plates won't prevent magma cubes from spawning. So while pressure plates work every where else, don't use them on the spawning platform.

    @another_jt@another_jt2 жыл бұрын
    • The problem is that pressure plates don't even have a hitbox so only prevent spawn attempts directly on the block the pressure plate is. There are a few ways to replace carpets, a nice 1.17 trick is using moss carpet instead of regular carpet which is immune to fire. Any block that essentially inteferes with the hitbox of the magma cubes is a good replacement though :)

  • So happy to hear you are planning to re-start this series with some new farms. I just started a 1.17 SP world to get accustomed to the new features while waiting for the SMP server I play on to start a new 1.17 season, and I just started building these farms as a way to get up and running in the new world. It has been a blast. I modified your iron farm a bit and built it double the spawning platforms (12 villagers and two zombies), and I dropped the golems down out of range as fast as possible instead of burning them up above. It makes a pretty productive farm that way. A lot more than I need for a single player game. Thanks Logic. Can't wait to see the new stuff.

  • the villager breeder is pretty consistent. I made it stackable with several layers but it clogged the system with how good a single one performs. Need to do a slight adjust to send the villagers to a waiting room after they grow up. BUt so far it has been providing more then enough villagers to build trading hall, iron farm and crop farm. Hooked it up with a simples rail to send either to converter zone or send'em to some farm that doesn't require conversions. Thanks for all those small and efficient designs.

  • Very good video. When you are trying to kill something that's close to someone or something you want left alive (like in your trading hall), it's best to use an axe instead of a sword since the axe will only hit one target.

I built the villager breeder a week or so ago and have been having the issue with the babies falling down in the hole with the wall. if it happens to more than one, they'll eventually get stuck in the glass when they grow up. it's a pain. I'm glad I saw the fix, though. thank you, sir.

  • For Wither skeleton farm, on single player world turning render distance lowest really helps. You don't need to spawn proof 128 block radius instead do 32 (or bit more to be safe) block radius

  • Instead of removing the wall and adding a slab to the breeder, you can add blocks on all 4 sides of the wall that the wall can connect to.I had an issue with them falling through the gap and this fixed it for me. Also, I imagine that most times people have had this happen, such as with me it was because they let the water go further than in the vdei. IIRC the water in the video only goes 5-6 blocks but in mine I had it go the full 8 in my single player. I rebuilt it in my hardcore world the same as in the video and it worked perfectly.

  • For the iron golem farm, if u want to make both side spawn golem more frequently is to put a hopper clock on both of the piston in the zombie chamber, each time it close it keeps both side at a relax state and when it opens both sides will see it at the same time there by spawning golem on each side. It's not 100% always but you'll notice the difference.

  • When my zombie wasnʼt bouncing, it was because I hadnʼt gone straight out as instructed, but instead had turned a corner when getting it to follow me. That made it press right up against the edge of the block when it fell, instead of being closer to the center, which I think was the issue.

I didn't realize that I built the carrot side first on both farms so I figured something must be wrong with potatoes. Finally, I gave up and built a rail system underneath the potato side and that works great. I'll try the ice block next time. Derp

  • Golems get caught up on glass too, it's just not so common, I always make my iron farms with glass walls,and it does happen, but if you're ok waiting 10 seconds for the golem to step, he will dislodge himself easily. Otherwise, use fence post walls, they give enough space for the golems to never ever get stuck, they just look like crap, cause who wants to watch a farm working through fences

    • I had the same thing happen when I made mine longer. What I did was in a couple places in the path on top, I replaced one of the side blocks at foot level (for example, the one right above the piston) with a cauldron (which is both a job block, and is piston-movable) and used a sticky piston with a lever so I can move it flush with the wall, where the villager can path to it, and one block further out, where the villager can't path to it. And I put this in a few different places, maybe every 5-10ish stalls apart. Then when I need the villager to go farther than they would on their own, I make sure it's during work hours, and run back and forth switching the pistons on and off to stepwise get the villager close enough to notice the workstation I actually want them to go to in the hall below. It's a little annoying, and at some point I want to figure out a good way to hook it up with some redstone to do it automatically so I don't have to run back and forth, but it works, and I was able to make the hall long enough for a librarian with each tradable enchanting book (not counting the trident ones or the curses, but that's still a lot)

  • Have the beds in the same chunk as the breeding pair. If not you can also get “angry particles”

  • For the carrot/potato farm, are the trap doors necessary? I haven't run the farm that long to know, but I removed them and everything has been working. I want to stack these up on top of each other and have a central water stream pick the items up, and those trap doors would be in the way. EDIT: The trap doors are only necessary for keeping a villager in place after removing the minecart (the villager will stay centered after taking out the trapdoors unless somehow nudged). As for the central water stream idea, it won't work out because when the potatoes hit the fence and fall down past the next villager, they get taken and breaks the whole farm. Big sad face :(
