One is the harsh law system, second is justice to labour and the third is the lack of equality where Western country citizens are privileged over Asians. It's like being liberal with loopholes.

Most of the victims in Middle East go silent in the fear of cruel Sharia law and the best part is that your government take pride in censoring the news and victims. This is the reason why people don't want to buy real estate in so called developed countries like UAE.

  • What a horrible place to be born a woman. I don't understand the attraction of Dubai to visitors from the West. How much shopping can a person do, and why there? Certainly I understand that there are lots of jobs for those coming from poorer nations. Those workers aren't living well and many are trapped there.

    @DSherman50@DSherman506 жыл бұрын
    • DSherman50 As grievous as the story about the Princess. How can you sit there at your home and say something like that about one of the best cities in the world? Every country has some sort of dark work and it compares nothing to the colonialisms and wars and racism happening in the 'white' countries which exists to this date. Go and live there and ask those 'poor' workers in Dubai and they would scram 'My Dubai' at the top of their lungs. Sure life is hard. So it is in any mojor metropolitan city. New york/london/tokyo/mumbai etc. Those poor workers that you call upon have had opportunities to become multi millionairs and most of them have built Mansions back home working in the UAE. Its not sad and deserted like its shown in hypocritical biased western media. I don't know wht this happened and why was the Princess prosecuted. Probably a rebel against the wishes of her father's rule for certain issues. But all in all Dubai provides one of the safest, luxurious, most convenient lifestyles in the world that most of these other bigger countries only dream about.

    • Murtaza Ali Lehri I stand by my initial statement, not a good place to be born female. But that is true throughout the Middle East as women are still treated as chattel. Dubai is a playground for the very rich. Leaving Israel out of the equation, if I was extremely wealthy and had to live in that area of the world, I would certainly choose the UAE as I've always felt it more progressive there. I was born in Los Angeles and continue to live in the LA/OC Metro area. There are a good deal of extremely wealthy people in this area and they need only go to Rodeo Drive or Fashion Island. Frankly, the climate is better here, though I admit ac is a must now, even when living at the beach. The weather patterns have indeed changed in the past 50 years. I know the whole world is judging us because of the ignorant, foolish blowhard now in the White House. However, he did not get there fair and square. He had help from Russia, and perhaps other countries as well. Trump was a failure in business and has great difficulty forming a sentence, never mind expressing a thought. He is a compulsive liar and lost the popular vote by nearly three million. Here in California, we want nothing to do with him. I don't deny that his base is made up of white racists and the way Hillary Clinton was treated when interviewed, by Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer, was shameful. There was a bias against Hillary Clinton, because she is female. I watched as they were dismissive of her. She was interrupted in a way I've never seen a man encounter. (Fortunately, their secrets regarding how they treated women with whom they worked got out, and they were promptly fired and dropped out of sight in shame.) My point is that white men are rapidly losing their privilege in the United States. Needless to say they aren't going quietly. They are hating on women and people of color. Further, they are supporting Trump, as are the Fundamentalist Christians. So, we have our unique share of problems in the United States. But, as a female, I believe I was born in an easier place. I'm able to be unencumbered by a man and nobody cares.

    • DSherman50 Nobody is talking about gender here and probably rest of the world do not really see being clueless about existence, having hardly any moral values and build them up as you go and as you like and being used and portrayed only as a symbol of sex a something liberating. The worse thing is that people in the west think and live as though men throughout the world got everything put to them in Golden plates and this world was built solely by women for Men on Emerald thrones. There are 8 billion people in the world and every culture and faith is diverse and people find perse and see meaning in freedom way differently. One peculiar thing which has never gone out of existence from White colonial time (which included majority of white elite women as well, women aren't born angels) that they think their culture, their rule, their language, their belief system, their ideologies are always perfect and rest are trash. This is evident from your statement of Israhell, one of the most inhumane, two faced, evil forms of apartheid occupations after Hitler. Regardless i see you're completely into a white utopia, oblivious of the 'rest of the wold' and a fake sense of freedom that USA have built. Sure, I do admire the freedoms in many parts of the western world but then there is a limit to everything. Drugs are good to cure an illness but an overdose is fatal. Extremism both sides either Nationalism, Religious Fanatism or extreme form of anarchist freedoms are dangerous to the fabric of human civilisations. And please, it hasn't started with Trump in house. Hilary wasn't any pure hearted if she was a female. JUST being woman gives nobody a free pass in a just society and many middle eastern nations put men AN & women on equal jurisdictions. Men suffer too, its just that throughout history men were either silent bearers or loud aggressors and women were either silent killers or loud speakers to get what they wanted from men. Do not pretend that today women can't just scream rape there and destroy lives of innocent hard working family men and boys. Talking about fine hypocrisy from the west. My point being not all places are absolutely clean of errors. We are all human beings after all and this earth is a place of errors. If you're an Atheist you will brush it aside. If religious you'd know this that everything that happens on earth never remains consistent. Empire have risen and fallen and governments came and went. Its only basic human values, codes of conduct and modesty that's held 90% of the world going. Rest is history.

