I joined the GMTK 2023 Game Jam to make a game about a spider being chased by a vacuum, and it did not go super well. Here's how the game was made, and how it evolved after the jam.

Blender,
Asperite,
Godot,
Photopea,
Paint,
Tux Paint,
Textures.com,
PureRef,
Freesound,
OpenGameArt,
Audacity
Music:

  • Honestly the game jam game not turning out well wasn’t your fault at all. 48 hour jams have always felt like a way to normalize crunch in a “fun” way and it’s the main reason I only join the ones that span a couple of days. I’m excited to try the game out! Mario Party DS was one if my favorite DS games growing up.

    • @@loogi_is_die in a way, that could be true, but it's also very short-sighted. The goal isn't to make the best game of all time, but rather to make something, learn from it, and have the next thing you make be even better. The ultimate intention is growth! :D

  • I like that you didn't compromise spider nature by decreasing number of eyes to make it more sympathetic and instead stylized actual eyes to achieve same effect

  • 9:00 People say you shouldn't make the game you want but make a smaller simpler version of it. What you did was make the absolute bare minimum, then when the game was done, you made it a little better, then a little longer, then again and again and again; eventually leading to what you originally wanted to make. Making the game you want is overwhelming but sometimes even a smaller version can be just as overwhelming; making the game at a bare minimum and then improving it is such a better way to look at projects and is something i wish i did when i started my project. I knew i couldnt make this open world game with a dozen biomes and creatures, so i settled on a small island with a couple biomes and animals in each. Looking back i should of made a single area with one biome and one animal, then slowly expand that. Instead i became overwhelmed and now rarely work on it, what you did during the gamejam week is what i do all the time; speaking of, i need to get back to work... eh maybe after a few more youtube videos.

  • I'm so impressed by this! You've definitely taken a leap in your game development abilities. Not only is it a typical LazyAlarm video (bug-themed characters, running out of time during development, aiming to replicate something then going off the rails with creative ideas), it's your best one yet! Super excited to see what comes next. :)

They would be more hunters trying to attack you. If you survive the time which is higher depended by the modes, easy mode, 250 seconds, medium mode, 500 seconds and hard mode, 1000 seconds if you survive that long you win but if the hunters shoot you you lose the game would be called (be hunted

So long as you get the smallest steps done, you're making progress. And you might not be lazy, I know from experience that this sounds a lot like adhd. But also look up quality of life improvements to your workflow like auto importing blender to godot and clicking the Mesh button in the top middle to add simplified collision
