Jessica Hook 2018 Duskin 3Gun

READ: There is no accidental discharge at 8:45, my finger is completely off the trigger, and there is no shell casing ejected from the rifle, because the rifle did not fire... it's science. There is some glitch in the video that looks like a flash or reflection of light--- some people are mistaking it for a muzzle flash, but it's just a glitch. Read the first sentence again.
Another challenging 3Gun match is in the books! Duskin 3Gun at Fort Bragg was some serious work! This match was scored “time plus” i.e. your raw time, plus time added for penalties and poor marksmanship on paper (aka points down). An A-zone hit was zero time added, a C-zone hit was .5 second added, and a D-zone hit was 1.5 seconds added. Also, leaving any grease ring whatsoever on the edge of a no-shoot (white paper) even if you didn’t break the perf was considered a full penalty. So accuracy mattered! At most 3Gun matches you can hose 2 shots anywhere on paper, but here, getting all A’s is crucial so I had to aim harder and go a little slower than I would have under a different scoring system. Things to work on for next year: building my upper body strength to improve my spider monkey skill set, and HIIT (High-intensity interval training) to increase my stamina & strength, as each stage was about 1-2.5 minutes long and I was gassing out intermittently. I finished 49th out of 171 people in the Tac Ops division at 67% of division winner, but there was no Lady category at this match so it’s unclear how many women shot it. This was a match unlike any other with a majority of the shooters being active duty military. Please check out the Duskin and Stephens Foundation to see the good work they do in the Special Operations Community. The Duskin 3Gun match honors the life and passion for competitive shooting of “Big Mike” Duskin, killed in action on 23 October 2012. The foundation supports the families of fallen members of Special Operations Forces, and provides scholarship to children of active duty personnel in several SOF communities. I can’t thank the RO’s enough for using their vacation time to work the match!!! Thank you to my sponsors Taran Tactical Innovations, EOTech, Blade-Tech, & 5.11 Tactical. #tti #tarantactical #eotech #eotechvudu #bladetech #511tactical #duskin3gun #duskin #3gun #multigun #jhookshot #trainlikeagirl #gungirl #glockgirl

  • The flash is actually a lens flare from the scope on the rifle. The eyepiece is in direct sunlight and the rifle is pointed to the left far enough to refract sunlight onto the wall. Just like in all the old cowboy movies.

  • Ma'am, you are a good shot! Great job! Folks commenting have to catch a grip here and understand what they're watching. Marksmanship and the test of stamina therein through diverse combat scenarios (like dragging a load or walking a gauntlet off a raised platform-totally understand that). There is training for clearing buildings and engaging combatants while working in teams or squads, but that is not the test or competition here. A marksman, her weapons, the targets and adjusting to different conditions while shooting. Simple and fast moving. This was so interesting!!

    @marcocapolicchio7440@marcocapolicchio74403 жыл бұрын
  • Wow, that's quite a run. I would like to ask you a question that this video prompted though. I see a lot of 3-gun shooters encountering something like a stove pipe malfunction in their stages. It's a much higher rate of malfunction than I would normally expect, and given how important time is with such competitions, it's surprising to me that I see so many stoppages. Can you speak a little bit to your own approach to those stoppages at a process level? That is, what do you do after a match to address the issue? Do you do any work to analyze, diagnose, and prevent such stoppages in the future? If so, what sort of work goes into trying to reduce those stoppages?

    @arcfide@arcfide5 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Aaron, you generally see more stovepipes & malfunctions with 3-gunners or competitive shooters, because we generally reload our own ammo, and tinker with our guns, in the pursuit of soft/flat/low recoil shooting.... it's an experimental art form! :) Factory pistol ammo tends to run "hot" resulting in more recoil, which causes a longer delay for getting back on target for followup shots. I was shooting .40 minor (low recoil) out of a Glock 24 for the last 3 years, but I just got a customized TTI Combat Master Glock 17L, so I've been trying to create a 9mm load that works with this new pistol. Assessing the problem can be a process of elimination. For example, before I adjust the powder drop on my reloading machine, I'll try replacing the recoil spring in my Glock, to a lighter spring. This might fix the issue I was having with stovepipes. If it does not fix the issue, I'll try increasing the powder drop by adding .10 (a tenth) of a grain of powder to my recipe. For example, I'll increase my powder drop from 2.9 up to 3 grains. Once I find a winning combination, I stick to it. Nobody's ammo or guns will run perfectly 100% of the time, but we are all striving to be as competitive with our gear as possible. There is a net positive in "time saved" with all the customizations in ammo and guns, that outweighs the inevitable jams & malfunctions. Hope that gives you something to think about. Thanks for watching! :) ~Jess

      @JessicaHook@JessicaHook5 жыл бұрын
    • Jessica Hook I thought some of the stove pipes and or jams were set up. Like they set up that way when your changing weapons so you have to clear them.