    • Murtaza Ali Lehri "Nobody is talking about gender here." Really? The first sentence in my first comment stated what a miserable place to be born female. You are talking out if your ass and you don't seem to know that or perhaps you just don't care. "My Dubai!" BULLSHIT. "Most build mansions back home." BULLSHIT! The UAE may be more progressive than it's immediate neighbors, but that hardly garners much credit. I'd not step foot in the Middle East for many reasons, and ignorant men like you think they are to be obeyed, and they are kind benefactors to the poor who are forced to work in deplorable conditions and are all too often trapped in your country. And, you can shove all your talk of morals up your ass! You say, maybe the princess rebelled against her father so a death sentence.... What about the morals of a country who would dare meddle in our presidential election because there was a crook running and you knew he was for sale. Do us all a favor and stay on your tiny patch of endless desert. Maybe try to build a university so you can educate your population instead of building more malls and hotels. Your sheer ignorance is wanton and deplorable, so fuck you!

      @DSherman50@DSherman506 жыл бұрын
    • Murtaza Ali Lehri What are you, 20 years old or something like that? Your mind appears to simply roam and a sentence or two later you're headed elsewhere without any foundation for what you are hoping to express. You need to write your stream of contradictions private. I pity the females in your life when your culture requires that a man is to be put above a woman and women must respect and obey men, for he was born male. I don't see Dubai as a "great city". The older, original parts of the city are way more interesting then the flashy, over the top new buildings seeking conspicuous consumers needing ever more luxury. The pampering is over the top. I will admit the 20 year marketing campaign has worked. Of course big celebrities are going to show up for a comped stay and photo op. I don't believe it is what the world wants or needs. 10% of the population is native to the UAE. People from all over the world come to make money

    • Neeraj Ahire Yes, true. But a ruler has to be more careful. His reputation, his concern for her values and morals, etc. Muslim children normally abide by their Islamic values but Latifa grew up with free-thinking Western people who changed her way of thinking. Latifa lived a life of luxury. She had a title, palace, servants, chauffeur, etc. She had everything she wanted. Even the freedom to learn skills, to go wherever she wanted, free lessons in luxury sports, a lovely family life, etc. Many would exchange their lives to be in her place.

  • Latifa's video was released WEEKS ago and got *no* coverage by you. I mean, it's great that you are talking about this, but why did it take you _so long_ to talk about it and in a *night time* news format at that? This should have been a headline every day since the video was released. She was tortured for a *long* time by this guy and his men to keep her mouth shut. "But no, we get his oil, we need to put as little focus on that as possible." _Edit:_ I mistakingly said "Saudi-Arabia" when in actuality it was the "UAE"- If this was Putin's daughter, you wouldn't have talked about anything else since. Luckily Russia is *much* farther ahead than _them_ when it comes to human rights, so something like this would never happen there. One day _(Saudi-Arabia)_ the UAE might become a democratic country with equality for men and women (and everyone in between) that respects human rights, but sadly that is not exactly the case today, it seems.

Or she may have been wrapped in a weighted bag and drowned in one of the family pools,then buried in an unmarked grave in one of the wilderness areas of her country. Honor killings of "females"are overlooked. not even seen as a crime.Staggeringly inhumane.

    • Leonora Smith You’re such an stereotypical person arent you? Because of dubai your going to label all muslim countries same? Not all are like this. These arabs (some) have extreme cultural stance on things (like stone age) nothing islamic but pre islamic arab mentality type. Muslim majority countries Indonesia, Malaysia, free women drive and what not, Bangladesh has woman in charge, etc. You make it sound like as if women have no rights nor can do nothing in Muslim countries. Yes theres backward mentality and trust me if you knew islam well, you’d see even one of the greatest woman in islam went to war with another great man over a confusion and twisted plot by some ex jews who became muslims, that’s another story. But that shows women in islam have had power and led, and went out to battles, to support, to make change and not be force to stay in kitchen and be this girly girly which some of these arab nations today make it seem like. It’s not islamic, islam gives rights with proper meaning but unfortunately some hold onto their own oldage culture and stuffs they’re known for.

Her older sister Shamsa al maktoup tried escaping in 2000 but was caught and since then she is drugged up and is with nurses 24/7. I don't even want to imagine what Latifa is going through right now because if she was tortured for 3 years when she was only 16, it is unbearable to think what they are doing to her right now. • Proof of life? Her family will see to it she never leaves the house or Dubai again. Held against her will clearly. It was a chilling documentary to watch.

  • Her father is sick! How come he imprison his daughters in cages?!! Not to mention that he has two daughters with the same name "Latifa" to distract people from knowing the truth. Latifa was or is still live in torment according to the French smuggler when he heard her saying she would rather die than return to her father. I HOPE she is fine

  • ok.. a few things I noticed. 1. Why has it's took the BBC this long to cover this story? 2. At no point do they bring up the reasons for WHY she tried to flee Dubai in the first place... 3. Not once do they address the information Latifa brought up in the video about her father.. 4. Why end the story focused on the Ex French Spy, & how he was gonna get paid for helping her... This whole video segment to me is just a perfect example as to why you should NEVER listen to mainstream media!
